  1. A word to the wise here...... THINK.......... who were the last few people that you KNOW saw your coins (friends, neighbors, their kids -- it doesn't matter)? Now, when was the last time that they were there since you last saw your coins? You can see where I am going with this -- and I know your friends would never steal from you. As a retired investigator, I will tell you that the usual 'culprits' are: 1 - relatives; 2 - friends (usually their kids, or your kids' friends); 3 - strangers, in that order! Now, I am not saying that you should accuse anyone of taking them. Just that if you feel there is the slightest possibility of that, be more careful in the future when they are about. I sincerely hope that your coins are just misplaced, and that you do find them . Twenty-five years of asking a victim about who that last people that saw an item was, usually revealed the culprit (even though I was always met with "Oh, they would never take anything from me"). SURPRISE! Just food for thought. Good luck on finding your misplaced coins. When you are done cleaning/straightening up, I have a job for you
  2. Blueduece............. He is da man! Thx again
  3. Depending on size of the rock, etc., you could take it to a local lapidary (rock shop) and ask. Be prepared to pay tho, it's their living ya know. It is possible too, that a gravestone (monument) company could help you (don't bet too much on that, they are already plenty busy enuf). Best method is a water cutter using abrasive. Can be adjusted to cut through, or just into, or anything in between. Better yet, buy one and go into business! $2,500 - $10,000 depending on size/features (hence you see why you get to pay for the service, eh?)!
  4. Why not to. Learn something new (an smart, too boot!). Already edited my TB photos, at least the ones that showed the number. Will take precautions to not have the number visible in the future. Thank all.
  5. I've kind of dropped the subject......... but there seems to be some misunderstanding of what I was trying to say (originally). I wasn't knocking the tours, nor the way they were done. I think that is a great idea. On the "commercial" part of my original posting, it just seemed to me that somebody was advertising a "for profit venture". I may very well have jumped to a conclusion that I shouldn't have. Should that be the case, I apologize to any and all that I may have offended. It was not my intention to offend. When I mean to offend somebody, trust me, there will be NO MISTAKE in my intentions. The other part of my statement/question dealt with the adulteration of another's TB (addition of tag-alongs, or hang-tags, whatever one might call them) when they have nothing to do with the TB itself. A couple I have found almost look like a boot camp marine wearing a shooting badge with eight or more things hanging down that he/she is now "qualified" to shoot! My initial finds did make me wonder why they were there or what this other person had to do with the TB at all! Now I know -- still can't go along with adding something to another's TB, tho. I probably am a bit too idealistic , or whatever one might wish to call it. Now, I think I'm going back to raking my grass clippings before they choke off my wunnerful weedy lawn.............. Thanks to all who opened my eyes/mind a little bit more.
  6. Hmmmmmm -- It doesn't seem as it worked. The manuever did drop in the "link" name and not the entire website address, but it doesn't allow me to activate the link. Is it possible that I can't because I am the originator, hence the 'only' one that can edit the profile, etc.? Or is it that my grey-matter is just too worn out to grasp the concept?
  7. Hey, I think I understand. Wow! Never to old to learn, eh? Thanks bunches.
  8. Sorry, I meant on the profile, not on the TB log.
  9. Yes, but I also see informational links on individual cache pages. A different animal?
  10. Please bear with a not-so-computer-savy noobie. I would like to be able to create links in my uploads, TB stories, etc. But I don't seem to possess that capability (upstairs). When I try cut/paste, it throws up the entire (long) website address. I see others using a simple one or two work highlighted link. That's what I wanna do. A hint or two would be appreciated.
  11. Send her my way. Posting photos for TBs is one of my more favorite things to do in geocaching.
  12. Thanks Frank. Now ya gonna educ8 me? pleeeeeeeeeeze,
  13. In the past week, I have had to politely email folks and ask them if they had forgotten to log the drop or pickup. Two corrected immediately and returned an email, other one just corrected the log. Doesn't always work, but I suppose better than just grabbing it immediately. Some may have to travel a long ways home, or to another computer so's they can log the drop.
  14. I have noticed much more cut & paste happening. I thought "why bother?". It's not even an attempt to go through the motions. Maybe is why my few caches (as yet) are rather out of the way, not quite "stop & goes". It helps to avoid cut & pasters.
  15. Just for grins...... I went to Garmin.com the other day to see about getting add-ons for our older units. Garmin does sell their discontiued models. They work just fine. That way you can get into it w/o blowing 400 - 500 dollars. I use an ancient GPS 12, wife uses GPS 76. Grey-scale, not color displays. What the hey, neither of them have failed yet. (the GPS 76 FLOATS)
  16. Sorry, as much of a computer ignoramus that I am, I don't know how to move the photo here.
  17. http://img.geocaching.com/track/log/displa...7ce7640872f.jpg Owner wanted his wooden shoe photo'd with others. I had none. Think this will work?
  18. Methinks I may be one of the few....... My first find was before I knew enuf about Geocaching to get into it. It was one of those, "Oh yeah, I remember hearing something about this 'sport'". I guess that makes me a Muggle to boot, eh? At least one intelligent enough not to bother it. Before you ask, no I did not sign the log. Dumb me! Years later, here I be. Still a newbee. I/we love moving bugs and posting photos -- I guess just to make the owners happy to their bugs still alive.
  19. Nice one Snoogans. (Kinda reminds of WWII vintage: Kilroy was here) What does it take to get one of ur cool coins?
  20. does that cut holes in stuff? if so then you could get smooth river rocks or something and put your name on it or a symbol. that woudl be cool Previously mentioned water cutter will cut rocks, add more abrasive will cut metal. Also, can be used from writing/printing (etching, really) rock simply by adjusting pressure/flow/abrasives. Use your laptop to run the program. Set, forget and walk away. All in all, about $5,000
  21. Ya.... Point taken. Thx Awoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo................ Little red riding hood you sure are lookin' good........
  22. Ok, that's good enuf. It'll do -- do I really have a choice? Gonna upload some more now.
  23. I like taking photos of TBs during their travels. I think their owners like having them posted to the TB's page, be it with beautiful Lake Superior in the background, or just something cute. My problem is......... I would prefer to have the photos posted in the gallery, instead of "gumming" up the log page, but I don't know how to do it that way. Sure, the photos show in the gallery, but all I have posted also show with my log entry. A waste of space, if you get the picture (sorry). Hints or help for the computer illiterate, please.
  24. My first cache was a glad disposable container, with sticks and leaves epoxied to it (so lazy cacher's didn't have to camo it during a putback, I guess). Walked over it about six times, finally from a different angle, noticed one of the epoxied sticks had a cut, not broken, end. I thought it clever for the first find -- since then, after coming up with a number from the same cache-placer, I must say he is pretty darn clever with many of his hides. A number are in plain view of many, but are never noticed and even get quite a few DNF longs. Neccessity IS the mother of invention!
