  1. Duh...I guess I get it now. I didn't realize that the controversy revolving around vc's involved "counts". For my .02...fine, don't count them. I'm not into gc'n for "numbers", just to have some fun with my son, get some fresh air, and see some things I haven't seen before. "It's an exibition, not a competition" D. Letterman
  2. Yes Mopar I'm desperate to double my count to an even dozen. Thanks for the other links. I checked them. While they are more vc friendly, they don't offer very many caches in my area. So it looks like geocaching.com is currently the class act in cache sites and one must simply concentrate on gc's for now. I hope that the PTB will eventually find a way to admit deserving vc's w/o diminishing the sport for those only interested in gc's. Peace and Happy Hunting!!!
  3. First, I feel your pain. ;-) I scoped out a few nice vc’s in an area with no gc’s and at location where gc’s could not be placed. I wrote some (in my humble opinion) clever hints to make their finding a little less than totally simple and submitted them only to have them routinely denied. In my opinion there is a place in the world for vc's. If done correctly they can be both challenging and informative. They open gc'n up to folks who perhaps can't go traipsing over hill and dale to find regular gc's and they let you take something home with you other than just a trinket and rocks in your shoes – a little new knowledge. As a newcomer to gc’n there seems to be a bit of bias by the veterans against vc’s. I don’t have the experience to understand it, but respect the work done by those before me to get gc’n up to its current state, so I allow them their opinions. Hopefully they will make some accommodation for vc’s on this site in the future that will allow them to exist, but not “bother” those who feel that they are not real gc’s. If not and enough people want vc’s, have no fear, another site will eventually spring up that will allow vc’s. That would seem a shame given the excellent work done at geocaching.com, but gc’n sprang to life based simply on an idea and is an activity “of the people”. It is also defined by those who participate. If enough people become dissatisfied, there is nothing preventing vc’ers from recreating the process on their own.
  4. These...most of these...were good suggestions. As a new gc'r, this was one of my biggest questions. THANKS!
  5. Please...I'm just asking a question here, not trying to be critical. I don't feel that I have enough time in the sport to offend anyone, but I will admit that the quick, seemingly out of hand disapproval did deflate my enthusiasm for gc’n a bit. BTW: The vc’s were in public areas - i.e. historical sites, on public streets - that could not be blocked off or "shut down". I was careful, given that I would not be able to return often, to make sure that no one seeking the site would be denied access or disappointed. I think that gc'n is a really cool activity for me and my son and only want to see it grow. Thanks in advance for the constructive criticisms and/or explanations.
  6. I’m new to gc’n and don’t want to seem to be WHINING, but would like to propose this for thought and feedback. I’ve recently moved to an area with few gc’s and in the hopes of increasing interest proposed some vc’s. These vc’s were found en route to visit relatives in locales where I could not easily return to maintain them. They were, of course, rejected under the new stringent standards. My question is simply: although I understand the preference for gc’s, are vc’s not better than nothing in new areas?
