  3. Well done Adrian, may this be the first of many! Jon and Lesley
  4. Nice one Oggie_gb! 200 and going good. Well done from The Dewdrops!
  5. Blimey, now that's devotion... must have cost a fortune! Whoever said geocaching is a 'cheap' pastime?
  6. Well done from The Dewdrops too! Got those photos published yet! Jon (& Lesley)
  7. I noticed that Chris (AKA Lassitude) has thrown in the towel after 3 years - almost hitting the 500 mark! What makes a guy do these sort of things, and how can we bring him back into the fold? And Volvo Man, another 450+ cacher...
  8. Been there - tick the run macro box and then ?
  9. I have been using GSAK for 6 months or so, and have always used the default setting of listing ALL caches by distance from my home point. I have a filter to list unfound caches, which works fine. How can I have GSAK open and show only my unfound caches? Thanks. Jon
  10. Thanks for all the good wishes guys. Can't wait to get the next 300! Jon & Lesley
  11. I'll be there come sun or snow! I am aiming to make the 300th by finish off the Kennet and Avon series so I have around 12 mile to walk tomorrow -got my thermals out already!
  12. Our 300th is on the cards for this weekend. Can we have a silver GC pin badge to acknowledge our GC prowess? Oooh that'll be a good idea for a GC money-spinner! Jon
  13. Anyone newbies in the East Berkshire area would like to hook up, please drop us an email. We are active just about every weekend, even in winter Jon and Lesley
  14. I too am looking for a partner & have the co-ords of the main cache. Jon
  15. Excellent idea and what I have done for some years. I have 5 email accounts that I redirect to my main email account. Try http://www.virtualnames.co.uk/ They can provide you with your own chosen domain name and email address for about £5 a year. With the webmail service provided you can access your email from any PC connected to the Internet. Jon

Hey it works! Not sure how far I am now up to the limit, but I tried another 200 characters and it accepts them - thanks! All I need to do now is figure out how to enter the code into the 300th cache boxes! Seriously though, now looking at the 'Bookmark' function that has been suggested, this seems the way to go. Experimenting. To be continued... Jon

This is one of the new facilities in the updated GC site? Is there an FAQ - I just seen your bookmark page - very impressive too! Jon
  18. Been with Tiscali Broadband for 4 years. Originally with Worldonline, but they somehow seem to have be absorbed into the Tiscali 'domain', together with quite a few other ISP's. Whilst their 'online' service is reasonable, the 50:1 contention has become deteriorated - noticeably slower than 18 months ago. Had nothing but bad news trying to call anyone at Tiscali. I am switching to Demon - that's when Tiscali release my line, 15 working days AFTER the 30 day notice period. To summarize - reasonable value when all going well.... Jon

With 300 cache finds knocking at the door next weekend, seems a good idea! Redesign of the profile is on the prioity list. Thanks for all advice. Jon

Yes strange? Maybe it depends on how the content is broken down over each field? Most of my info is in the 'hobbies' field - perhaps the way to do this is to break dwon the content equally between all the fields, if you see what I mean? I would be interested to hear from anyone who has managed to work out the best way of doing this. Jon

Is there a character limitation in each of the 'Latest News, Biography and Hobbies' fields? When I try and add more information into my Hobbies field (not that I have any apart from caching... , I get an error: "String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated." Is there a workaround I wonder? Thanks, Jon
  22. STOP PRESS... At the start of a 9 cache day... Placed the GPSr on the roof of the car to get co-ords whilst getting the walking gear out. Slammed the boot shut. Crash GPSr took a 4' fall onto solid concrete in the car-park, then bounced another 1'. When picked up it had switched itself off. Fearing the worse I switched on. Hey presto... Fired up, no problem. What PDA would have survived this I wonder? Garmin +++++ Jon
  23. Well three weeks in, and I am very impressed with the performance of the GPS60. Although the GPS60 is a little larger than the Etrex, it does have a more useable map and tracking display. However, the main advantage is having the external helical antenna... I had a problem with a particular cache recently, which was under heavy tree cover. The Etrex frequently lost signal or was erratic. When I revisited the site yesterday, the signal with the GPS60 was rock solid, sending us to the same exact spot time and time again after re-approach. I also find the averaging utility useful, something that the Etrex lacks. I am sure we will see more and more of these receivers in use over the coming months - albeit slightly more to buy than the Etrex, they are well worth the additional cost! Jon
  24. So are you saying that a 125k photo should be the maximum to ensure the GC doesn't further 'manipulate' the picture size downwards? Sometimes I can 'enlarge' a photo's size on screen by putting the mouse cursor onto the photo and clicking the floating icon on the bottom right. What I can't fathom is why this option is available on some photos and not on others, despite being saved in the same size and resolution? Think I need to join a camera club... Jon
  25. I have a question that someone may be able to answer here, albeit loosely linked to this topic? I regularly take photos of my caching visits. I generally take quite a few but normally post only a photo of the cache container, and maybe a couple of shots of the general area. I do this in the vain thought that I may be helping fellow cachers decide whether or not to visit the site, and for those who have already decided, to get a general feeling of the area. Anyway I digress... My question relates to sizing of the photos. I usually resize my photos to 1024 x 768, and then upload with a 25% file size reduction. This normally gives a file size of around 200-300 kb. When displaying the photo on the GC site, there seems to be 2 possibilities, one is a slightly larger than 'full screen' image (great!), and the other a maybe 2/3rds screen image. Is there a specific way (or file size) that will display a photo on the site as a 'full page'? Jon
