  7. I've been lurking, just wanting to post that I'm interested in these too. Also since it has to be trackable to be on the forums (I think?) you could just side engrave tracking on 1 coin, once purchased it comes with 5 bonus swag/coins in a set ! And I'd rather that outter rim be raised metal (since you can't use glow anyways right)? More area to see the trans by metal, so basically post 36 is my preference! Also, you could keep some dots on that edge and press them "down" too, to show how the different metals look in an area down pressed in metal (copper vs. antique copper for example, the antique'ing will fill that down area with blackish stuff). Just a thought!
  8. I asked my mint if I had to stick to the 24 translucents and they said they can technically mix any pantone color as a translucent with the disclaimer that only on the 24 colors do they gaurantee stability (as in they do not change over time with exposure to light). Might be fun to try! I would go in on a translucent coin of every translucent (or at least 1 silver'ish, 1 gold'ish). ~Tim
  9. I use a poly 00 mailer, and the trick is when folding it shut...to "double fold" the end, which causes 4 layers of bubble. That makes the end over 3/4" thick. Sneaky, thrify, easy, and probably a bit annoying to USPS heh. ~zel
  10. Yeh you gotta buy the rights to put that on goods if its from a stock shop. But after that, yeh thats a pretty cool design. I second what Jackalgirl said about the multiple recessed levels of metal (rather than outlining each shade with metal).
  11. TapTap...TapTap...TapTap... "TapTap BLINGBLING the gold toothed (teethed?) geckomeleon geocoin" will make it your way. No really...a coin like this does really deserve such a long name. Anyhow I figure that version would fit this event the best! It might go for negative value though...he really is disturbing...the x's on the teeth are the tracking code I tried so hard to make it to thy flea market, next year my son will be 3 so it will be much "easier" to attend! I'll send you some other stuff too (Tribal Sun set).
  12. Hello, I haven't updated this post in awhile so I figured I'd give one for those not following on facebook! Current Status: Mint Art 95% complete. I expect samples in a few weeks and production run complete sometime in July. You can tentatively reserve by posting in a facebook thread here. More details to follow after I get the samples. If you are not a facebook member feel free to IM/email me your email address and I'll put you on the tentative list (you can pick version & quantities a little later). Special Edition Notice: It's worth mentioning that there are going to be a few versions (taptap for the cure, taptap blingbling, and taptap artist edition) that will be just run 20-25 each. This means that the first 20-25 comments on that facebook thread get priority on picking them. Its my goal to get 100 facebook fans this year so I'm running some exclusive stuff to those folks cheering me on! Attached is the the current mint art. The orange sunburst design will be recessed metal with a transparent surface fill. The front/ground (green in the art) and back will also be transparent fill. The body figure and paw print (foot print? toe prints?) will be imitation hard enamel. Note: There have been a few minor revisions since this, they are on my facebook page (see sig). Thanks, Zelanzy
  13. Best advice I could give is to use a photo in the design of the coin, but then send along the highest resolution image of the same photo by itself along as well. It can make a tremendous difference in overall quality and speed to completion of the project. Noted, the person I'm making the coin for had a pro photographer take the stills we'll be using. She has full commerical rigths (lol the disclaimer of the week!) and super high resolution ones (she is a renaissance festival performer). I would not have thought to send the super high res images!
  14. Wow, that was a whirlwind read! Thanks for linking it, I'm not sure it's directly related to the issue in this thread (which is more about rights, less about artist contractual obligations) but it certainly was helpful to me. I've been contacted to do some designs lately and am pondering if that is something I'd ever be interested in doing!
  15. What if I take a picture of a soup can (trademarked) and screen print it large in 3 colors? You'd think it violates copyright/trademark...but it didn't (because campbells dopped their lawsuit against warhol). What is funny is that Warhol copyrighted those! Point being...copywright law is determed at the end of a lawsuit, not before. There is no clear defination, law by its very nature, is gray. That is why there is court, to make black and white out of the gray laws. Fun fact: soup sales surged during warhol's release of his soup can prints!
  16. Hey Tiki, so maybe I missed it but how do you get the tracking number on the coin? Do you handwrite it? Great coins by the way! This is just genius!!!
  17. can anyone upload a picture of this item? or tell me where online i might be able to see it? thanks. EDIT TO ADD: nevermind,...i found the picture at cointracking.com, very nice 3D likeness. Thanks for your edit, found it too. Nice profile example! And I have 3 Neptunes, not sure how I forgot about it! Thanks for the "working experience" notes too tsun! I will have a photo to work off of, so that should help. My "Plan B" is to go "warhol" on it (6 color screen print). This is for a working performing artist for her to sell at her booth, but I'll side mold/engrave some tracking codes for a smaller release to geocachers.
  18. Very helpful! So mainly 3d molds. I wonder if anyone has done this in 2d? I guess by its nature that would make it more "cartoony" looking. Thanks for the posts!
  19. Is anyone aware of any geocoin showing a human face on them, in 2d or 3d? I'm trying to figure out the best way to achieve this! thanks much!
  20. This is a GREAT design, thanks for sticking through it all!
  21. I draw, scan, import into illustrator and then create vector art which I send the mint. Many folks just hand draw, scan and some mints accept that. Whatever floats your boat!
  22. Someone find this man a live monkey! This thread is pure GOLD!!!
  23. Thanks so much for your kind words. I'm suprised anyone likes this "being" I created!!! Taptap came to life initially for an animation in film school over 10 yrs ago. Fan club can reserve, more info later, in the meantime become a fan! See signature or click here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/zelanzy/272486720400
