  1. Yes, yes, and yes. But there are those that are stealing them. And then those that hold them after retrieving them. I ran across a cacher the other day that had old jeeps that he quickly retrieved that traveled less than 50 miles and is sharing them with others. Some might say at least he is sharing, but what is going on? If no one wanted these worthless toys that you can but for less thann $5 this moron would have nothing, but it is wanted so like the PS3 he has something that others want and he enjoys hoarding them. Shame on him because he will not even reply to emails. Ok, now I did call him a moron and I have respect for the public at large, but none for ignorant geocachers such as this. I say good day to you sir, Gene of GOnTO
  2. A TB is placed in NM wanting to go to Yellowstone in WY. Ok here we go... First person that picks it up takes it to NV, Ok not really on course, but it is heading north. Now the team "theBrown7" takes it to...NEW YORK??? Now the "Justice League of NM" says “my TBs specific mission and include a laminated bug sheet with the TB inside a ziplock bag” which I presume states the goal. So why take it to NEW YORK??? “Thorminator” says “Well, it seems as the cacher will take it back west after logging it in buffalo”…clearly from the logs he did not do this and if he could not he should not have picked it up in the first place. “ICHTHYS” says “I think you are overreacting. The first guy to find it is not going to be the guy who drops it in one of the caches you have listed that the TB wants to visit.”…why is he overreacting, if you can’t complete the goal don’t pick up the TB. “Indotguy“ says “On the other hand making the TB's mission a near requirement for grabbing and expecting the mission to be strictly followed is, in my opinion, a little unrealistic considering the logistics of the activity.”…how is not wanting a TB to be brought to NEW YORK when it starts in NM and wants to go to WY being strict??? A geography lesson needed here? “usyoopers” says “To want your TB to visit specific caches might be a little unrealistic...I would just be happy to see mine travel”…here is the goal" The goal states “This big guy would love to visit caches and places in and out of the greater Yellowstone Area. Here are a few specific areas he would like to visit.” This goal does not limit the TB to specific caches, but it is clear that it wants to go to the YELLOWSTONE area. “q22q17” says “Happiness is not a destination, it is the road on which we travel....…”…so what is the use of a GOAL I need to ask??? “Harry Dolphin” says “Taking it too seriously? Definitely. And unrealistic as well…Yes, You're taking it too seriously. Most people do not pay much attention to TB goals. They just move them (if you're lucky).”…This is not too serious or unrealistic. Why shouldn’t someone expect a goal to be followed??? These forum comments never cease to amaze me. If you can’t help a TB along the way…LEAVE IT! If you pick it up by mistake realizing you can’t fulfill it’s goal PUT IT BACK WHERE YOU FOUND IT or as close as you can. You can also ask it’s owner what they want. “Couldn't resist bringing a Buffalo to see Buffalo, NY before heading him back out west.”…he could not resist taking it??? It is a very simple concept…RESPECT OF OTHERS! If they ask something, then respect it their wishes. If you don’t then this is nothing more than disrespect. You may not like the simplicity of this, but it is the truth. Good day to you sir , Gene of GOnTO
  3. I tried to contact a user "Kartenzwerg" about my TB "My Little Woody" (TBHZFY) that they placed in the cache "Sacrower See" (GCW8RG) on 10/08/06. The emails that I send come back with a message "Undeliverd Mail Return to Sender" with the following text: <silke.eggert@gmx.net>: host mx0.gmx.net[213.165.64.100] said: 550-5.7.1 {mx043} The recipient does not accept mails from 'yahoo.com' over foreign mailservers 550 5.7.1 ( http://www.gmx.net/serverrules ) (in reply to RCPT TO command) Now I have contacted this person in the past without a problem, but suddenly this has changed. The problem is that this cache is in Germany and of course the logs are in German. The logs may mention that my TB is not there, but I don't know. I've posted a note in that cache logs asking English speakers to give me an update, but have not received any replies to date. So can communications be blocked? Why do I get this message now when I have been able to contact this user in the past? Can anyone else try and see if it is just my address that is blocked? Thank you, Gene of GOnTO
  4. I will include this quote from the other site: "I am also very disappointed that there have been two earlier postings asking for this, DocDitto’s request on Sep 27 2005, 01:44 PM and The hermit crabs’ request on May 18 2006, 07:53 AM and to date nothing has been done. Both placed here where directed by geocachin.com. The May 18th notification without action is particularly disturbing." If rally you will, then rally please do. Gene of GOnTO
