  1. Check out this great interview on Geoscouting. Nice job! CBS Radio
  2. Great idea! I have been discussing a road trip to here for the past year. I would have a car full of family (and maybe another cacher if his wife lets him out of the house), and I am 20 miles closer than the Rockaway Mall, but we would love to meet up near GZ at the lunch spot. Either day is good for us on that weekend right now. -CK (and clan)
  3. Saw a biggun on May 25th at the Edison Mines monument (Sparta, NJ). We pulled into the lot and saw him sauntering through the woods a few feet in. Most of the group was walking the opposite direction, my wife and I were walking towards him to get a pic with my cell phone (no real camera with us, of course).
  4. Happens to be my zip as well. There are lots of caches around here. My local hides are quite easy - On Allamuchy Pond, Instant Access and Peter Parker which is a micro (now that's self-promotion!) If you want to do a few and like hiking, there are a bunch in Allamuchy State Park. A couple access points on Waterloo Valley Road will get you close to a bunch. You can start with this one You've Been Found and head up the rail trail for a few more finds. There is quite a variety of hides in the 5-6 caches along the way. These can also be done on a bike (mountain or hybrid) if you are interested. Good Luck! -CK
  5. Congrats to Crosby Stills and Cache on # 200 at Berserkr's Challenge. Glad Cheeriokiddie 1 and I were able to come along!
  6. You've spoken into your GPS like it is a cell phone while doing an urban micro
  7. Thanks for the input and encouragement Renegade. I plan on checking with the director if I need to make any special considerations with regard to mobility. I can always do another section for those who need it. Bottlecap - My association is SAAGNY - www.saagny.org - this is just part of what we do as our charitable community programs. We have done this event for Happiness is Camping for many years. We have plenty of people to help out during event day (July 18th). I think I can handle the setup with the 1 or 2 people I have recruited for the weekend before (July 15th), but always looking for others if your time permits. -CK
  8. Leaving in a few hours for a long ride. Been trying to generate a PQ of the trip as well since Tuesday. Getting the same errors, although not even receiving a file. Would love to know how to get around this. -CK
  9. Hi all- I am a board member for my NY area business association. We have a charitable foundation that raises money and stages events for those in need in the tri-state area. We have run an event annually at a summer camp in Blairstown for kids with cancer for many years. I have been asked to set up a geocaching afternoon on the camp grounds for the campers as part of our schedule of activities. We have purchased 7 GPSrs that we will donate to the camp after the event - as it turns out, they had these on their "wish list" equipment wanted. Geocaching is a natural for this event - it has always been a pirate theme (in fact, the kids always anticipate the arrival of pirate day every year) and we have done low-tech treasure hunts in the past. The kids range in age from 6 through teen. I will tell you, spending a day with these kids is truly inspirational and I look forward to being the every year. Basically, I am posting to solicit feedback. Here are my thoughts on organizing this....There will be 7 teams. I am thinking about approaching this is a 10 stage multi - 9 caches with coordinates (specific for each team - I will put a separate card in the cache for each team so that they are directed in different ways and don't arrive at the same cache at the same time - in theory anyway). The 10th cache will be a "treasure chest" with various goodies for all of the campers - we will make 7 separate final stages so that all teams find a unique treasure chest. We would get locking containers so that they need to find the right chest that they have the key for. Worthy of note - there will be an adult counselor and volunteer with each group. I am thinking of giving the adults clues to each cache along with a photo of the cache location as an absolute bailout if needed. Anyone have any thoughts on this plan? How about the difficulty level - should I keep it fairly easy, large containers? Anyone want to volunteer to help me out in Blairstown sometime during the seond week of July? Thanks in advance for anything you have to offer. -CK
  10. Hi all- New to the forums, but not so new to caching. Started 3 years ago almost to the day. Added 2 more kids to the family since then and that slowed me down. Now my oldest (of 3) is old enough to enjoy it with me so I am out now and fully engaged again. I am approaching my 100th find and was hoping to make this it - been watching it for a couple years. I'd be in for helping if it can be pulled together soon. -CK
