  1. Fred. No fancy schmancy geo-this, or circulo-that. Just... Fred.
  2. * * * * * * * Heeeeeere it coooooomes... LIVE from the YemonYime Studios on the pulse-pounding perimeter of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It's a fantastic fun-filled frolic for your forum friends... iiiiiiit's... * * * * * * * The Fabulous Forum Photo Challenge! * * * * * * * With exciting prizes, like a wet noodly snuggling from the Flying Spaghetti Monsterrrrrr! ---> screams and applause <--- Or a luxurious, whirlwind vacation, all-expenses-paid, to anywhere on Earthaaaaa! ---> applause and screams <--- And now, for your host...YemonnnnYiiiiiiiiiiiimee ---> crickets <--- * * * * * * * Okay, enough with the glam and cheese...let's get to what this is all about. As some may know, I recently participated in a scavenger hunt at work, and had some major help from the fine folks of this Geocoin Forum. So I thought, what better way to show my appreciation than to conduct a few little "scavenger hunts" of my own, and award some prizes! But since I really don't feel like sifting through boxes of the crap you might send me as judge, this will be a series of Photo Challenge cointests! The rules are simple, but the challenges themselves might not be. So, here's how it works: The Challenges: At random times in this thread, I may issue a Photo Challenge that will list specific items, actions and/or requirements that must be included in a picture, and posted in this thread. The first person to post a photo that includes all of the necessary elements of that particular challenge will be the winner. The things I list could be anything, but all photos will be required to include a team member, and a geocoin in some way or another. For example, I might ask for a photo with... You, trying to put a geocoin in an expired parking meter, wearing a fake mustache and a sombrero. Or I could get really weird and ask for a photo of... A male team member holding a geocoin and a hockey stick, wearing a red dress, while riding a llama. Yeah, it could get pretty silly. And embarrassing. But it kinda brings the " " commercials into perspective, now doesn't it? The Rules: 1. The cointest is open to the primary accounts of all Geocoin Forum visitors that have accounts created before June of 2010. Sorry if this excludes you, butcha shoulda found us sooner! In other words...no aliases, sock puppets, or mysterious newbies. 2. The cointest requires your original photography. In other words...no internet or stock images, and no photoshopping in any way, except for cropping. 3. Any photo submitting post that is edited for any reason is automatically disqualified. I can't allow any exceptions to this rule, because it's intended to prevent any possibility of image substitution. (Trust me, I've seen it done.) Entrants may repost a photo in a new post, which will have a new timestamp. 4. The basic requirement for all photos is to clearly show a geocoin and a team member's face, unless otherwise specified in the challenge. Only immediate team members of the GC ID profile that posts the photo are eligible subjects. In other words...don't call Uncle Jerry from Yakima and have him e-mail you a blurry pic of himself in Aunt Betty's red dress, holding up a Sacajawea Dollar and a broom while riding the llama he does actually own. Grab a hockey stick, go to Yakima, put on the dress, hop on the llama with a proper geocoin, and have Uncle Jerry take the pic of YOU!!! I will split hairs on questionable photos. 5. The cointest winner will be the first person to successfully post a photo that meets all of the specific requirements of the challenge issued. The determining time factor will be the timestamp of the post in this thread. There will be no judging or voting. It's a race to be the first to post a photo that qualifies. 6. There is no Rule #6. (as per Monty Python) 7. Participants accept that all challenges, judgments and/or final results are entirely at my discretion. In other words...My game, my rules. No whining, or sour puss buzzkillers in this thread. We're tryin' to have fun here, so if you're all grumpy...off ya go! 8. Standard Disclaimer: Participants assume ALL responsibilities for their actions. Neither myself, nor employees or affiliates of Groundspeak are in any way responsible for problems and/or costs that may incur as a result of your participation in this cointest. Don't get yourself in trouble, and don't spend a wad of cash. So, there ya have it! It's a long read I know, but hopefully you'll have some great fun either reading about, or participating in these challenges. My intention is to spark some giggles when we see a picture of these funny challenges! Hrm, what am I forgetting here... Oh yeah! The Prize: The prize I offer for each challenge will vary. Perhaps even others may wish to add to the booty, which might sweeten the pot enough to increase the "ridiculosity" of the challenge requirements! We'll see how this goes as we go along. But for now, the winner of Photo Challenge I will receive one of my personal variants of the 2009 Compass Rose Geocoin™. The prize for Photo Challenge I * * * * * * * Photo Challenge I will begin sometime within one week! (Since I've gotta give you all enough time to read the novel above) Stay Tuned!!! * * * * * * *
  3. Ernie, I love this, and have a really, really interesting idea for you. Check your email?
  4. Yeah, the monkey had a pair of briefs! I'm guessing there might have been "technical issues" with the taxidermy? Me, big ruffled handmade Amish bloomers.
