Is that a lifetime Premium Membership, or will he be kicking himself in a month for asking the question?

Well, now, correct me if I'm wrong, because 1) I seriously don't remember, and 2) I was a premium member for a while back there, but with the old maps, couldn't a non-paying member still scroll the map. Now, with the new maps, to use any of the functions you have to be a premium member. Now, this is just an example, and maybe a bad one as it may not be accurate. But my point is, as features become better and better at geocaching.com (and yes, I would agree that features are improving) is it possible that non-paying members will start losing access to more of the now-free features. Maybe some people will say I'm out of line for suggesting that this point be clarified, but I suppose the first part of my question above is the most important part of the overall issue. What features will always remain free?

The part of geocaching.com that lists some of the Premium Member benefits states the following: Are you going to charge us to go Geocaching? Never! The traditional Geocaching game will always be free. Subscriptions will be for new enhancements and new games added to Groundspeak. It takes development time and resources ($$) in order to make these ideas come to life. Not to mention the continuing hardware upgrades to keep the site responsive to your visits. My question is two-fold: 1. The first part of the question can presumably only be answered by a select few individuals (maybe only even one) who may or may not wish to clarify. What is the definition of "traditional Geocaching game" in the above paragraph? Is it the policy of geocaching.com that I will always be able to, for example, put in a zip code and find a list of the caches closest to me? 2. The second part of the question is open to all: What SHOULD the definition of "traditional Geocaching game" be in the above paragraph? Or asked a different way, what options, functions, perks, etc. of geocaching.com do you believe should remain free to the unwashed masses? Thanks, Pan

Yeah, for quite a while there I could write whatever I wanted below my Avatar also. Luckily I don't care much about either feature, because I imagine the scrolling issue will soon be remedied.

Well, the map page does have this text: "As a Premium Member you can zoom in, zoom out, and pan maps. Caches you have found are also marked. Visit the Premium Membership page for more information on subscriber features." As a non-Premium Member, however, (regardless of whether or not that sentence refers to "scrolling" as defined by the OP) scrolling of the maps works for me.

I can't believe someone would berate you for leaving something "not good enough", unless you did something like leaving a dirty golf ball and taking a brand new Mini Mag Lite. Upon cursory glace at the OP's logs, it appears as though there may have been some initial newbie confusion with the practice of TSLN (took something, left nothing); and maybe some potential item trading by the OP for travel bugs (meaning he may have left a travel bug, and taken an item). Generally, the OP should know that these two acts are generally frowned upon by the geocaching community. Trade up, trade even, or don't trade is a frequent mantra round these parts (whether or not its adhered to, well, that's a different story). On a more positive note, it looks like the OP has received some good advice regarding items for trade, and can move forward from his first wobbly steps on the geocaching stage. Welcome.

Actually, I'm not sure whether or not you capitalize is about grammar, or spelling. Seems more punctuation related to me. Anyhoo, on a more topic appropriate note, talking about the "fun parts of caching," spcifically "helping others with GPS units" and "newbie questions" have their own sections on the forums. So, with regard to those topics, maybe it will be more fun for you over there. Now, with regard to the "whining about how gc.com is run," I think there are valid concerns about the operation of the site, and it is the right, nay, the duty of the citizens of this site to raise such concerns. I'd even go so far as to argue that the raising of such concerns IMPROVE a site such as gc.com. I think I'd rather people work too much towards improvement, than too little. Of course, there is always a line to be drawn, and some people will always cross it. In closing, I say this: Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do... is ignore them - because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world...are the ones who do. If so inclined, could you elaborate on this point? My feeling is that over time, a successful competitive site for geocaching would more beneficial for the RASH.

I didn't ask if it was a major issue for people. I asked if micros should have their own type. I can't gauge the emotion for a person picking yes or no in this poll. What if we use alot of frogs. Hmmm... good point. Okay, how about this: One of the defensive players, not currently on the field or involved in the game, but certainly someone who is "invited to play along" at some point and time, goes insane, runs out onto the field, catches the ball and runs it in for a touchdown. Is it a touchdown? He was "invited to play along," but wasn't officially "playing along" at the time he ran the ball into the end zone. No touchdown for him.
