  1. MoleyUK, I have just had a look at your listing and it looks OK so far. Once my magic map website gets back up to speed after its weekend break I will check that. If that is fine then it should be live very soon. Regards The Bee Keeper Volunteer UK Reviewer - geocaching.com UK Geocaching Information & Resources site http://www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/ ** Please include the GC code (or link) and name of any cache you are referring to in your email or reply. Failure to do so may delay your query being dealt with **
  2. We do try to get the review queues done quite quickly. Unfortunately this reviewer has been stuck at work for the past four days. I got back this afternoon to sit down and look at the queue and Unfortunately now the magic mapping is having a break. Once that is all back I shall be going through the queue to help clear it. Although I can thank The Long Man for helping out as I see he has published your cache.
  3. Being a "Site of Local Importance" just like an SSSI does not mean you can not place a cache there. Some areas just mean that the reviewer will ask you to provide the details of who gave permission for the cache as a reviewer note. This should not be a problem of course, as the geocaching knowledge books do say "Please make sure to obtain permission from the landowner or land manager" http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?p....page&id=78
  4. Good luck with that, hopefully it will be successful. If you can keep people updated as to what happens. We can also update the GAGB Landowner Database accordingly. Hopefully we can give them the big green tick with some of the other organisations that have seen how useful geocaching can be. http://www.gagb.co.uk/gagb/glad/index.php
  5. New caches will get a reviewer note from me explaining how to add them but it does not stop them getting published. At the moment they are nice to add but not essential. Groundspeak may change their view in the future.
  6. A large portion of Epping Forest is an SSSI. Two thirds apparently http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation.../Epping_Forest/ . It does not mean you can not place a cache, but you will need to provide details of permission. I have sent back quite a few caches since starting to review Epping Forest. They never seem to come back with details of permission. I have no idea if they have had no joy from the Corporation of London or they just could not be bothered and did not try. If someone would like to try and get an agreement set up and we can then add the details to the GAGB database. The forest is certainly a lovely place and ideal for quite a few geocaches. It just needs someone to start the ball rolling. Just because an area is 'common land' does not mean the land is not owned and therefore allows people to do as they please on it. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommuni...ent/DG_10026177
  7. I have published a cache at the tank. I have also archived a cache at the tank very shortly afterwards. It never got a find as it got nicked straight away. I was not surprised in the slightest. I know the area and its a nice place for litter, broken bottles and people of dubious character to drink. Nice history but not a nice place to rummage for a cache.
  8. Hi Nick & Morgan, Yes you can have a cache in a Nature Reserve. However - when you submit the cache, you will need to add a reviewer note with the details or copy of an email of who has given permission from the wildlife trust. Have a look at the link below my signature for more help about that. 9. 60-70K is not a problem as long as you can maintain it. When you submit the listing make sure you cover how you are going to do that in the reviewer note. It can be a long way when all that is needed is the log book needs changing or drying out. But easy if it you pass the location on a regular basis.
  10. Some people do prefer to keep caching and reviewing very separate so have secret identities. At a recent event I was spoken to by some cachers from mainland europe, they were quite surprised how in the UK most reviewers are known publicly. But we do have broad shoulders to take the flak that comes from cachers that sometimes take reviewer comments as a personal attack.
  11. Hi simell Bear and Ragged has pointed out that I do indeed use another account to geocache with. You can find that under sssss. I was hoping to make it 1521 finds today but the review queue has been a bit busy so I have just been clearing those rather than caching. All of the UK reviewers use two separate accounts and are all well rounded geocachers with a few under their belts. If you have a look at the links that Bear and Ragged has given you. You will find lots of very useful information about getting caches published in the UK. Use those along with the links in the reviewer notes that have been sent to you on both your caches. The caches that you mention that do not follow the guidelines please let me have the details in an email and I will take the appropriate course of action with the relevant cache owners. 12. If you have a look at attributes they have one for "Recommended at Night" if the cache owners use that attribute for night caches then you can search for them a lot easier. http://www.geocaching.com/about/icons.aspx here is the link to the different attributes
  13. It does happen from time to time. A week can be too short in some circumstances, it may be the other cache owner is away on holiday or called away on business. It may be they have a slight temporary domestic situation that is holding their caching for a brief period. They may be dealing with the bureaucracy of getting permission. There are an awful lot of variables. Just sit tight lee_rimar it is but a month, as you have been caching since 2001 I doubt a few weeks will make a huge difference.
  14. Thanks Jo for getting this project up and running, I hope other councils will develop similar projects. Good luck Michelle and Alan I look forward to working with you both.
  15. Which ever of you two get over to the cache first, let me know by email once you have done it and I will unlock the cache so you can log your visit.
  16. cachemate can provide that info for pda's, although I use memory map for the pointer and distance info and cachemate for holding the cache information.
  17. There is a reviewers queue, which we are working through at the moment. We have a bit of catching up to do as it is holiday season and we had a mega event to attend. Hopefully the ones in front of you have followed the guidelines and wont need much reviewer effort so we can get to yours as quickly as possible.
  18. yup it is me. it has been quite enlightening going through the training that is given to a newbie reviewer. I still have much to learn and the other reviewers are slowly bringing me online and up to speed. So you can blame them for any mistakes anyway, here is a picture of me with some of my ladies.
  19. sorry for the delay in getting The Bee Keeper here but I have been held in the Guantánamo Bay Reviewers Camp having the system of reviewing beaten into me. Battered and bruised from initial training I am now buzzing round the reviewing queues.
  20. The UK reviewers try to get new caches reviewed within a few days, it all depends on how many others are in the queue and how much checking we need to do. We do have other chores to do such as work, caching and bee's but we try to get them done as soon as we can. It does help if you have them in the correct queue of course Southern Counties Map so you can check if yours is in the right list.