  5. 500 points - "Picture of a team member holding a real monkey." Well, here's me and my REAL monkey! The rules didn't specify it had to be a "live" monkey, but this pic still sparked a controversy I've affectionately referred to as...Monkeygate! (Before someone says it...I'm the one on the left) He's a Chacma Baboon. He was apparently taken on safari in South Africa in the late 80's by one of the owners of a local gun barrel manufacturer. Yes, it's true that my wife spotted him in the corner of their front window, but they don't actually have an active store front. It's empty except for a few more trophy kills on display. So, since I had to be "holding" him, I managed to make contact with one of the owner's friends, and he let me in to take the picture!
  6. We've been out of town this past weekend for a wedding, but I got the news that...I won the Scavenger Hunt!!! WHOOO HOOOO!!! Special thanks to everyone who participated in this thread. Your enthusiasm was awesome, and gave me the idea to create an upcoming photo scavenger hunt thread for the forums. Stay tuned for that! HUMUNGOUS THANKS to the folks with whom I had contact and made arrangements to send items for the hunt. Couldn't have done it without you, because it took every item on the list to win it! Keep an eye out in the mail for some "Thank You's". And as promised, one random poster from this thread will also receive a special gift, and by the awesome power of randomness, I hereby clicketh the randomizer... Post #3... wolfslady is the winner! Congratulations wolfslady, keep an eye on your mailbox. I have an idea for something you might like. So, that closes out this particular hunt. I still have no idea what I may have won, but it was honestly about playing the game for me. I have to tell you all a neat story though... In the process of searching through my parents' attic for my old post-college job rejection letters, I came across something wonderful. In a very old album of family pictures and whatnots, I found a type-written letter from my grandfather to my grandmother...dated July 19, 1919! It was a letter home from the time he re-enlisted in the US Army, and was stuck in France just after the armistace was signed for World War I! This was an amazing experience for me, because I never met him. Just goes to prove, you never know what you might find! Thanks again everyone, and stay tuned for The Forum Photo Hunt!
  7. I would LOVE to have an excuse to visit Europe!
  8. Still taking offers Communication established through complicated, yet instantaneous digital technology. (It just sounds more interesting that "e-mail sent")
  9. VIVA ITALIA!!! This American mutt has plenty of "Napolitan" heritage, so this is awesome! Wait...in fact, I'm getting a vision...from the FUTURE!!! Okay, so maybe it's really from the last World Cup, but I like their chances to repeat!!!
  10. I like it too, but I think you'll need to expand on the overall theme of "Geocaching Rocks!" instead of simply using one clip art image. Don't get me wrong, it's right up my alley with regards to the iconery and symbology. But I'd like to see some clever elements included that would tie this into geocaching. Heh, I can see the back of the coin... "IC/GC" logo. Ammo boxes for amps. Angus Young in hiking boots.
  11. May I please have #21 again? Thanks for another chance at a winner! ETA: Oops, forgot to add that I'm from Yimerica.
  12. Quick update! Our Scavenger Hunt deadline for turning in items has now passed, so it's wait and see to find out who the winner will be! The judge will be going through all submissions sometime this week, and I'm happy to report that I managed to turn in something for each item listed! I had to get creative with a few items, but regardless of the outcome, I had a blast doing one of these again. After countless trips to family attics and basements, a neighbor's garage, a flea market, and even a gun shop, I've done enough seeking to earn a couple dozen smilies! To everyone who sent items, I sincerely appreciate your enthusiasm! I couldn't have done it without your help! After an exhausting week of things going on around the house, I'll now have some free time to get some things off in the mail. Thanks again, and I'll report on the results as soon as I hear!
  13. Yeah! This is one of the better examples of a well done 3D profile. For obvious reasons, it's easier for the sculptor to achieve an attractive 3D profile, rather than a head-on face with the limited thickness involved. But there have been a few head-on sculpts that were above average.
  14. You're right, there are no rules or obligations because that's just the way of the world. But if you're the kind that tends to sell off your "gifts"...you'll probably see less "gifts" in the future. That's just the way of the world.
