  1. Just wanted to add to this trail so people could see that this still works now - April 2019. On a Mac, using firefox, greasemonkey and the bing key. Happy days.
  2. Finally fixed it Had to reset the GPS then all was good. The unit power up and connected to the Mac as it should, and I was able to drop the GPX file in the right folder without a hitch. Turned on the unit and hooray I have loaded caches!
  3. Have tried again. The unzipped gpx file won't go into the GPX folder for the GPS, it bounces out and puts itself at the top of the display of contents. I've cleared all other caches just in case but it makes no difference. Now I'm stuck with a GPS which wont start up when connected to the Mac. The display on the GPS begins and then cuts out so it never connects to the Mac. I have to use the tactic I read somewhere about switching the GPS unit off when it starts to come alive, then switch it back on again, hold the button in for around 30 seconds then it works.
  4. Thankyou. Whichever way I dragged files I do remember that they got into the GPS but not in the GPX folder. I shall have another attempt and see how I get on with that. Don't think I can be trusted with your script, a little too advanced for me, but thanks anyway, it might be good for others who visit here and have the ability to do such stuff.
  5. I've not used pocket queries very much but can see the benefit particularly for planning trips where lots of caches will be involved. So, I've got my pocket query from the geocaching website, I can 'right click' on the attachement in the file and use Archive Utility App to unzip. Next I dragged the folder with the two files (GPX and wpts.gpx) across to the GPS folder of my Dakota 20. Should have known that was too easy. Eject the GPS to check all the caches are loaded (there were just over 100 and the GPS had less than 20 in it already) nothing. Connect the GPs to the Mac again, and got just a flicker of a response. I'd read what to do for that somewhere which was kind of like a switch it off and turn it on again thing to get the GPS unit recognised on the Mac. Then delete the file as it could be corrupted. So now I'm stuck and puzzled - how do I get all those caches into my unit? What did I do wrong? What also puzzled me is that the pocket query file opens OK with Routebuddy and I get a map with all the caches on which I wouldn't expect to happen if the file was corrupt. Back to user error I guess. Anyone had this problem or able to recognise what I've done wrong?
  6. I don't quite understand how travel bugs work. I thought you had to physically retrieve the bug from a cache and (very soon after) place the bug in another cache. Then I read the help page about bugs and it referred to 'grabbing' which seemed to not involve physically collecting the bug. Or is 'grabbing' just logging your intention to go and collect the bug physically? I'm going to Canada from the UK soon and want to help some little bug along the way. Thanks.
