  1. Wow...some..ok ALL of these amaze me!...I am what you guys would call a newbie...I have 1 virtual and 3 no GPS finds...and even I know the basics of logging a find!...if I don't find it the first time I go out...I don't log anything...I will either go out the next day or as soon as I can...if I can't find it after my second try I'll log a did not find (luckily that hasn't happened yet!)... Some pretty amusing quotes in here though! -SixTen
  2. Well..I am addicted...so far I have only been caching without a GPS...but it has a hold of me and won't let go...the problem is I can't convince any of my friends or family to try it wih me I have taken 2 friends out...and they enjoy it...but are not quite addicted to it!...and my family...well, I guess my nephews would be the only ones who I think would enjoy it...but I would like to get a GPS unit before I introduce it to them... So, if anyone out there in the Novi, Northville, Livonia or Farmington area is looking for a GeoCaching partner...e-mail me maybe we could set up some small local trips with some others in the area -SixTen
  3. Just wondering if this happens often??....and if so maybe we can set up a special cache (use your imagination!) for people like this -SixTen
  4. Actually Michigan has a lot of Flamingos...lets see...there is a Flamingo Trailer Park ...who's theme is yes...Giant Pink Flamingos (fake of course)...and then we have the hideous pink flamingo lawn ornaments that some people think are funny (which can be funny only if you order 100 of them and have them placed in your "friends" lawn!) Anyways...on topic: I check them very often now as I am new...so I look through a lot of the old posts to see things that I may have missed...and I'll do a lot of searches looking for questions that I may have...so I would say maybe 2-3 hours per day... -SixTen
  5. I just thought it would be a cool thing to show everyones residence underneath the avatars or usernames...I have seen it done on other forums... I know it can be added to the sig line, but something like this would be cool: Thanks, SixTen
  6. Sorry about the poor quality...bad lighting in my room... I made the desk...the top is (8) 12"x12" ceramic tiles glued down to a sheet of plywood...makes a nice easy to clean surface with a different look to it -SixTen
  7. I geocache without a GPS (just because I haven't been able to get one as of yet!)...but it can be very exciting to find one just using a map and some instinct...heres what I do... 1) I am still very very new to this so I start with caches with difficulty ratings of 1-2 2) I read the description of the cache as well as the logs... 3) click the link (map) that takes you to mapquest to see where it is...in general, and note cross streets, names of parks etc... 4) Then I go to Lost Outdoors and type the coordinates found on the top of the mapquest page (lat and long) into the area for the map on the lost outdoors site...click 'make map' and you have an aerial view of the cache... If, from there, it looks like something you should be able to find...using some noticable landmarks, then go for it! I usually look for distance from the closest street, sidewalk, cluster of bushes/trees, any clearings nearby?...how far from these things is the red dot?...it's worked out pretty well for me If you can't seem to find it, then decrypt the hint...that usually gets you right to it! Good luck... SixTen
  8. Sounds like a good idea...instead of using the actual transparencies, you could upload the images to a site and give the web location at the cache...not sure how well that would work out with what you had in mind...but it would save on the transparencies... -Six
  9. I hear ya...I heard about GeoCaching when I was listening to 97.1 (Detroit, MI) over Memorial day...and heard a woman caller describe it...I though it sounded kinda corny...but when I checked out the site I was hooked!...I have not yet been able to purchase a GPS unit (laid off and still searching for work), so I found my first 2 caches just using the mapquest map and some intuition (Mr. Cellophane & Shasties First Cache). Once I get a few more 1-2 stars under my belt hopefully I will have found work and can then purchase a GPS and start laying down some caches of my own. -SixTen