  15. Oh wait...it gets better! INTRUDER ALERT, INTRUDER ALERT!!! We have spies in our midst! My field agents have recently ascertained that a splinter cell of non-geocaching competitors (aka: nebnoses*) have infiltrated this site to gather vital information about my progress! It appears they are using cutting edge stalking equipment (Google) to uncover my resourceful methods. But hold on...the BEST part of it is that apparently some folks are giving up the scavenger hunt because they've heard the rumors about all the stuff crossed out here! I suppose this would be a good time to tell all of you clever GeoCachers (+1DFRE) that this was all a ruse designed to throw them off, and that I don't have all of the items I crossed out! To quote the A-Team's Hannibal: "I love it when a plan comes together!" Okay, so now I will now bask in the satisfaction of pulling off perhaps the most brilliant defensive maneuver since the "wall of porcupine spears" in Braveheart! To mangle up an old football saying: there's no offense, like a good defense. The more of them that quit, the better my chances are! Oh, and hey...here's a little somethin' for the stalkers! -----> Neener, Neener! RUN, suckers, RUN! Now, switching back to stealth mode...
  16. ummmmm...no pink elephant dicussion... Who knows, maybe there's a Pink Elephant XXLE Tranquility coin out there somewhere...
  17. Jim, I appreciate the PM, but I'm not inclined to keep my opinions private about this recent occurrence. As someone who enjoys the general light-hearted nature of this forum, I don't enjoy seeing it get shredded with audacious threats, regardless of their subsequent retraction. As was just shown, you specifically wrote: "For ALL to heed:" and "ANYONE attempting to sell..." Even if you were only being emotional, the emphasis implied by the all-caps is undeniable. Hard to defend that you didn't intend that to begin with. Regardless, you indeed have no legal rights to block any consumer resale of Tranquility coins by a general "first-sale" application of the law. With regards to your intellectual property rights for the Tranquility coins, nobody here besides you, CinemaBoxers and CastleMan knows exactly what was said or agreed upon. Your back and forth accusations in these forums does nothing but effect your reputations in the court of public opinion. If one of you wants to be officially declared "correct", then it's up to the three of you to duke it out in a real court. I can imagine that you're all frustrated with this situation, as well as others that have occurred over the past few years. But to be perfectly blunt, my particular observation is that these issues are too often brought upon yourselves by your own actions. It's just become exhausting to watch so much drama surrounding the same sources played out repeatedly in this forum. And now that this ongoing situation has introduced open threats of legal action against forum readers, yes...people are easily being alienated. Like RSG said, this may be one time when retractions, apologies and excuses won't help. It's flat-out getting old.
  18. With all due respect to Eartha, FSM, and to the people who make this forum possible...there's a big, pink elephant in the middle of the room, and it's relieving itself upon the citizens of this community. A Groundspeak approved vendor just came in here and threatened legal action against Groundspeak customers, (and even its own customers), over a product enabled with features that are specifically functional on a Groundspeak website. GC can't let that happen, as it sets a very dangerous precedent. How about instead of any further discussion here, I'll just say that I'll be contacting a Groundspeak representative to suggest that perhaps some "disapproval" is now in order?
  19. Thanks so much for the fun cointest, seekerfamily. After my Penguins were eliminated, I still got to enjoy watching San Jose advance. And now that the Sharks are dead in the water, having had their tails thrashed by the Hawks...I officially say GO HAWKS!!! Sorry Philly Phans, but that much orange is only good for hunting season here in Pennsylvania. B'sides, Da 'Burgh is still THE City of Champions, n'at!
  20. No problem at all. I've got quite a lot of junk from this hunt!
  21. Whoa, LJ! You rawk. Okay, a quick update that these are now confirmed in order to avoid having anyone double up. I'm on the road heading home, and will repost the list with changes within the hour. Thanks!!! So sorry Yime.... The spy vs. spy I got were the mad lib versions, not the original 1960 version that I believe you are looking for. I tried searching for it but came up empty handed. Sorry to let you down, but it needs to be unscratched from your list. : ( Keeping fingers crossed someone here will find one in their attic for you though Contacted you privately, but just in case you didn't see that while you were in EUROPE... *jealous*...these are fine! Thanks!
  22. Yeah, stuff got crossed off real quick here! But I'll contact you about something else soon. Thanks!
  23. THAT'S the one! You're killin' me with how much stuff you've come up with!
  24. These are really cool! I'm gonna pick one up because the week of our DisneyWorld vacation includes one of the final scheduled shuttle launches. We're hoping we'll be able to see it!
  25. edited to add the 8" floppy disc, and a purple birthday candle are also in the box, just in case. Neal, you absolutely rawk! I got your package today! Thanks! I'll be in touch with ya soon!
