  1. I've decided to call it quits with Geocaching so I'm selling my Garmin Rino 120. All details are posted on ebay. Garmin Rino 120 ebay auction
  2. I'm having the exact same problem. Using MacGPSBabel version 1.2.4, selecting the geocaching.loc file (Geocaching Database input), GPX XML output (or GPS receiver for output), and it fails to convert. I can connect to the Garmin Rino with GPS Connect, but it useless unless I can convert the .loc files. Can anyone help?
  3. My gielfriend and I were getting ready to do some caching this weekend and were trying to send each other waypoints so that we would have the same ones on our Garmin Rinos. I was entering them in my Rino 120 and when she was ready I sent her a few. Then she said that she had some already entered so she attempted to send them to me but it didn't work. We were on the same channel and I had the scrambling feature turned off (the Rino 110 doesn't have this feature). So we're both stumped as to why I can send waypoints from the 120 to the 110, but not the other way around. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of anything like this? I was going to try to contact Garmin about this but I don't have my GPS with me and I need the serial number in order to contact them.
  4. Just got a Rino 120 last week and finally got to use it this weekend with my girlfriend who has the 110. We had a blast, these are awesome devices. Except for one thing. I can send her waypoints, but she can't send them to me. I need to post about that to see if anyone has any idea why that's not working.
  5. I'm considering buying the Garmin Rhino 120 but was wondering if it is capatible with Mac OS X. I've read mixed reviews on people being able to transfer waypoints to their GPS via Serial connector and USB adapter. But I didn't see anything specifically for the Garmin Rhino. I may be open to an alternative GPS as well. I found the Garmin Rhino 120 on Amazon for $195 which seems like a pretty good deal. It has the built-in basemap and comes with a PC Serial connector (I'd still need to get the USB adapter). I guess I don't really need the FRS radio part, but the price seems to be affordable. If anyone has any info regarding the Rhino series and Mac OS X, can you let me know how well they work together?
  6. Hahaha... thanks for the quote. I'm sure that would get my mind off of her rather quickly.
  7. I think I'm leaving geocaching for good. I really need to get rid of some memories that I have of geocaching with my ex-girlfriend. So the eTrex must go. I have it listed on ebay if you're interested in buying. garmin eTrex GPS - $60 starting price
  8. I was notified today by another cacher that something quite tragic has happened at the location of my first and only cache. Two local high school seniors shot themselves at the exact location. I'm so saddened and hurt by this. I've temporarily disabled the cache. I have no idea when I will re-enable it. Perry Reflection Does anyone else have any similar tragic events to share? Should I re-enable my cache in a few weeks?
  9. I would be interested in seeing a group formed as well. Being a web designer and outdoor lover I have purchased a domain name and have been pondering what to do with it. One of my ideas was to create a blog and have fellow cachers and hikers able to post their experiences to the site. Maybe this is a good place to field the idea. Would anyone here be in the central pa area be interested in participating? I've seen a few names pop up on a regular basis around the area (PAMAP, CCCooper, SBUX, l33t hacksta, biccacher, etc) and would like to extend the offer to them along with anyone else in PA that would like to be involved. My site is: www.greencracker.com Proposed site is: www.patrails.com I already own the domain but still looking for a server for hosting.
  10. I actually grew up in Perry County (easy on the jokes people). And actually, I used to live exactly where this guy is supposed to be hiding! I know the area like the back of my hand. I'm surprised some of the locals haven't found him and shot him yet.
  11. I'll add these to my list. Not sure I'll have a way to do the River Island cache though.
  12. BuckyDef, maybe I'll download SimpleGPS and purchase the connection kit/serial-USB adapter for the Garmin eTrex. The only thing this doesn't give me is WAAS. I'm only using the GPS for geocaching. Oh, I have an Apple G5 running OS X Panther so what ever processing time it takes should FLY. I think the only thing that would effect putting/getting waypoints would be the serial-to-USB converter needed with the connection kit.
  13. Thanks Peter. Maybe I'll stick with this Garmin eTrex for a while. At least until I decide what GPS I want to go with.
  14. Having a computer connection doesn't really matter to me since Magellan doesn't have any Mac software to work with any of their devices. And unless I find software that does work with Mac OS X, I won't be looking into that option.
  15. I purchased a yellow Garmin eTrex about a year ago from a friend for $30. I knew it was a good deal but wasn't sure what to use it for. Now I've found myself enjoying the sport of geocaching! Sometimes it loses signal under tree cover and I'm really not sure about the accuracy. I see that Magellan is releasing three eXplorist models. The 100 is very basic but is WAAS enabled, the 200 has a built-in map region and is WAAS enabled, and the 300 has the built-in map region, WAAS enabled, and has a barometer and electronic compass. I'm considering the 200 or 300. Could anyone tell me why I may find the compass and barometer handy for geocaching? This weekend a cache I was loking for had an elevation in the description but my Garmin was about 40 feet off (elevation wise) which just couldn't be right considering I was at the top of the hill.
