Well it's been 33 years but yes that sounds about right! How time flies Jon
-
Oh rats - should have noticed the tag!
Mr'D replied to Eclectic Penguin's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
No worry. I don't know what 'tag' you refer to either? Jon -
Looks interesting, although it still has an internal helical antenna. Wonder how this will fare over the old etrex... and how much more it retails for? Jon

Did you like the thumbnail pics on the cache page?
Mr'D replied to chizu's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Great! Can't wait until I can install this on my home PC. Thanks for the heads up! Jon -
Put it back where yer found it PLEASE!

Good question. I can however see an exception to the general rule. Caches placed in summer months may be well covered by natural vegetation. Come winter this vegetation can die back making the cache obvious to muggles. I have moved a cache before, only 5' or so, but I did email the cache owner with updated coords and a photo. Better to move a cache than lose it altogether Jon -
Wahey! Chris is good to see you back! You were one of my role- models when I started caching some 3 years ago. You've got some catching up to do now buddy! As walkergeoff has already said, 'The Long or Short of it' is one of those caches that all us locals will remember forever! Good news. Jon

Right. It's cheap by most sporting membership standards. I compare the sport of geocaching with annual costs of other interests of mine like amateur radio, my local running club, BPA and others, yet I feel I have no say in the way Groundspeak make their decisions. As others have said: I must remember Groundspeak is not a club but a business. Jon

Are you serious? They certainally do have to listen to us, and this is one 'feature' that was introduced without any consultation or agreement of the people who keep them in their very existence. Time will tell, however I think they are playing a very sticky wicket.Jon

Please tell me how? I have Adblock installed in Firefox, I right click the iframe to block the ad but it reappears on relaod and on other cache pages?Jon
-
... and I wonder how long that will last? Jon

And so were premium members consulted before this, rather profound, change of policy? I can't understand how such a decision could have be made without the fee paying membership given the chance of their input. I for one feel steam-rollered into accepting these 'ads' without due consultation to the very people who keep Groundspeak alive. Jon
-
Were premium members polled on this? If so I didn't see it. Jon

I no longer go caching from prepared GSAK data. Been caught out too many times. Nowdays I always check the 'live' cache records on GC beforehand. That way I can identify the archived/multiple DNF's before the unnecessary disappointment of the DNF

Cats Eyes beat the FTF record - Congratulations

This isn't Cats Eyes (who haven't cached since 2005), or catseyes (who haven't found a cache yet)? Who is it please? Jon edited to say... it's cats-eyes -
Well done Nobby!
-
Very well done Wendy and Caesar. You hit your 400th ladmark in one of my favourite places. Jon x

Yes that's a workaround. Wonder if I can 'unattend' to stop the emails?
-
No not in my watchlist, but because they now appear in my "I plan to attend (in the next 30 days)" list, I am getting an email for each and every entry on the bash page. Not a big deal but it's just annoying.
-
Hi, I have registered my attendance at a couple of forthcoming bashes. I am now receiving email updates on each and every log/note. I wonder if there is any way of turning these off? Jon
-
I am probably 90% paper and 10% digital on the PDA. As I don't like taking my PDA in the field I usually end up printing off maps from MM and marking the intended caches. The PDA mapping has come in handy a few times however... when plotting coords for the final on a multi/mystery (especially when near a river!)
-
Many congratulations Liane... what an 'umph' in your cache rate recently! Jon
-
Is it me? Can't believe I'm hearing that Paul!
-
Does anyone have, or know of, a bookmark list of canal caches please? Thank you. Jon
