  1. Thank you - I've posted this in the EVC forum too. I'm coming over next week, so it may be a bit soon for an event, but I really appreciate the offer. I also am not sure what days I would actually be able to attend.
  2. Thank you! I did read that thread and got some ideas from it. It kinda concentrates on trips which require a bit of a drive from Eugene though, so it wasn't really ideal. I've signed up to the Emerald Valley website and am patiently awaiting for my account to be activated. Still if anyone has any info here it would be appreciated too!
  3. I'll be coming over from Ireland to Springfield, OR for a week for work. I'll probably have most evenings off, so wouldn't mind doing a bit of caching. Can anyone recommend any nice areas which have clusters of caches nearby? Ideally I'm looking for caches in parks or the like, rather than urban caches. Also, because I'll only have a few hours of daylight I would rather not have to drive too far in order to reach them. Are there any unmissable caches nearby? There do seem to be some excellent caches that require a bit of a journey (covered bridges, Hell Hole etc), but I may have to leave those for my next visit. Thanks for the help!
  4. Just to let you know the only cache you're probably likely to do is the one in Havana in the Hotel Nacional. This one is easily do-able with the very detailed hint - no need for a GPSr. There are some caches in Guantanamo (out of bounds) and 2 which are missing. I think there's one which is still there near Banes which you have to ask a local Cochero (horse-coach guy) for. At least you'll get one!

    Visiting BC

Wow - thanks for that! I will definitely do some of the ones on that list!

    Visiting BC

I'll be visiting BC from Ireland for about 10 days in a few months time. I'm hoping to have quite a bit of time to do some caches in the area, and am currently trying to put together an itinerary. I'll be arriving in Vancouver, heading east towards Kelowna and Vernon, then through Kamloops to Whistler, and finally a few days in the Pacific Rim Park/ Long Beach and Victoria. So are there any areas around there that I should absolutely check out? I enjoy country caches more than urban ones, and like ones with a bit of a walk (although nothing too long or strenous). I'd imagine there are quite a few caches with nice scenery and the like around the area. Oh, and I will of course be renting a car! Any advice you could give me would be great!
  7. Ferry booked for Thursday morning. Hope to get a few caches done en route, and should arrive sometime Thursday evening. Let's just hope it doesn't rain now
  8. I usually have a look for about 1 or 2 mins, and if I don't find it straight away I look at it. If caching on holidays, or if doing a micro or puzzle I will always read the clue
  9. I like descriptive cache pages which give me information on the area I'm visiting. Pictures also make them look nicer. However, I dislike - large chunks of text copy & pasted which have obviously not been read by the cache owner - you need to edit the information somewhat. Also, Cachemate can only handle descriptions of a certain length - anything longer than x words will be truncated. It's quite annoying when a vital bit of information which is at the end of a cache description is chopped off!
  10. Nice feature! For those who don't know, you can pretty much create a route in Google earth between any two points. If one of those points is, say, a point on a road or in the middle of a field, Ctrl+N to add a placemark. Place this at your start location, right click it and select "Directions from this", and repeat at your end location if necessary. You can also right-click the red dot beside a village/ town/ city name and select "Directions from/ to this".
  11. Hezekiah has now posted a complete account of his adventure, and it makes for some very interesting reading!
  12. Oh. I thought the "strange" beercan sizes in the UK (440ml for example) were due to an imperial measure being converted directly to a metric one. Actually, I'm glad that pretty much the only imperial measure left here is the Pint (beer). There would be much complaning if they introduced the 500ml "pint". Those extra 68ml really make a difference
  13. I too hate having to rely on the postal services. I have never had anything delivered to the wrong address (touch wood), but I have had to wait for ridiculously long to get post. A parcel from the UK can take nearly two weeks to arrive, whereas I can get something from the US or Hong Kong in 4-5 days.
  14. I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in setting up a Stargate cache in the UK? The Stargate cache network allows TBs to quickly travel from one Stargate to another. A TB is placed in one Stargate cache, the owner logs which Stargate they'd like to TB to go to, and the Stargate cache owner picks the TB up and posts it to the destination Stargate. There are currently 13 Stargates in the US, one in NZ and Australia, and 5 in Europe. It's a bit of fun, and will only cost you a few quid a month in postage and envelopes. I set up the Irish one in August, and it has already seen quite a few visits. I've received a fair number of TBs that want to go somewhere in the UK, and had to release them into regular Irish caches, hopeing someone would bring them across the water. Having a Stargate in the UK would help quite a lot! So would anyone be interested in setting one up? Let me know if you have any questions! Irish Stargate cache -> Link
  15. I too will be visiting NY in the next few months. When looking for caches here in Ireland in public places I generally don't worry about muggles too much. If they see me rummaging in bushes they generally don't think too much of it, and as long as I'm careful when retriving the cache it's all good. I doubt this is the same in NY. Surely if people saw me poking around in bushes or alleyways they would find it suspicious, and tell me? Is this something I should look out for?
  16. As the UK coins seem to be sold out.... I was wondering if anyone is wiling to trade a UK coin for a German Silver or Gold geocoin?
  17. One thing I don't think has been mentioned... Caches aren't the only things in plastic bags in some areas. I'm sure we've all been on cache hunts where in desperation we open a nearby bag only to find it full of rubbish. Once I even opened a bag to find it full of syringes! All well and fine for those who wear gloves (and believe me, I'm starting to contemplate this too), but for those who go au naturel it can become a health issue.
  18. I should really check these forums more often! I only spotted his thread now! I wonder why it says I joined in June? I joined in Jan 05, on the day I found my first cache. This is a slightly suspicious
  19. 93 this year, dunno last year. For a country with less than 300 caches (Ireland) this isn't too bad.
  20. Yes, editing the posts and saving doesn't work. I have a feeling some manual intervention may be needed...
  21. I don't know if it's just me, but I don't see maps on any new cache pages for Ireland placed on the 16th of April. GCNH80 GCNH61 GCN1TB GCNGD6 Surely they should be there by now?