  5. I posted this in geocaching.com Web site earlier today, but I figured it was also worth a posting here in the Travel Bug forum for awareness and opinions. I was surprised to learn that this has been requested before, one almost five months ago, with no action taken. It makes sense and does not seem like it would be too hard to do. Why not? An owner of a cache moved my geocoin, or at least I assume it was him, to an Unknown Location using the Mark bug missing option. I do believe it was done a little early since it was only days since the cache was found scattered and there was even a log of someone picking up two geocoins on or about the day this happened. I’ve sinced moved it back to it’s last location to give it a little more time to be logged before I mark it as missing myself. The problem is that no note was attached to my geocoin’s home page related to this action and no notification was sent to me as owner of the geocoin by geocaching.com. In addition the owner of the cache did not notify me that he did this either and I had to figure out what happened on my own. The solution would be for geocaching.com to create a notification to the owner of the Geocoin or TB along with a log where the person that marks it as missing and moves it to an Unknown Location would have to give a reason why this action was done. Remember as the owner of the geocoin I was not given an opportunity to do this myself first. Gene of GOnTO
  6. I agree to the greatest extent and would like to say that virtual geocoins reallY are the most (place your favorite explicative here) thing. (I was banned for three days for using hidden profanity, I hope this does not qualify...LOL) If you want to keep it, keep it. If you want to share it activate and let it go! I will never again move another virtual coin. It will always stay right where I saw the little piece of garbage. I will add though I have seen some nice reproductions, but still it ain't the same. Gene of GOnTO
  7. Geocaching.com directs us here to post suggest improvements to their site. I notice that you also are a premium member. I too pay this to support geocaching.com so they can make modifications such as this to make geocaching easier. I was also surprised since I had a question in my post after almost 12 hours I have no reply from geocaching.com I am also very disappointed that there have been two earlier postings asking for this, DocDitto’s request on Sep 27 2005, 01:44 PM and The hermit crabs’ request on May 18 2006, 07:53 AM and to date nothing has been done. Both placed here where directed by geocachin.com. The May 18th notification without action is particularly disturbing. Why do I pay for premium membership? I ask again... Will geocaching.com read this and act from this posting or is there another way to give them this suggestion? Thank you, Gene of GOnTO
  8. If you type only the first few characters you WILL get a list of names. But once you type a wrong letter you're outta luck... This only searches through previous characters that you've entered and presents the list of those you've entered prior and match. This does not search the geocaching site and present a list of all that match the letters you've typed. I typed LAB to search for LabTrekkers and pushed GO it gave no list. It did take me to the email page to send a message to username LAB though. Gene of GOnTO
  9. This is a good question. I've tried to "Find another player" under account options On my account home page and if it is not typed exactly correct it shows nothing. You would think it would bring up a list that is close to what is entered. This would be usefull when trying to track a cacher from a barely readable note in a cache log. Like for when a TB or Geocoin is taken, but never logged properly on geocaching.com. We all put in our home coordinates so why can't there be a search option titled "Search for other Cachers" and list the search location criteria just like a cache? Gene of GOnTO

  11. If neither the TB owner or cache owner moves a missing TB an "unknown location" can anyone else do this? Specifically when it comes to Yellow Jeep TB's and White Jeep TB's it seems they forever remain listed in caches after the have long since disappeared.
  12. Send that puppy out here to Albuquerque New Mexico. They don't last long in the caches here and the comp to retrieve is still tough. It is a chance to win a GPS and new jeep after all.
  13. I noticed this option when I go into the detail for TB's and GeoCoins that are in caches that I own. Is this an option that I can choose as a cache owner if a TB or GeoCoin is not in my cache and the owner of said TB or GeoCoin is not doing the same? I've seen TB's and GeoCoins listed in caches that have been missing for well over 6 months though it is clearly noted in the cache logs as missing. I had to use this option for one of my GeoCoins that disappeared along with the cache it was hidden in.
