  1. FYI... There's a PDA program called "Star Caddy" (I think that's what it's called.) that attaches a GPS adapter to your PDA. They have most of the major courses mapped. It does every thing from recommend clubs to keeps score with handicaps. It's almost cool enough to make me take up golf.
  2. I like to seed my hides with at least 1 or 2 two items in the $10 range. While I don't expect an "even trade" for those items, it helps set the stage for a good cache. I had one FTF person apologize and come back later with more items for his exchange. I like the custom 1st find items you guys are coming up with.

While I've never tried it between a 110 & a 120 (I have 2 Rino 120s.), I believe they can poll each other with the latest software version. quote:...Bought a cigarette lighter power cord, and find it charges rechargeable batteries when it is hooked up.... Are you sure??? There is nothing in the Rinos to tell the difference between non chargable batteries and chargeable ones. If voltage is truly applied to the batteries, it could cause non rechargeable batteries to leak or explode.

  5. One of the best sites for info on LED and a few other flashlights is the LED museum. Great reviews and tests.
  6. quote:Originally posted by dzavetsky:According to my documentation, my Garmin V can be submerged to one meter for 30 minutes.... That seems like a pretty good claim to me.... Yes but that is just for the electronics not the battery case. Garmin says to dry out battery case before using. I try to stay out of major rain storms but when I can't I try to keep all my electronics as dry as I'd like to be.

And the upcoming Mercury ion clock will have an error rate of 2 seconds since the beginning of time itself. Can I get one for my wrist?
  8. quote:Originally posted by BrianSnat:Everyone should go and post "found its" on his event cache. Wouldn't that be funny? He'd probably get a kick out of it. Maybe everyone could post "looking forward to the event" notes followed by a "went geocaching and skipped your virtual event" on the event day.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Snoogans:http://store.yahoo.com/urdefense/x5tac.html Cheap $40 and light. You can't beat 'em. ... DITTO!!! I own over 25 LED lights and this is one of my favorites. It's handy to have a headlight also for hands free searching.
  10. quote:Originally posted by rjo:Hello Everyone, I've got the RINO 120. What all do I have to purchase to have navigation in the car with my laptop software and/or hardware wise. Also, I am in Canada if that makes a difference for what mapping software I can use, etc. Thanks much! The cable that came with the Rino will work with Mapsource (best for a Garmin product) as well as several other mapping programs. Also hire a driver so you can safely use the above. I tried it out with my Vista once. It was lucky there wasn't much traffic that day. Between glancing at the GPS & the laptop, my driving was seriously compromised.
  11. I had a problem transfering data from my Rinos once. After much trial and tribulation, I deleted the tracks and the routes from the GPS units. I haven't had any problems since. I figure it the must of had corupted data.
  12. quote:Originally posted by nincehelser:Checking some of the obvious things... 1) Is the unit WAAS enabled? 2) Is the WAAS feature turned on? 3) Do you have the latest firmware? George 4) Make sure you're not in "battery saver" mode. (I learned this the hard way. I went for a few months as a newbie thinking I was receiving WAAS on my Vista.)
  13. When 1 out of 11 people are shoplifters, it's nice to know that there are still honest people out there. (I work in retail. Can you imagine how much we could save if everyone was honest. Too bad a few spoil it for everyone.)

BTW... There is a way to set them up to talk around a corner. I did it once as a kid. Anyone else out there done it?
  15. quote:Originally posted by marinerBC:...We Use FRS radios. Most cachers are on Channel 2, subchannel 0... There was a long discussion awhile back (maybe someone will markwell it) where channel 2, sub channel 0 was decided to be the "official" Geo-channel.
  16. The only time I've had a condensation issue was when I filled mine with ice. The ice pulled moisture from the air just like it does in a glass. It sure was nice having a cold drink, however. If you minimize the ice, you won't have a problem.
  17. As another option check out Ofoto. You can join and store pictures online for free. In addition, they will provide you prepaid mailers. When they receive your pics they will process and post them online. I plan on including a mailer and disposable camera with my next travel bug.
  18. Well I won't be able to blame signal loss on the trees this time.
  19. You could use a ground hog and make it an event cache for Feb 2. Depending on if it saw its shadow, you would now how many more winter caching days you had till spring.
  20. Gee... I thought my Vista and 2 Rino 120s would put me in the lead. You guys must sleep with your GPS units. My daughter has a Legend so we have 4 when we travel. I have all the Garmin maps, also.
  21. quote:Originally posted by Renegade Knight:...eTrex Leged. Best bang for the buck if you find it with a rebate. 8megs of Ram. eTrex Vista. Really good gps 24megs of RAM, electronic compass. The one I'd get if I was needing an Etrex. ... Both great choices but I get A Rino 120 before I'd buy a Legend. The Rino has all of the Legend features plus FRS/GMRS radio. I have a Vista and 2 Rino 120. I use the Vista in the car and the Rinos on the hunt. (I've had better reception under tree cover with my Rino than I have had with the Vista or the Legend.)
  22. This getting to be a popular forum. I guess everyone wants one of those hiking sticks of yours.
  23. I've really enjoyed having my Rino 120s with me on vacation. I loaded the DC maps & most everywhere I need to go was there in the palm of my hand. I was also able to keep in touch with my kids by polling their location on the rare occasions that we got separated. Great travel tool.
  24. A pair of Rino 120s & a Vista. I use the Vista mostly in the car and the Rinos on the hunt. (I'm currently a bit pissed that my Vista won't reeceive a WAAS signal any more but it's good enough for the car.)
  25. Flight to DC went well except I forgot to take off my cell phone. I emptied my pockets of everything else metal but of course the phone set off the sensor. Minor delay for the search. Everyone was very polite. It only took 5-10 minutes. It would of taken much much longer had they decided to search my bag. No problems using the GPS. They didn't even notice that I left it on during the decent. I even got the lady next to me interested in Geocaching. I was surprised not to find anywhere to plug in my laptop, however. I was under the illusion that there would be a place to plug in my airline power adapter. My battery is nearly dead. Where's the best place to get good prices for laptop batteries?
