  1. Everything you need to know is here - http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/
  2. I highly recommend reading The Complete Idiot's Guide to Geocaching. You can pick it up for $11 and change on amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Idiots-Guid...8263&sr=1-1
  3. I use a nuvi and it works great. But I'll only keep using it until I've saved up for a handheld gps. Nearly everything you need to know about how to use the nuvi for geocaching can be found here - http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/ Click through the pages there to see both how to use it as a paperless unit AND how to use it to navigate successfully to the cache.
  4. I use the aerial view on google maps to FIND a parking spot and then choose that as my destination.
  5. Aren't you afraid of getting stuck with used needles, cut with glass and infected with fecal matter, etc? I just don't see how you could survive very long as a regular dumpster diver, haha.
  6. This has been brought up over and over again. Supposedly Groundspeak is working on a rating system. In the meantime, one exists if you use firefox/chrome - gcvote.com
  7. Way to ressurect an old thread. And while we're on the topic of ressurection, the most famous geocacher I can think of is Jesus - Matt 13:44 says... “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again..." www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+13%3A44&version=NLT Also, famous jeopardy legend Ken Jennings is a geocacher and also writing a book which discusses geocaching. ken-jennings.com/blog/?p=1465 He was actually here on the forums awhile back asking for stories or something.
  8. Team Delorme added a new blog post today about the PN-60w which includes a video clip. Chip went on a hike and brought the PN-60w along. He took some video of himself sending a message using the SPOT Satellite Communicator. (For those who are unaware, the PN-60w with the SPOT Satellite Communicator is Delorme's latest creation set to hit the shelves in early July, the PN-60 without the SPOT Satellite Communicator will be out in mid-June.) Check it out - http://blog.delorme.com/2010/05/24/beta-ch...lore-and-share/ Any thoughts?
  9. Not sure about your particular problem, but the BEST way to geocache with a nuvi is outlined here - http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/
  10. Nearly everything you need to know is here - geocaching.totaltechworld.com/
  11. You could always make an external battery pack so that your nuvi can run on AA's. I did it with my nuvi - http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...amp;mode=linear
  12. Not sure, but I would look through the GSAK forum and/or post your question there.
  13. Yes, Burton Chance park! That's a slab of cement. We watched the fireworks from this park a few years ago. Thanks for the great screenshots! That's fantastic that you can zoom that far in (in the city).
  14. Awesome, so is the 80 ft. level the farthest you can zoom in?
  15. Oh, duh, haha, I was looking only at the map and not right above it, haha. Yes, I am in Los Angeles, so ultra-high res would be very cool. Thanks for the screenshots of the color DOQQ.
  16. Cool, so are those the highest quality (highest zoom level)? And then you are manually zooming in on them on your pn-40 - hence the pixelation (is that a word?)? Also, would you mind giving me the rough lat/long coords of those photos because I'd love to look at them on google maps to kind of get an idea of how big those trees and other things are. Thanks for the quick reply, the more I learn about the pn-40 the more I love it!
  17. I'm thinking of buying a pn-40 in the near future, and one of the biggest selling points for me is the ability to have aerial maps on it. My question is, though, how far can you zoom in on the aerial maps? Can any pn-40/30 owners out there tell me what the scale is when you zoom in the farthest (100ft per inch, for example)? (Screenshots would be even better!). Thanks!
  18. Nearly everything you need to know about the nuvi and geocaching can be found here - http://geocaching.totaltechworld.com/ If you're interested in adding a lanyard or creating a battery pack so that it can run on AA's, let me know (I've done both on my nuvi).
  19. I'd go for a pn-40, you can find them for 220 shipped right now. It has a bit lower battery life, but just use rechargables. Also, it's paperless
  20. Yeah, 235 shipped on amazon, and 220 shipped from a bunch of other retailers, see here - http://www.google.com/products?q=pn-40&amp...0&scoring=p
  21. Try this - http://gcvote.com/index.php
  22. Thank you for the quick reply. I've held off downloading Base Camp due to my 512 Mb of RAM. You should look into doubling or quadrupling your RAM, it's EXTREMELY cheap and easy to pop the ram out and pop the ram in (at least on a pc). You'd probably be looking at less than $10 to double your RAM, and not much more to quadruple it.
  23. Can someone explain how to install 1.1? I'm trying to reinstall it and it's 1.0 still.
