  1. I agree with you wanting to leave a note to explain to those who may not know better. I never take anything from a cache unless I pop something back in and agree we should fill the caches with good swag for the kids. (even big kids) but "Theft" .... isn't that a bit of a strong word to use....even unintentional Theft?
  2. Before Geocaching I would be down in the cellar on my scroll saw. Or making Doll houses and furniture ... as I used to. I found geocaching as a way to get fit again after triple valve replacement. But working with power tools now would be less enjoyable as i have to be aware that being on warferin, one cut could be a messy business. also, I know now what i would be missing: walking out in the fresh air every day! I have been through a slump in caching over the winter, but now the sun is shining, more trails have been published .... i'm back out there again.
  3. 51 last Sunday, caching about 18 months & mainly cache on my own cause everyone in my family think i'm crazy!
  4. AFAIK nobody's suggesting you can't mention "the pub" or "the bus" - but I suspect if you hid a series of caches at bus stops and named them Stagecoach Bus Stop 1 to 10 the reviewer might ask you to reconsider....? When I first started placing caches, one of them was at a bus stop & the actual name of the cache mentioned the bus company. I was unaware that this wasn't allowed? our very nice reviewer 'Deci' kindly pointed this out to me and I changed the name. I don't see a problem with any 'rules' wether they have changed recently or not. I don't understand the reason behind not being able to use a pubs name, but if I've told I can't .... then i can't ..... big deal!
  5. How about this for a caching route? Not only is this a 101 cache bike ride, it is also in (what I think) is a most beautiful part of Spain. The caching trail starts at les Torroelles (not far from Roses) Passing through the Parc Natural dels Aiguamolis di l'Emporda, going around Castello d'Empuries and back up to where you started. Sadly when I lived and worked in Roses for over 18 summer seasons, I knew nothing about caching. Haven’t been back here in over 6 years, but plan to go back this year to visit my old friends and of course to cache till I drop. And this is the main trail I hope to try: Aiguamolls Bike Ride Nº 1 GIV -6103 KM1 to Aiguamolls Bike Ride Nº 101 One for luck! (I've checked this trail and there are plenty of campsites to break up the treck and rest) But if you don’t fancy a long, long bike ride: How about some coastal train caching? I used to ride my little old bike (with my tent in my rucksack) to Figueres and get the train from there along the coast to Salou. Stopping at some of the coastal resorts on the way. (I notice that these all have loads of caches now). l'Estartit, L'Escala, Blanes, Barclenoa, Stiges and then on to Salou. I can’t remember the total time it took by train to Salou, but it was about 3 hours? Getting there: Flights to Girona Airport are still pretty cheap, or just drive to Roses? (I used to be able to hitchhike there from the West midlands in 27 hours) I plan on driving there this time. I’ve been planning this trip with caching in mind.
  6. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=278b2a9b-d54c-4a4a-907a-ecdbaa44c07b&log=y&decrypt= http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=2442455 I have just emailed a couple of cachers that live near here to see if they can help. I'm off the road at the moment, so can't help myself right now.
  7. Don't worry, you'll learn CO = Cache Owner D5 = Difficulty 5 rating D/T = difficulty/terrain Learning isnt the point, there are many others out there that have to ask and ask and ask. If an acronym isnt in the mainstream world (not restricted to just geocaching then is the time to use them), when you expect new members to join, it is better not to use them. When I first started caching a little over a year ago I was felt completely lost seeing all the Acronyms, not only on the forums but also on the logs and cache pages. I once took ages trying to work out what BYOP meant thinking it was a clue or something. What I did is Google geocaching Acronyms and found this: Glossary of terms That site sorted them out in my head. Even after a year I still had to revert to this page.... but what i would never have done is demand that everyone talk laymen because I was a newbi and having none of it. How very rude you seem!