  14. These are the two replies you got so I don't understand your reply: ---------------------------------------------------------- Get it back, grab it from wherever it's at, drop it into a cache. Good Luck ---------------------------------------------------------- You could also explain it to your friends husband and maybe get him into caching. If he's into splunking, I'm going to guess he's the adventurous type and should appreciate the concept of the travel bug. Maybe print out the bug's log and show him where it's been. Hopefully, he'll at least give it back to you. If not, e-mail the bug owner and let him know that the bug's been hyjacked and out of comission. ---------------------------------------------------------- What will you do next? Gene of GOnTO
  15. I was going to say "who cares", but then I saw this precious pic. Ok, for shots like this I will tolerate this string. GOnTO
  16. Thank you for your input, but what I am looking for is to purchase pre-made metal tags or to have them custom made. GOnTO
  17. I'm looking to purchase tags to attach to my TB's and GeoCoins. I've seen tags that state: MOVE ME TO ANOTHER CACHE I'm a "Travel Bug" Hitch Hiker I'm not a regular trade item. If you take me, you must put me in another cache and log my movement at geocaching.com. etc. Where can I purchase these types of tags or where can I have them made at a reasonable price? Thank you, Gene of GOnTO
  18. I'm sorry, How many coins to I have to buy to be able to post about them. Maybe one. Your bio show none.
  19. We live in New Mexico (oh by the way this is a state in the USA). When we venture outside the city there are no comforts of home and find ourselves miles from the facilities that city dwellers have come to love. We carry extra "paper" in our "ditty bag" for those sudden emergencies that sometimes come. Go for it my friend and let no one discourage you. <removed by moderator>
  20. You know, maybe you ought to release a few real coins and see how it works out for you. Strange how people who are the most vociferous about this topic rarely have much of an investment in released coins. Then again, maybe it's not strange at all. Did you not read the first post? Strange how some people will post a reply without getting all the info posted. Ignorance is bliss I guess. Vertigoat Member Since: Saturday, January 01, 2005 Status: Member...not premium??? 21. I will take one in the frosty silver finish. Gene of GOnTO at Geocaching.com
  22. I don’t think anyone is “demanding” this. What I think can almost be demanded though, is this: If a “coin” is actually a copy, of whatever form, it MUST be labelled as such. And this must be done in its NAME, not in the fine print on its page. Whenever this topic comes up I think it is still the case that the majority doesn’t like the copy idea, but most have come accept it, albeit through gritted teeth. I just don’t understand why, if someone doesn’t want to risk losing a coin, they simply don’t release anything. Getting an icon from a copy is like (add you own comparison). VERY WELL SAID!!!! []
  23. Just want to see this repeated. Also, like it or not, you can not control what others do with the travelers they bought. Unless they're doing something that will get the coin locked (replicators, virtual logging), there is no recourse. Demanding others release coins to be stolen is almost laughable . Keep 'em, guard 'em, and don't release 'em. That way they will be safe. Oh wait, you may want to place them in a safety deposit box. It's like that private art collection, good for you and no one else. Perhaps they can come come up with a way to keep the coin and still use the tracking number only it should not be linked to a coin, but rather a regular TB. That way people will not seek out the crap substitutes and owners will still get the use of a tracking number. Problem solved! Good day to you Sir!
  24. I think people object to placing a coin in a cache then it 'maybe' moves once and is then intentionally stolen. It isn't about getting the coin back, its an honesty issue. >>>>>Of course we all object. Again as previously stated "How many TB's have come home after their travels?" You paid for the tracking number might as well get some milage out of it. Otherwise, what's the point of paying for a tracking number if you can't see your coin move from cache to cache? I haven't released a copy of a coin, I don't like it, but I can understand why people are doing it. >>>>>Again as previously stated "P.S. Again I am not talking about reusing a tracking number after a coin comes up missing.
  25. \ At least you take the time to make some type of replica. What is with a piece of paper (copy) with a tracking number in a plastic baggie worth? I will add though when you release a coin do you really expect to get it back? How many TB's have come home after their travels? I know your not releasing it for some selfish piece of crap to keep it, but if we all can't enjoy the original coin what is the point? If you can't afford to share it with others then keep in your private collection. I'd rather see people do that then circulate some worthless piece of paper/whatever with a tracking number. I would urge geocachers not to move worthless pieces of paper with tracking numbers on it. P.S. Again I am not talking about reusing a tracking number after a coin comes up missing.
