  1. WHile I am aware of no way to do so, I have gone back to the cache, after it is published, with the permanent log book. The original log is generic, I then replace it with the new permanent log book with cache name and GC code on it. If it has been signed/found already, I transfer the names onto the permanent log. A little cumbersome and annoying, but it worked for the two I have out
  2. Helping support the sport is fantastic, but I totally agree with jellis... Notifications are fantastic!!! Pocket queries are good, but on the iphone they aren't overly needed, however the notifications are excellent if you ever even think about FTF at all.
  3. The only goal I have is to look for a cache at every opportunity I can find, or make... I truly enjoy the hunt, and while I prefer those caches out in the woods somewhere with picturesque views and stunning scenery, I have no qualms in searching for an occasional LPC. It is all about getting outdoors and seeking a cache for me. I don't even mind my DNF list, as it shows that I have, at very least, gotten out of the house and tried to find one. So yes, my goal is to simply continue looking for geocaches at every opportunity I can.
  4. Uncheck "i Own" and "on watch list" Do not bother with "enabled" I believe that will help... Also, I rarely click on attributes at all, unless I looking for specific areas, like THORNY, etc... Generally leave them unchecked
  5. On the same lines: Yesterday I found the remains of a small cache. It was a pill bottle with log and room for small trade items. I found it lying on the ground in the middle of the park, roughly 90 ft from GZ. Lid was missing, pencil missing, log scattered about the park. As I had a waterproof match container with me, almost the size of the original cache, I took it upon myself to replace the cache. I loaded the items in the container I had, included a pencil but minus the TB which would not quite fit, and re-hid where I believe the owner had intended. I then logged a Needs Maintenance on the cache page informing the CO of what I found and what I did. This park has a slight history of muggled caches, but nothing too terrible. About what one could expect from a small public park in the middle of town. In your opinions, did I screw up? Should I have just picked up what I could from the ground, loaded it back into the cache, sans lid, re-hid and hoped for the best after posting or is this acceptable? I have not heard from the CO yet...
  6. On our way to this cache http://coord.info/GCDD96 we encountered these yesterday
  7. Clearly my lightning quick, ninja like search, look, read, and type responses are a detriment in this circumstance. I will refrain from commenting on items until the time has passed. Perhaps I can only comment on threads having made it to the 2nd page... Wouldn't want my responses to be in real time... That's too tough to keep up with.
  8. Allow me to reiterate my post from 1:09pm CST today I get it people, it has since been archived. But as I stated earlier, and referenced above, at the time of my statement it had only been disabled due to the USB mishap.
  9. My bad! When I looked earlier i looked at the CO post that it was disabled due to the destruction of the log device.... Since been archived. Oops!
  10. Use the Advanced Search option and check the box labeled "Exclude your owned or found items from results"
  11. Archived because OP inadvertently destroyed the USB while attempting to open it... Not because it was a USB, but because it was ruined.
  12. Seems to me that it does fall under the guidelines for containing a log (other type of log to record visit) and they list that special tools are required. However, common sense should prevail.. How many people really do carry their laptop with them? As you said, also, who is willing to plug in a strangers USB to their computer? Seems risky. That being said, it does fall into the legal and acceptable form of a cache with log
  13. I've never considered any wildlife "dangerous" Having grown up in the woods of northern Minnesota, I've grown to be aware of the animals and understand that they don't generally want anything to do with us. I have encountered black bear, timber wolf, bobcat, owls, osprey, a badger and a pine martin while geocaching. The angriest/funniest encounter was with an adult beaver. I was near its dam and it didn't seem to care for my presence. It climbed onto the dam and started coming toward me slapping its tail. I backed away, and it started charging me! Funniest thing I had seen in a long time! Once I scooted out of his way and up the bank a bit it wandered back into the water. Was charged by a moose once for being too close to its calf, but that wasn't while caching. Picking blueberries about 10 years ago, we headed around a clump of brush to get to the other side of the berries and came face to face, about 6ft away, from a black bear. He was just eating away, i popped around the corner, scared him and he scrambled off! So engrossed in eating the poor guy had no idea I was there until I was right on top of him. His feet went like scooby doo! Good fun. Surprised a big whitetail buck once too. He was bedded down and I was stalking the woods searching for grouse when i nearly stepped on the bedded buck! I jumped back, he scrambled to his feet and dashed through the brush, running headlong into an aspen tree! He shook that off and tore out of the area. Took a nap in my deerstand about 5 years ago and woke to a full grown timber wolf sniffing the tree my stand was in. Walked around the tree for a few minutes, sniffing and circling, then wandered off into the woods. When I got down and headed back to my truck I saw that almost every one of it's paw prints were in my boot prints. Big fella had followed me nearly step for step down the trail.
  14. I manage to get into PI every year, usually multiple times per year. Geocaching, hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, etc, etc... I use Tecnu when I get in the house, scrub my entire body with it and also IvyDry soap. I then wash my clothing with 1/4 cup of tecnu in the laundry along with the regular detergent. Doesn't always stop it, but it seems to cut down on the amount of rash and hives. Now, when I do get the hives and such, I take a wash rag and soap, scrub the affected area until it bleeds, then I pour isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol on the area. I soak a gauze bandage in the alcohol and cover the area. Twice a day for 2-3 days and the itch and rash are gone. I know it is extreme, and most will never do it, but it works for me. Highly sensitive to PI, so I get after it quickly or I will end up in the ER from it. Started doing this routine, the scrub/bleed/alcohol deal, in 1989 after a major case of ivy itch and rash and have never had worse than a 3"x3" rash since and never longer than 4 days. Hurts like crazy, but it beats a week or much more of suffering the itchy rash, IMO
  15. At 6'1" 225lb with a shaved head, a ton of tattoos and piercings, i don't tend to have people stick around to ask me anything. Most people tend to avoid me and not really interact in any way. A couple of times I have come out of the brush to encounter a muggle and they have almost always just moved on with a tinge of fear in their eyes. If asked, I would tell the truth about what I am doing. Only once have I been asked, and I told the young lady exactly what I was doing. She responded that she would buy a GPSr and take her kids along as it sounds fun! Sometimes the "big scary guy" image is a benefit. Doesn't help me make friends, but it keeps people from asking too many questions
  16. I feel bad, coming off like a Grinch, but I am a bit on the overly cautious side when it comes to this sort of deal. I love the idea and the sentiment, but paranoia is a strong thing. I do hope, assuming the OP is an honest and well intentioned person, that I haven't offended them, or anyone else. Just a matter of opinion based on concern, fear, paranoia and previous life experience, that makes me wary of it.
  17. steffen.ott(OP): No finds, no hides, first forum post.... ...Jez sayin
  18. Or if my friend is from secret santa's neck-o-da-woods
  19. This makes me nervous.... I'm going to tell a complete stranger the hidden location of a gift for a friend of mine and then hope that my friend has the chance to locate said gift prior to the elves? Not that it will happen that way, but it makes me nervous... Far too many what ifs in my opinion
  20. PM the previous finder and verify with them that it was replaced in the exact location they found it. Verify the exact spot they found it in as well. If possible, take another look through the area also. Aside from that, you can temporarily disable the listing until you can verify the cache still exists
