  1. Don't know what happened to the Hyperlink. Let me try again: Black Box
  2. I reciently just got back from a trip to score a specific cache. My question: What is the furtherest distance that you have traveled JUST to score a cache? No, I don't mean a business trip or some other excuse. What I want is travel specifically just to score a cache. No other reason. I reciently went 372 miles to score a specific cache. The major reason was EGO. I live in San Diego, CA and last wednesday went to do: Black Box Read about it there. This will provide memories for a long time. -- SlideRule
  3. And worth every sleeping moment that you spent in Physics class. If you want to do the Black Box problem ( To test you approach to the SD Problem ). I will tell you Yea or Nea if you are within 100 meters of the final location. -- SlideRule
  4. It is easy to make a spread sheet to do that calculation. I have one and it is easy.
  5. You have two GPS'r One for the car and the other moble (out of the car) You are in a foreign city looking for a 1/1 and the GPS'r points to a light pole. Without leaving the car you know to raise the skirt of the light pole, first.
  6. I found it - Go look at the cache page We bad, bro' -- SlideRule
  7. Here locally, we have a group of people that like to make geocache puzzles. All is well and good. Except: 1) Some puzzles are self contained (All the information needed is within the puzzle ) Example: The Hustler 2) Some are not. Some are advanced exercises in Cryptology. Without a clue as to what is the solution, the base, the origin. I propose that a good geocache puzzle should be solvable by at least half the general caching community. And not those cachers that get the coords by blind guessing. I also submit: That if the FTF needs clues to solve the puzzle, the puzzle should be redesigned to include that information within the Puzzle. Example: Neutrino What say you one, what say you all?
  8. I will not be gloated into a race for a measly 10K.
  9. What strange things do you do because you like to GeoCache? -or- You know you are a GeoCacher when: 1) When you leave the house, you check that you have all the essentials: Keys, wallet, GPS'r 2) When you see someone wandering about looking at his 'Cell Phone' do you think GeoCacher? 3) Do you carry around bits of paper with numbers on it like N 43 34.567 ? 4) You have a file cabinet in your car to keep track of all the paper descriptions of the caches you haven't found? 5) You constantly are on the lookout for places to place the next cache? If you do, you might be a geocacher. Others?
  10. Have I just had fun... Somone posted on another forum that there was a Never Been Found Puzzle that had not been solved in two years. Well, out came the ol' SlideRule, and I have sent the owner a solution. If he agrees, I will drive the 200 miles to find the cache. I will not be FTF but, FTF in two idle years. Happy
  11. What a fine Physics Problem - I will email the owner the suspected coords within the hour. If he/she agree, I will be on the road within the hour. I live in San Diego, so a trip of this magnitude is not to be taken lightly. But, an excellent Physics Puzzle as well as a FTF in two years is too much to pass up.
  12. Now how do I delete the extra forum posts that I made ?
  13. Question: How do you get those photos/Cartoons to show up on the left side of the forum posts?
  14. When I started this thread, I thought that I had a good idea. The collective wisdom, is my idea was not too good. Although, I feel that a person that solves a puzzle and contacts the owner of the puzzle should get some kind of pat on the back. I was thinking about persons that are not able to get to the cache for whatever reason. Or the person that solves the puzzle, but wants to verify prior to the FTF. But, then a puzzle is a puzzle, And Geocaching is Geocaching. Obviously any FTF takes presidence over a FTS. As far as I am concerned - You all have convienced me. I had a bad idea...
  15. FYI, SlideRule's cross-post in the big forums has taken on a life of its own. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=93831 I don't recall the sequence of postings. I recall posting once, not finding it and then reposting. Evidently, I posted into two different forums.
  16. I guess, One mans meat, is another mans poison. That Math Cache took me a couple minutes without pen and paper - 7 equations with 5 unknowns - QED
  17. Hmm, would that be an aided or an unaided FTS? I don't know the difference - Aided / Unaided
  18. I'd say just write a note on the page and claim yourself as FTS. D! Without verification? Im not sure. But, I did have the thought that if someone said 'I am a FTS' then someone else could email the FTS, ask about the coords and get the FTF without solving the puzzle.
  19. My thought was that there may be someone in a far off place that would like the challenge of a FTS without being able to do a FTF
