  1. Do you celebrate your caching milestones? If so, how? And did you save a special cache especially for any of your milestones?
  2. WEB03 I noticed if you bring up the map page and then you leave the page alone for awhile without moving the cursor AT ALL the whole time while it is loading, you cannot get ANY of the cache names to come up. ---Edited to clarify---
  3. Could it be as simple as signing out of the Forums, then signing back in? I also was curious as to why there was that 'Resend Validation' link up there. What happens when you click it?
  4. Just an idea but, wouldn't it make sense if a cache is archived that any trackables that are shown to be in that cache be automatically marked as missing? This cache (GC46F0) got me thinking about it.
  5. The floor mat? With all the Good places there are to hide a cache, the store wants to hide a cache under their filthy floor mat? Uh, No Thanks.
  6. You'd be better off with traditionals if you want more traffic. Multi caches get a lot less traffic.
  7. I don't know if you can, but I don't think so. If you're worried about mileage you could always dip the TB back into the cache. Just an idea.
  8. WEB20 on IE WEB15 & WEB19 WEB10
  9. I've got news for you... you are filmed without your permission almost constantly these days. You've probably been "filmed" while geocaching many times, also... at least if you've done any parking lot hides. Why would you assume the worst because you found a game camera in the woods? There's a big difference between security cameras in the parking lots of businesses and a single individual (a CO) placing a camera at the cache site for who knows what purpose. For as many who say they may do it to catch muggles, there are as many who do it for other, ill-intentioned, reasons. You ask, why assume the worst. We can easily ask, why assume the best? We live in a time of social media everywhere we turn with people who not only disregard their own privacy, but worse yet, have no problem violating other people's privacy as well. Those of you that feel this way had better stay indoors then. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photography_and_the_law#Privacy_issues Knowschad's attitude is one that is very frustrating. The "if you don't like it, don't play" attitude. Trying to accuse us of being crazy paranoid simply because we value our privacy. There's absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting a CO to secretly photograph us enjoying the game, but you demonize those of us who feel differently than you. It's very hard to have an opinion in these forums that opposes the majority, because if you do and are willing to voice it, there are always plenty of people who try to make you look like a fool. Some of us have valid privacy concerns in regards to this topic and it's perfectly acceptable, despite how others may treat us because of our opinions & feelings. +1
  10. On the description page you could say that it is a 'sweet oasis in this ocean of concrete'. Of course the sweet is the TicTac, and the description might give them a pleasant mental picture. --Dulce-Joy
  11. I can honestly say that in all the GRC (Guard Rail Caches) we have found, we have never encountered wasps or bees or anything of the like. Probably the only thing we normally find are spider webs. Also, GRCs aren't always magnetic key holders, sometimes they are 35mm film canisters. --Dulce-Joy
  12. Is Groundspeak aware of this issue?
  13. I was going to report this myself, once I'd figured out why it is happening. What I've figured out so far is that normally, when you move the mouse over each map tile, the web page fires a request to the geocaching.com servers for data about any caches that may be in the area covered by that tile, and uses it to pop up the cache titles and descriptions. The URL for the data it asks for is based on the URL of the map tile. It is supposed to use the map tiles from the geocache icon layer but from time to time it uses the tiles from the base map instead. This means that the web page starts asking Mapquest or OpenStreetMap for cache details, rather than Geocaching.com What I've not yet figured out is precisely why this happens. It seems to be related to adding or removing layers on the map, which happens when you zoom, change map type, or add different overlays (like filtering out your finds). However, it doesn't happen every time you do one of these things... For ME it happens about EVERY time! Some icons do work and other don't. So in the end I ALWAYS need to reload the map to have the other caches working which is a bit annoying ;-) Bye, Christian Same here.
  14. The bug icon is how trackables should be in the cache. The reward (blue ribbon) icon is how many favorite points the cache has earned.
