  1. I have not read all this thread but i would like to say I am a scout leader and I have taken not only my troop but our cub pack and beaver colony out caching quite a few times. All sections seem to love it. I decided last year to hide a few for the group (all under my name as I haven't set up a group account yet) and so far so good. I think geocaching adds a new spin on traditional mapping ( which we still do and often plot where the cache was on an OS map) Please see links for our group caches. 2. Excuse my ignorance but what are "Chirps".
  3. I use the colorado and I love it. I too thought about the touch screen but decided I couldn't justify the extra money. Also I think the colorado wins hands down on looks. I love the stubby ariel and the wheel, I think it makes it look a lot more robust. I do find it a bit fiddly sometimes on multis but I wouldn't go for the oregon just for the touch screen. It would probably be a lot more awkward to use with gloves as well.
  4. Really like this one. As most of the time I search on an OS map before going out for a days caching.
  5. Although my own caches may not have the greatest names, I do spend quite some time thinking of them. After doing just this today it got me thinking of some of the caches with great names I have visited, like NCR - Polymer on Ferrous via flux near old Ceramic, Under Neon Loneliness, Motorcycle Emptiness and Angels and Donkeys these a a few of my favorites. This then got me on to wondering what other great cache names are about, so over to you all. What is the best name for a cache you have come across.
  6. Right time to announce the winner, sorry for the delay I have been quite busy this weekend. ivanidea - I really love the action in this shot and I also love the angle it was taken at the only critisim I would have is that it could do with being a little punchier and a bit more detail in the Jeep. Alibags - As everyone has mentioned this is an awesome shot and the focusing, exposure, depth of field and composition are perfect. murphyz - I really love the way HDR shots come out with dramatic skies and vibrant colours, and although this is a great image for me I like to see a little less after processing in this type of competition (I know this wasn't stipulated in the rules but like I said that just me). Lovejoy and Tinker - Love the tongue in cheek statement. Pippas Crew - Got to love modern technology haven't you, before to get this type of shot you had to pay thousands for a special camera or to painstakingly stick separate photos together. The main thing I like about this image is that you have included someone in the foreground to give it a great sense of perspective. HolleyR - The shot of the butterfly is fantastic and beautifully focused, the only thing is it is slightly under exposed if you put this through photoshop you could really make this look fantastic. DrDic&Vick - I really love the sky in this shot and it does show that we can have some nice weather in this country. Looks a really nice place to visit. I really wish I could get a closer look though as I can't see a lot of detail in the landscape. MaxiP - This image show why the Lakes has to be one of the prettiest places in this country. This is a really nice shot and it makes me want to be there. The Bloranges - I really like the shot of the gates it makes me wonder what type of secret garden lies behind. The shot of the naked ladies in front of the cottage is also very good and shows how lovely and (for fear of sounding like an American) quaint Cornwall is. markandLynn - I really like what you have tried to do with this photo its just a shame that the foreground wasn't more in focus. Keehotee - I thought this shot was fantastic and I really love the abstract nature. It also shows the friendship and fun this hobby can bring. I really like the idea that in a few years time the owner of this cast will look back at this photo and a ton of memories will come flooding back. martlakes - I love the shot of the lake the colours of the trees are great and also the stone balancing, I too have given this a go and it can make for a really good shot, if you would have gotten a little lower with the camera the rock would have stood out more making for a slightly better photo. The Chaos Crew - I really like this shot and it shows the great sense of adventure geocachers have and the mad things we will do to find tupperware. So before I announce the winner I'd just like to say thankyou all for entering and I hope no one take offense to my criticisms. These are only my opinions and weren't meant to cause any offense whatsoever. So to the winner after much deliberation it came down to 2 images Alibags wasp and Keehotees plaster cast and although the wasp was the best shot by far it came down to the fact that the image of the cast was so abstract and fun and I don't think it would look out of place in a modern art gallery. So the winner by a very small margin is Keehotee congratulations
  7. Thanks to Haggis Hunter for choosing my shot to be the winner (and also for the gentle reminder to start this months comp). Please get your photos posted on this thread before the 1st of October The rules are the same as the previous 6 months 1) The only hard and fast rule is that the photo must be cache related and to do with a specific cache, caching series or caching trip. There should be a hyperlink(s) to the cache(s) in the post. The cache(s) must be from the UK or Ireland. The following rules are open to interpretation/flexibility/judges whim... 2) Two photos per cacher per month (give or take). 3) A new thread is started each month, with the OP stating these rules. 4) The winner each month is decided by the winner from the previous month - the new winner starting the thread for the subsequent month. They may set a theme if they wish. 5) Photos should be recent if possible. (No debates as to what recent means! This rule is flexible.) 6) The competition runs from the 1st of the month, until a date specified in the OP by the previous months winner. This should give sufficient time for the winner (or other person if necessary) to start the new thread. If you haven't already uploaded a photo, a good tip might be to upload to one of your log entries (it can just be 'post a note'). Then, display the photo and copy the URL to provide a link to the post. If it's not actually relevant to the cache you've used, delete the note and the photo - the URL will still work. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing all your cache related shots.
  8. Here is my entry this was taken on our my scout troops summer camp to Huish Woods near Taunton This image is taken from my troops cache The 159th Huish Adventure
  9. Like a few others our 100th was our first event. The only nightmare was we had to leave early (after about 1hr) as my son slipped on some ice and banged his head really hard. Not the sort of day I had planned.
  10. I'd be glad to help. I have PM'd you my address Cheers Grand-Moff
  11. Thanks for the quick reply but no it was the closest cache to me.
  12. I have been trying to help a friend load caches onto her HCx, but everytime I load direct from the cache page, when I unplug the unit the cache isn't visable. This seems to work fine on my Colorado so I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Can someone help me please. Cheers Grand-Moff.
  13. Thankyou MM that was the trouble. You learn something new everyday. Cheers Kevin
  14. Can someone please help? I just updated my PQ of my 500 unfound local caches. When I tried to put them onto my GPSr I get an error message saying not enough free space, even though I deleted the original gpx file it was replacing. I then tried loading it onto the installed SD card but my unit fails to see the file. The next step I was going to try was to completly wipe the internal memory and reload everything but I was a little nervous about doing this incase it was irreversible. I hope someone can help as I am about at the limit of my knowledge. Cheers Kevin. P.S. I don't know if this makes a difference but I am doing all this through a Mac.
  15. I'm 33 and my wife is a shade older. We have 3 young kids 9,7 and 5 and as a family we love the game
  16. It is possible, I have set it up so every time i click on my bookmark I am sent straight to the googlemap page of my area already logged in. Thats the good news , the bad news is I set this up a while ago and can't remember how to do it. I will have a play and see if it comes back to me. Sorry I can't more helpful.
  17. I'd be interested to know what GPS functionality you will lose as I have a mac and found no problems so far admittedly I have only owned my Colorado for about 1 month.
  18. Hi can anyone tell me where to find bookmark lists for for things such as night caches or extreme caches? Cheers Grand-moff
  19. Thanks guys should be able to work out some caches from the links ta.
  20. I recently picked up a geocoin whos mission is to be placed in caches along the cycle network route 41. I have had a quick look at the route online but its hard to see specific roads and paths it travels along. I was wondering if anyone has a bookmark list of caches along this route, or a more detailed map of the route itself so I can help this coin on its way. Cheers Grand-moff.
  21. Thanks for the quick replys, once again just me being incredibly dense. All sorted cheers, Grand-moff
