  1. Well, in my area, I'm the only placer, so they're all great But in Shreveport there's a few, and one guy has done most of them. He's a pretty good placer, I enjoy his caches..although he's the founder of the controversial Namesake cache... -pizzachef
  2. My avatar doesn't show up anywhere but on my profile...it seems like it should under my name in the forums...just a thought -pizzachef
  3. I had a Mag Blazer 12 before my 320, which is just the marine versoin of the 315...and it seems like the 320 takes a while to "catch up" to where I am. For instance, if I'm walking and stop suddenly, it takes a minute for the gps to show my actual position...which leads me to believe that the position on the screen, when moving, as really just a little behind me. And that makes sense...but it seemed like on the Blazer 12, it was quicker on the "catchup". Other than that, it's a great little unit, and the 3.15 firmware update has been working great. -pizzachef
  4. I did find myrealbox.com...thanks kdave. I'll have to check out excite, and there's another: hotpop.com. it looks similar to myrealbox. Thanks -pizzachef
  5. quote:Originally posted by the tapir: Heaven forbid a company should *charge* for a service they offer! The greedy swine! BTW, does this have something to do with geocaching? the tapir Well, the part I was mostly upset about is that they OFFER you a free service, and then start charging. If they had stated something about a free introductory period, I wouldn't be complaining. And my yahoo email address is my main geocaching address...so it's got a lot to do with geocaching Actually, this is the only place the question would fit, and since we are a community, I trust the opinions of fellow geocachers on non-geocaching topics. -pizzachef

  7. Has anyone else recieved the notification email from Yahoo! stating they will no longer be offering free forwarding and POP3 access after April 24? That's the whole reason I GOT a yahoo account..it said "Free email for life!" Now I realize that I still have free web access, but that's a pain in the goola, especially since I have a nifty email program that checks automatically every so often. I guess I could go on and on about building a customer base and then charging for perks, but I really don't feel like getting into it. Does anyone else have an email service with free POP access similar to yahoo? I have a hotmail account, but that's my junkmail account, and I already get too much of it there to try cleaning it up. If you have a suggestion or opinion or need a place to vent, please feel free. Thanks -pizzachef
  8. I don't think your idea is as flawed as it's being made out to be. If the scout ranch is like any that I've been to, then the area isn't generally open to the public, and people probably wouldn't go there if they weren't geocaching...or am I wrong on that point? The reason I bring it up is the entry fee and the idea of charging geocachers to do what they do best. But as Scott said, I'd have no problem with paying a few bucks to go onto private land to cache...and the anual/monthly pass is a good idea as well seeing as most people won't finish 20 caches of ranging difficulty in a day. As far as helping with the hiding...I don't see how the camp could keep control of the caches without "owning" them. I think it's fair for you to ask other cachers to help the scouts plan and place caches, and I'd be happy to if I were a little closer. Surly there's a few people in the area who would like to get out give the scouts a hand (trust me, I know how tough it can be to control a troop ). And as long as you put a big statement on the cache listing to call ahead, there shouldn't be too much of a problem with people just showing up. In short, I think you've got a good opportunity on your hands. An annual event would be great...it seems like there's a bunch of active cachers in your area. Amd I think anything that helps out the scouts is a good idea.

  11. Hey, how do I get to see the results of all these polls that I'm voting for? Or voting IN I guess...but is there a way for anyone to see them? or is it just for the poll starter's information and he's responsible for making the info public? -pizzachef
  12. Dang...Here I am trying to plan something with Rangertrek in Shreveport to try for Caddo got Goat, and Clayjar goes and finds it before us. Oh well, I guess we'll have to settle for second He must've swung by on his way to that dern Dallas breakfast thing they had...well, glad to know it's still out there though. So it seems like it's not accesible by a powerboat? -pizzachef

  14. I've got the bars and my house in my gps, and I can work it in my sleep almost...I figure that's about the same as being fall-down drunk. All the same, it would be cool to have a voice-activated wrist thingy like that. -pizzachef

  16. This is a picture of a geocache plunderer: Read the owner's latest log of this cache for details...turns out two kids semi-plundered this cache, used up most of the pictures, took a bunch of goods, and returned the camera. Smart kids huh? -pizzachef
  17. OO! OO! Look..I'm selling a Magellan Blazer 12 here. Have a look...here's the Magellan site for it. Even if you don't want this model, I'd go with a Magellan...they're not as "flashy" as the garmins, but I think you get more for the money. I'd say the garmins are like macs and magellans are lilke pc's...hope I don't get beat up for that -pizzachef
