  1. I personally would like to see integration to Buxley's Waypoints. This would help me feel like the $30 /yr would be worth it... Acer0001
  2. I would get rid of the radioactive sticker though (considering the box isn't radioactive anymore!) Acer0001
  3. I needed a hiking staff, but being impatient as I am, didn't want to create a wood one by hand and wait for it to cure, etc. I live in TX and on a summer trip to Denver, CO, I went to a local ski shop to see if I could find used poles. I was able to buy a set of aluminum Leki poles with wrist straps (great for preventing losing the pole should I let go) for $24 - off-season clearance price. Boy, I got wierd looks asking for ski poles in the summer! The poles are very light weight and don't have to worry about them collapsing since they are a solid piece. Best of all, I have a set - two identical poles, not bad for $12 each. I kept the cage on them and it has prevented the poles from sinking deep into soft ground. I can strap one to the back of my pack and not even know it's there since they are so light. May sprained and broken body parts have been prevented thanks to these poles. Acer0001
  4. Has anybody thought that GC.com and Buxley may be trying to work towards integrating Buxley's technology for mapping caches into the GC.com website? You know... get the best of both worlds? Acer0001
  5. Has anyone thought of doing a presentation during one of the police staff meetings on Geocaching? Maybe some members of the local geocaching group could speak with a display (kinda like those science fair boards when you were a kid) showing what caches look like, where they are typically hid and what they usually contain. This will inform the LEOs ahead of time and they won't have to learn about it when questioning someone in th field... Just an idea.
  6. Sounds cool. What I might do is go to the cache area and if there isn't one there, place a container & log and email the new coordinates to the owner. It is the only cache in this part of China for many miles, so I doubt that it could be maintained. Would it be appropriate to recommend to the owner to be changed to a virtual?
  7. I was wondering what the guidelines are for finding disabled or archived caches. This cache site Fujian, Xiamen, Gulanguys first has been disabled for a while now, but I will be in the area next week. It is the only cache in this part of China, so I would like to go find it. But, I would like to get a smiley for the effort, because it isn't the easiest cache to get to. Any opinions? Thanks. Acer0001
  8. I am leaving on October 1st for Asia. I am more than willing to take TBs overseas. Just let me know how to get them... We have connecting flight through San Jose from Austin. I wish we were going through DFW instead... Acer0001 Acer0001@yahoo.com
  9. I have a business trip to Kawasaki, Japan, Penang, Malaysia, and Xiamen, China. Can someone that lives in these countries give me some coordinates? I would like to search for caches that will be geographically close to where I will be. Also, is there anything I should know about caching in these countries? I really don't want to be a foreigner that ends up in jail in a unknown land because I am thought of being suspicious while looking for a cache. Are there poisonous plants animals or bugs that I need to watch out for? Any tips would be very helpful! Thanks, Acer0001
  10. Since I like to fish a lot, I leave a small bag with a fishing lure that I know will work in the area of the cache. I place my sig card in the bag with it. Fishing lures are fairly inexpensive and those who lose them fishing seem to appreciate it... kinda the same idea as TroutGuy78. Acer0001
  11. I will be traveling to Asia (Japan, China, Malaysia) in 2 weeks and would be glad to have a few world-traveler TBs along... I plan to cache quite often after work while in each country. Just let me know... Acer0001
  12. I got PI for the first time a few weeks ago on my left forearm. It itched like a mother... I used a generic Wal-Mart anti-itch cream with "Maximum Strength Antihisamine" and it seemed to stop the itch to a dull roar. Later the wife bought the Benedryl and it seemed to dry it up. It finally went away 2-3 days ago. Yesterday, she bought some Tecnu on sale at Wal-Mart for $2.50 and it included a travel bottle and I will try to use it for prevention next time. I'm even thinking of going and stocking up at that price! PI is rampant in the late summer in central TX, especially since we've had an unusually damp summer.
  13. I really liked the calendar - espacially being able to click on the date on the main page and see what caches I found that day...
  14. Wal-Mart has many good, but inexpensive items for $1.50 or less. I personally love fishing, so I leave fishing lures as one of my signature items. I get the $1 ones that will catch fish in the area that the caches are in. I also work for a technology company and we have lots of vendors that give away some cool and useful trinkets (like LED flashlights, emergency whistles, pens that glow w/ neon, t-shirts, brand-new nike golf balls, etc.) Just a few ideas...
  15. I have adopted a cache and have disabled it so that it can be repaired. When it is ready to be found again, will the cache be seen as "NEW" and be included in the new cache email notiification or will it just be enabled and available again on the general listing? Acer0001
  16. from junglehair - > * Geocaching may be permitted in State Forests and Wildlife Management Areas under a permit from the DEC and proof of insurance. Proof of insurance?... A cache has to have insurance? That's a first. Acer0001
  17. Are there web sites that do this? I am looking to convert from addresses to GPS cordinates and from coordinates to addresses. I have tried using MapQuest and others and I seem to remember that they used to display this, but they seem to have been taken off. What do you guys use? Thanks. Acer0001
  18. I have heard of people pulling out their compass when the trees get thick or they can't get a satellite line-of-sight. How is the compass used in this situation? I am familiar with the GPS, but not as savy with the compass. Thanks. Acer0001
  19. Thanks all. These explanations would be helpful in the Owner's Manual. I guess you can't have everything... Happy Geocaching!
  20. I just bought an eTrex (yellow) to do Geocaching and to use when hiking. As I am learning how to use it, I notice that the signal strength bars on the Advanced Skyview page can be solid or empty. I understand that the solid bar means that the receiver has "locked-on" to the satellite, but what does the empty bar mean? I have searched Garmin's site and the owner's mnual and didn't find an answer. Thanks. Acer
