  1. Thanks for the video. Hope to be out there in late May to do the Trail of Phobia. Roads look in good shape. Are there any areas that are tricky?
  2. I don't think that a full and definitive answer has been offered by the NGA or whoever was responsible...If it has I haven't seen it. My (purely speculative) impression just knowing some of the players is that they had permission but it was for some reason withdrawn after it was set up. Put up the walls and remain silent rarely works well for wayward politicians, perhaps they believe that it will work better for them. Or maybe they answered and I missed it. Either way, at this late date I expect we've gotten all the answer we're going to get. So TAR, when are we going to enjoy the family-friendly version of this story on The Online Geocacher? And CF, yes the trip is still on and you are welcome to come. But, you may be as there will be stops for other trails that are not archived and we might stumble across a few that aren't ammo cans
  3. And certainly no overtime is paid! Its fun, very time comsuming, yet fulfilling. The event team is the most important aspect of any bid. The first question asked being, can they pull it off? Being that there is a fine line between confidence and cockiness. I'd like to say that we're confident our group of volunteers has what it takes to ensure the event would be a success in our area. Not only would we be honored to host it, we would consider it a priviledge. As far as the time investment, well... you said it all with "....yet fulfilling..." We are aware of the time commitment and are prepared for it. BUMP! Back to the front page.
  4. Even IceCreamMan loves Panama City and Bay County.
  5. LionsLair has already started the ball to rolling with spreading the word and some of the rest of us will be doing the same.
  6. We have a great group of cachers in this area that would be enthusiastic about working on this event. I am certain that we could draw from the states around Panama City as they migrate here for vacations and visits often. Please give us consideration and we will be happy to show you the diversity that this Panhandle location has to offer.
  7. And Social Securty will be going away too. As long as the US Government exists a way will be found to fund these "sinkholes of spending". <And now I will brace for the crap throwing>
  8. I tried searching for previous discussions on this subject but was not able to locate any. Therefore I will ask my question: "What constitutes a buried cache?" I have read and understand the wording on GC.com with regard to this subject, but I am interested in what some of you think buried means. For example is the spreading of twigs or leaves over a container burying it? If not, then what about a little bit of dirt or earth over a container? If not, then how much does it have to be before it is considered buried. If you can please provide some of your experiences with reviewers. I am sure we have all had our jaws dropped when we finally discovered where that elusive container has been placed in some situations. Please don't let this get carried away with personal comments about individuals but just stay with the definition of buried.
  9. If you are going to stick with this sport, then the $30 for the premium membership is only the beginning and the least amount of the $$$$ that you will invest. It is well worth it.
  10. Another happy report on setting up my new nuvi 650 and it is working flawlessly after I stumbled through the instructions . Thanks for the good work. Maybe my kids won't worry as much now about me watching my gpsr or reading my PDA or looking at the maps program on my laptop while driving. At least the nuvi remains in my line of vision while navigating Great job !!!
  11. Could you please clarify when the voting will end, date and time? Thanks.
  12. Why can't they give us some information? It might help us to be more patient.

    My Account page

WHERE do you get that information?
  14. I have one of the covers that came with my Dell PDA. After wearing it on my belt for a period of time I noticed that my credit cards in my wallet could no longer be swiped. It does not effect the performance of the PDA, but it will any other material.
  15. Ok, maybe it is not often that someone is the ONLY person that responds to their post and idenifies the solution. Well, here is the solution if found. NO, it is not throwing the computer in the garbage and starting over. I received a request to update Adobe Reader and did so. Some time after it loaded I went to GC.com and Google Map Search now works properly. I don't know why, other that some portion of the prior version must have gotten corrupted. Go figure. PWCinPC
  16. That is the EXACT problem I am having. See post GOOGLE MAP SEARCH for more description. PWCinPC
  17. I have recently incurred problems on my laptop with the Google Map Search feature on a cache page. It brings back a blank screen and indicates that I need to upgrade to a Premium membership. I am a Premium member paid up until October 15, 2008. On a second laptop I can view the maps fine and see all the caches in the area. I am running Windows XP on both laptops but the one that will view properly has IE 6.0 and the problem is suddenly occuring on the laptop with IE 7.0. It used to work properly but suddenly I am having the view issues. Is it possible that some .dll file or something is corrupted on one computer and what would that be. I have restarted IE several times and even re-booted but the map screen still does not appear as it should. I am also having problems view websites that require ActiveX controls and have re-installed it. What have I done???? PWCinPC
  18. Geez, I have two new caches to write up. Whay is the server so sssssllllllloooooooowwwwww? PWCinPC
  19. Great cake!! Bad spelling!! Hurry and eat it before your nephew realizes it.
  20. I own a Dell AXIM51 use GPxSonar on it. BUT, I download from GC.com using GSAK and then convert to a .gpx file format for the Dell and GPxSonar. I am not a computer specialist and just worked with it until it worked properly. The rewards of paperless caching are wonderful. PWCinPC
  21. Well, you are a quick learner. To answer the question above it is been suggested by some others that you spend some time in the manual to learn how to enter Waypoints. Once you do that and retrieve the waypoint screen you will notice it has an ICON in the upper left corner of the screen. To change it to a CACHE ICON all you need to do is toggle to that section and cover with the cursor. Press ENTER and that should bring up another menu that shows all the ICONS available in your unit. On the second row of my selections under the heading OUTDOORS is the ICON for a GEOCACHE. Then when you find the cache and press the FOUND button it changes it automatically to the open cache and places it on your calendar. Neat huh? Hope that helps with this question.
  22. I have purchased 3 GPS units from TigerGPS.com and have had complete satisfaction in each case. I can only speculate that when ordering on the phone something may have been misunderstood or mistated that led to the error.
  23. I will take a shot at this as I own a 76CSx and 60CSx which have the same functionalities. To begin with when you enter the coordinates you should save them as a Waypoint or Geocache preferably with a name or some title by which you will recognize. Then you will press the FIND button and select either Waypoint or Geocache depending on what you saved it as. Then you can search for the title by name, cover the name with the cursor marker, then press select. Then in the bottom right corner of the screen you will see the GOTO choice which you should select. Move to the compass screen and it should point in the direction you should go and depending on the other information displayed at the top of the screen, it may give you the DISTANCE, ETA, etc. You may change what is displayed on this screen by pressing the MENU key and choosing to change the items displayed. I hope that is not too much information at once and that I have adequately answered your question.
  24. Very interesting question which I have often wondered about others. Yes I carry a snub-nosed (hammerless) S&W 357 loaded with P+38s when I am in remote areas. I do have a concealed weapons permit issued from Florida, but have been fortunate to never have a need to use it. But then I also carry a roll of toilet paper. I guess that is in case I ever have to shoot someone or something that would endanger my safety. But then I also carry a pocket knife and a whistle to blow if needed. And I would use any of the four items if necessary.