  15. Thus why a review committee not too unlike earth caches could help with that. And a like any cache a CO has to decide if they are able to naintain it. Dont nix a cache simply because it is "hard to maintain" A CO should know his or her limitations and ability to maintain. Most cachers are honest enough to do the work - same goes for earth caches. If we go by the same standards "its hard to review and maintain" the logic can apply to eartch cachers as well, why have them than? I hoped you read my orignal post about Waymarking. Plus yes, they dont count towards numbers so people generally wont pay attention to them, plus Waymarking is too cluttered with boring places. Again virts can be subject to that which is why I said, make the guidlines for a virt listing more restrictive - again a review committee - same way earthcaches are done. I think that is a good idea expecpt again, it goes against your very logic of high maint. And again waymerker, not many people pay attention to it, so something that has a high WOW factor, may simply not have it. And again all 1 million active cachers dont visit the forums, nor did they go to geowoodstock. And again, Groundspeak stated their words "let the community decide" so I amn throwinf the guantlet down - let the community decide - how about an email vote? Groundspeak is private owned company and last I checked they arent a co-op company. Yeah, but without us putting the caches out there in the first place, there would be no them. There's got to be give and take.
  16. Let's say you were grabbing a few caches and you returned to where you parked your car only to find it gone. You report it as stolen and a few days later the police call to let you know they've recovered your vehicle. You go to the police station and the Desk Sargeant hands you a steering wheel and a hubcap and says, "here's your car." Would you honestly feel comfortable saying the police had found your vehicle? How would you feel if your insurance company agreed? How about someone gave you an ice cream cone, but before you ate the whole thing you dropped it? Later you posted on their ice cream page how you only took one lick before you dropped the cone, but that from what you tasted it was pretty good. Then they delete your log because you didn't eat the whole thing. The rules say "you can post an online tasted it log once you have eaten the cone" but since you didn't finish that would be cheating. What in the Wide World of Sports does that have to do with anything? If you have to strain that hard to pass a metaphor, you should seek immediate medical attention. And It's not cheating. It's smiley fraud. Ice cream analogies are always spot on. [] But the more I think about it the more your car analogy needs a serious response. So let's say may car was stolen and a few days later the police call to say that they arrested some guy trying to sell a steering wheel and a hubcap. However, they are not going to press charges since they can't prove it was my car (or any other stolen car). And they won't give me the steering wheel or the hubcap either. So I ask, "How much of my car would you need to find in order for you to identify it as my stolen car?". "Well", they say, "if we recovered the whole car but it didn't have your registration in it, we would not be able to identify this as your car." "Nonsense" I reply. "Perhaps we would know it was your car, but a good lawyer he would be able to convince a jury there was a reasonable doubt. And the law says that you need the registration to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that this is your car." "But it is my car. You can see the stain on the seat where I dropped my ice cream." Ha ha ha! Now that's humor!
  17. That is exactly in line with all other apps on all other platforms (iPhone, Blackberry, Android, PC) that utilize the current Geocaching Live API. You will get the exact same data using the new free app for the Windows Phone 7 as you will using the $10 Groundspeak Geocaching Live app on the iPhone, or the $4.50 NeonGeo app for Android, or GSAK on your PC. The limits to the data you receive in any of those programs depends on whether you are a Basic Member on Geocaching.com or have upgraded to a Premium Membership. For example, I have an Android phone. I purchased CacheSense. Currently on sale for $5.00, regularly priced at $10.00. If I log into the app using my Basic membership, I can only download 3 full cache descriptions per day. Now if I log into the same app using my Premium membership, I can download many more caches. It seems to me that if you want to use the official Groundspeak app ($0) for your WP7, you are currently getting a better deal than an Android or iPhone user who has chosen the official Groundspeak app ($10) for their device or a WP7 user who previously purchased the old version of the app when they were still charging money for it (I believe it was $10 also.) ~Joe This is incorrect. The free "lite" version for WP7 is the same as the free trial version for iPhone. Forget about premium status, we're just talking basic member status. Is CacheSense the official geocaching app for Android? If not, it doesn't compare.
  18. Are we going to hear from Groundspeak on this matter at all? Even if it is just to let us know what it is that is going on?
