  1. I've done this! I used a rather large ammo box and a smaller 30 caliber camo'd, stenciled, and gift-wrapped ready for the FTF inside the big one. It still took a month for FTF! I keep checking to see if they hide a cache with it. That was back in July and no hides yet.
  2. Didn't know this old thread existed. I have 200 caches that range from .3 to 40.9 miles from home.
  3. Yeah, that bugs me sometimes too. I'm currently in the 9.34/1 club. If you asked me a year ago I'd have to say 16/1. I've got the hiding bug just enough that my planning isn't as great as it should be. I could see it getting out of hand real easy with cachers placing 10-20 a week. Fortunately, I'm not quite to that level.
  4. Sadly, one of my Lookout caches was archived today. The owner of the property doesn't want to be liable if anyone tries to climb the tower.
  5. How serious have land owners been in your area about unwarranted caches? Edit for spelling...
  6. Unfound caches in Oregon (age 30 days and up). Right now there are 39 on the list.
  7. Update: Almost as if the local caching community was tuned in to this forum discussion one of my puzzles recorded 4 finds just today. 3 of the finds were from brand new cachers. I guess I'll have to leave 'em up for a while and see what happens.
  8. I try and use geochecker.com for every puzzle cache I create for that very reason.
  9. I have a cache that's been out since August, 2005. 3 finds so far and only one is from Oregon.
  10. Yes, you raise a valid point. I get very antsy when the cache hasn't been found for several months. My fears were confirmed once this spring when the puzzle cache went missing. I replaced it right away and it's been found only one time since.
  11. Never is a bit of an exaggeration! Now, I do have 5 caches that have NEVER been found, but none of them are puzzles.
  12. I've got a couple puzzle caches that have been in circulation for 3 years now. They're right in town and take only a few minutes to solve from home. The first couple years they were getting a dozen or more finds per year. This year is half over and I'm looking at 1 find per cache. I guess the new breed of geocacher doesn't fancy the puzzle aspect of the game. Maybe it's time to close 'em down. Thoughts?
  13. Just a quick note with a happy ending, The coin was picked up over the long weekend and is on its way to Tennessee. Also, two of my other unfound caches were recently found as well and bugs are moving again...
  14. Still up for grabs. I'll throw in batteries and priority shipping in the States. Also accepting best offer. $50 OBO
  15. Yep, that's the one. Edited in my honor just today. Kudos to him for taking the advice from my reply: "As an owner myself of travel bugs and geocoins I can attest that things don't always work perfectly. I have one that was supposed to go to New Mexico but seemed to go everywhere but there! Also, I'd suggest making your goal a little clearer for this coin. A quick glance at the goal won't alert people to your wishes."
  16. If you're willing to wait for a deal to pop up on ebay you can score some big units at low low $. I picked up a Legend C with 100 miles logged on the odometer, in other words like new. It blows away my Explorist with added features such as mapping and computer connectivity. Got it for $55 AFTER shipping INCLUDING MapSource North America.
  17. I placed a new cache last month in a semi-remote area and with summer coming on I thought why not place a geocoin as it's always a fun thing when placing a new cache. Well, 3 weeks have gone by and no FTF. So today I receive an email from the owner of the geocoin telling me thanks for letting his kids down, etc. etc. and basically chewing me out for placing my cache with malicious intent. Is there some trackable etiquette I disregarded here? His goal for the coin simply said, "Please don't keep this coin. We would like it to travel North America, from cache to cache."
  18. Comes with box, manuals and GPS receiver. It's in very nice shape. This is a handy little unit and has great features for an inexpensive starter. I have had no problems finding caches and I've hidden a dozen or so with this unit. $50 shipped.
  19. Well that's certainly sheshul. I think you mean sheshul special. It just seems like a whole lot of trouble for $4 cans when local stores sell 'em for $4.95. Please don't presume to know what I think, I typed what I meant. While it may be alot of trouble for you it certainly isn't for the rest of us who don't know a store manager and are paying anywhere from 7-8 bucks a can. Goody for you though. I was actually hoping that was the case. Just wait till my wife sees me use that one on a double word score! Wow, $8 for an ammo box? Glad I don't live in the city.

  21. $4 sounds a bit steep when I can get them locally at $2.20 each. Of course, it helps to know the store manager who gives them to me AT COST.
  22. How about nine cache hides with absolutely zero finds! Yeah, Don't I know it
  23. I've only heard of this policy in wilderness areas. 72 hours max for any caches of gear, tools, geocaches, etc.. Permission is still possible in some instances but becoming rare.
  24. Perhaps we should make our ignore lists public. That way if we stumble upon a cache that we're not quite sure about we simply check to see if a cacher or two is ignoring it. Then we know.. not for me. The question is.. would a cache owner take it personally if most of his caches all of a sudden had 100 ignore lists associated with them?
  25. Excellent question! I usually phrase it, "If this was the first cache I found, would I have bothered to look for another?" You can quote me on that. That's a great question that a lot of people should ask themselves! I've learned to ignore all caches from people that hide caches that like. It takes awhile to ignore them all but it's worth it. If I don't like what they are serving then I'm certainly not going back for more. I pray that you, BS and CR ignore my caches if you are ever in the area. I simply don't feel like being bothered worrying if you will like them or not. Therefore, I don't think you should take the chance. Just assume that they are not for you and move along. Your two active hides must be real stinkers.