  8. Oh my! .... I just had a panic attack for you! Hope you have a great day, and all the best to you both.
  9. Well according to this it should be a 3 star, the location is flat, paved and close to parking but the container itself is very hard to spot even though it is out in the open and close to a marker. But the cache is extremely well camouflaged, hence the difficulty in finding. If the location is flat, paved and close to parking, wouldn't this just mean the terrain is easy? As for something extremely well camouflaged: A load of caches I have found have been extremely camouflaged .... but the ratings are no more than 3.0 This cache: Jeepers Creepers Really got me going and after two DNF's I finaly found it only because I leant against it by accident. The rating is 2.5! ...... If I saw a difficulty of 4.5 I would expect it to be REALLY REALLY hard!
  10. last time i saw you, you dropped your poor Colorado on the floor and said ... oh it doesn't matter i'm having a new one!
  11. Oh i must remember to use that instead of Tree stump or broken off tree! i just don't get the need for all this 'Clever talk'! The GPS leads me there, the 'hint' is to make sure I don't rip the place apart looking for it. (not that i would)
  12. Anything less than a gift token to the price of a new Oregon as an FTF award, is ... well ...basically very mean and not worth getting out of bed for.... if you ask me?
  13. I saw santa yesterday too but I never got to sit on his lap!
  14. No, I've not tried it with wooley gloves, they are Gore-Tex motorcycle gloves. I just tried it by interposing my wooley jumper between finger and screen, and it still works OK - I lose some of the accuracy, but that's all. Maybe try using a fingernail through your gloves to localise the pressure? Rgds, Andy Imagine if you will: An odd array of gloves laid out on the bed ready for my glove test. Okay.... My usual wool gloves (3 pairs of)...... TEST ......Nada! Thinsulate gloves..... TEST ...... mmmmm not bad? His motor bike gloves ....TEST..... Worked but I couldn’t see the screen! Hunted down my motor bike gloves.... TEST ...A bit better but not much My old Mountain Bike gloves.....TEST..... Wicked! Wow My fingerless gloves.....TEST...... Brilliant! ::So mountain bike gloves it is!::
  15. I manage the Oregon touch screen even when wearing motor-cycle gloves. Not quite as easy as it is without them, true, but not too bad. The only button I have sometimes to stab at more than once is the "back arrow" down in the bottom left corner, to return to the current position on the map after having scrolled ahead. Nor would it be very rewarding trying to select a waypoint off the map display . But quite usable for the most part. What I CAN'T use at all with gloves on is my iPhone. Rgds, Andy Is it just wooley gloves then do you think? Or do you wear wooley gloves too? I really can't get anything to work when I touch the screen ..... at all! ::Off to experiment with different gloves now::
  16. I love the touch screen on my Oregon 300, it makes so much more sense than turning a wheel! But .......... saying that, it is useless with gloves, no matter how thin the gloves are. So in the winter you could use your Colorado Hazels and use your Oregon 300 in the Summer!
  17. Wow .... that CO has an impressive find count and also caches placed in varied country's!
  18. As most mobile phones have a camera, and even some GPS's have in-built cameras, maybe more of us should be taking photos to include in the log? I know I'm going to try to make an effort with 'more caching photos' this year -even if I don't enter the competition. I really must try to get some good pictures this year with my new camara (not a posh one ...but...) I have to say: January, October and December are my faves of the whole year, although they are ALL FANTASTIC!
  19. I have read this thread with interest but ...... I'm still a bit confused. Why is it that on a lot of occasions my GPS has gone down to 0 feet and 'BINGO' there is the cache.... right at my feet? On some it goes down to 15 feet at the most and if I move in either direction it goes up .... so I go back to the lowest and bingo .... the cache. Then On some of the logs (of that cache), people have noted it was about 15 feet out? Also, when setting some of my own caches, people have logged that the co-ords were spot on (down to 5 feet or less) Again, on some of my caches i couldn't get a good average due to tree cover (my Colorado says 20 feet at best) these are the caches that other people have noted are off by a few feet. So why, if GPS's are not accurate do most finders notice the same difference in feet?
  20. I have! ... well a couple of them anyway .... the Library is always closed when I go past. The ones that come to mind are: A butcher shop, amusement arcade, a DVD rental place and the one in the library I wonder what crazy CO placed those?
  21. To reach 4000 finds by the end of summer 2011! ::Only 2940 to go::
