  1. Anyone have some good muggle stories while caching? So far I just get weird looks from people when I am searching. I try to avoid high muggle areas while caching in the daytime and maybe hit it up later in the evening. Today I was doing a LP cache and this couple must have drove past me 3 times staring trying to figure out what I was doing. Then they parked not too far and kept staring. lol
  2. I guess if we want action on this site or any other we have to create it! So I will post another Newb Story! Actually not much newbness to tell. Just getting new caches learning of the different type of containers and hiding spots for them. Finding some clever and not so clever caches. Well I should say they are clever until you learn the secret. I enjoy the ones where I have to go back 3 or 4 times before I find it. It is challenging and rewarding when you finally find it! I've found everyone in the area is pretty cool and respond to emails about their caches for hints or whatnot.
  3. Hey can you post the link to that group I can't seem to find it on there. thanks
  4. Is there a way on Geocache Navigator (for a mobile phone) to obtain coordinates of your current location to hide a cache? If so how accurate is it? Thank you
  5. lol Photom. Gone Cachin I'll email ya about thursday thanks!
  6. Hopefully I will be able to attend the next event!
  7. Well today I went out and did a different cache while I was running some errands downtown modesto. If you guys haven't done this cache yet it was a fun find. Out in Plain Sight is the name of it. Although looking through the logs I do see a few of you experienced cachers have been already
  8. Oh darn, my wife and I have a birthing class that is from 9am-5pm. It was suppose to be 2 weeks ago but the teacher was ill.
  9. Adventures in Geocaching (Newb Style) After work this morning I thought it would be great to plot some caches and head out on my journey. My wife while getting ready for work thought I was crazy but I was determined to hit some up. Although the good "Geocache Navigator" is on her phone, so I have to rough it with hand drawn maps from the satellite images and my trustworthy "Tom Tom" *cough cough*. 7 A.M Traffic is light and the sun is bright. I arrive to my first destination and nab it, no problem! 2nd and 3rd locations . . . . sprinkler's galore, so I evade those caches. Then my inexperience kicks in. My next few destinations I look around for the caches and they are not as easy as I thought they would be. I am also tired and starting to realize "hey this isn't as fun alone". 8 A.M So as I log my one cache that I had found I thought I may share my experience with you guys and reach out. I'd like to go on some caches with some of you who have had some experience at this. If any one would be willing to take a newb on let me know.
  10. Not too long ago I found a stash which I thought was a cache I was looking for. It was a baggy in a good spot. As I was pulling it out I noticed there were 2 syringes in it. I quickly dropped it and got out of there, kinda freaked me out. Emailed the owner of the nearby cache and hadn't heard back.
  11. I think being stealth in some area's is fun and its part of the thrill of the hunt. Sometimes I don't even stealth in some area's because no matter what ya do it will look suspicious. For example searching through an alley near people's backyards. If you are doing an urban cache and you are in parking lots, there are going to be people around. It is easier to be stealth if you are with a someone. You can get out of the car and pretend you are talking to the driver and having a good time until the coast is clear and grab the cache. Its just little things you can do to be stealth.
  12. I'm shocked the forum is working. I haven't been able to get on for the past few days. Dang maintenance
  13. Its funny you will discover hiding places where you would never think to hide something.
  14. this is just a user name I have been using for years on various forums and online activity
  15. I'm going about a week now! Welcome!
  16. A tale of a newb geocacher still learning his senses. Was trying to findUrban Commando its pretty well hid. I'm looking through shrubs, and dirt and everything. I think it was about 110 out almost! I must have spent like 10 minutes looking for it. So I gave up came home and read the logs, all of them. Now I'm going back tomorrow and attempt it. When you guys started, did you search and search until you got your geosenses?
  17. I am only a member and not a subscriber. Is there a way to search for "New Caches" in my city? Or is that only for subscribers? Thanks in advance.
  18. I'm also new and using a TomTom One. I have found two caches... The GPS got me to the right area and then I used the clues to get me the rest of the way. I'm actually hoping there is a phone that has a good unit because I was planning on getting a new phone anyway. I'm a week into this. If you have the right mobile phone you can download "Geocache Navigator" there is a $5.99 monthly subscription for it, but I think it is worth it. Here is the link to it. http://www.geocaching.com/mobile/default.aspx It has a few good features on it such as radar, compass, and street map gps. So far it has been pretty accurate for us. We are just barely developing our "Geosenses"!
  19. My wife and I today were out doing some caches, and came across a druggie syringe stash. Needless to say we stopped looking in that area. Any of you had the same issue some where?
  20. I guess I need to become a subscriber in order to do these!
