  1. Yes...people get burned out...check out this thread: Geo-burnt RK and others stated it as best as it can be put...if you stop having fun...find something else to do that is fun. If there is a reason that it isn't fun for you anymore...try changing it so whatever it may be (lame caches) isn't a part of it anymore... Best of luck
  2. It's a game...relax...have fun...don't take everything so seriously...you will live longer. I feel sorry for people who feel that their worth is measured on how many "meaningful" discussions/comments/posts that they create or comment on, or how serious they feel they must be at all times....make someone smile or laugh...it means a lot more. And to stay on-topic I shall answer the question asked in the title of this thread. No, AS is not dead...AS is more than a title of a now closed thread..for many people AS is...well...something that can't be explained...if you need to ask, then AS was never alive to you to begin with...
  3. Nicely stated CYBret...I think that is what is being congratulated...not the numbers...not a hey look at me...I have more finds than you...what is being said is Nice work, you have done something X number of times...something that you really enjoy doing...yeah, a lot of work was put into it...but more importantly congratulations on taking time to get out...and do SOMETHING...

So the actual date of the meet-up will be the 19th right? (Pips B-day!)....or where we going to try to do something on the 18th too??

    Pip's Party

Alright Torry!....way to get this going!!! I am going to request that day of work tomorrow so I can make it for sure! Keep us posted
  6. I need a cheap one that still works well for Geocaching....don't really need it for much else...any thoughts/suggestions?!
  7. Thanks for that link Briansnat...I really enjoyed reading through the history and beginings of Geocaching...the development of how it all started is so cool to read through! Thanks again!
  8. Check with your local cache organization...or try to contact some of the cachers who have found it...they may provide you with some hints that will help you find it without giving it away completely. And yeah...I would also take Tirediron's advice...sometimes it helps to get it off of your mind for a while...then revisit it with a clear and open mind at a later date. Good luck
  9. I like that idea...it can serve to keep your GeoEgo in check.
  10. That looks cool...has anybody posted anything yet?...I couldn't see anything?
  11. Could you mail him a copy of the brochure? Perhaps it would alleviate his worries about all those mysterious visitors that he has no doubt noticed before in the lot. The brochure would explain things well, and you wouldn't be placed in the uncomfortable situtation of having to face him again I doubt that I would have reacted the way the owner did in that situation, but perhaps he has an employee who has been harassed by an ex that he felt the need to protect; perhaps he thought you were scoping out the place in advance for a robbery, etc. I'm not sure if that's the best way to handle it now...it wasn't handled well from the beginning (as Warheel stated) so the lot owner is irritated already by the experience...if you, or anyone for that matter, tries to explain GeoCaching to him he will most likely* not take a sudden liking to it...he was annoyed by the visit(s)...so the cause of that (GeoCaching) will most likely further annoy him. Had it been explained to him at the time it would have been a different story (not meant to be a dig on Warheel...I am not sure how I would have reacted either...) *just basing this on my knowkedge of human behavior...I could be way off...
  12. Nice!...I never noticed that either...thanks fpr pointing it out Set1c...and thanks TPTB for implementing it!
  13. Oh yeah...one more thing....I'm sure that no one at GC.com will get this rolling due to liabilities...so someone else will have to compile this list and store it somewhere...
  14. Nice idea Flask! Anyone welcome...but space is very limited (With Notice) Beer is always a plus No room to camp...apartment landlord wouldn't like that...but there is about 50 wooded yards between this apt complex and the one next to us...no one would know! One bedroom...so no in house guests (unless it's a cute 18-30 year old single girl/woman)
  15. I'm with you on this point...I would be interested in learning the reasons behind why some people drop out of here... But yea...I could see people staying away because of some of the whining and arguing that goes on in here at times... As for me...I take that as part of human nature...but the positive threads and members have far outwieghed the negative...at least for me that is. Sorry...I am relatively new here...so I can't really have missed very many people...including you...I know you are not alone though...I've heard the same of a few people. And yes, UMC is active in chat and in #migo chat (Michigan Geocachers Org.)...as well as in the MiGO forums (see link in my sig line).
  16. My normal avatar is: Which is a cropped version of: Which was my first attempt at the "fire effect" using Photoshop... I have also used the following: For Traffic Safety Awareness Day: For Cartoon Avatar Day: For Moon Landing Appreciation Day: For Cachemobile Day: For Chicken Day!: And my current avatar is in recognition of the Summer Olympics: All of them are originals...more to come...as the avatar days do...
  17. Congratulations on 400! I think the only way that you can get a total for the year is to go to your cache page, click show all caches...and just count all of them that you found in 2004...
  18. Doh! You're right, SixTen. The fog over the Glenn meadow has glazed my perception of reality. Now that I can see clearly again, it is obviously SixTen who has pegged the correct answer. You are now the winner of a free, lifetime subscription to Today's Cacher! Caption on. Yes...continue please! I shall enjoy my free lifetime subscription to Today's Cacher!
  19. It appears Stunod is the winner(?) of the "who is this" part. He obviously knows the name of the travelbug. Apparently he is keeping quiet about the name of the cacher to allow some others the joy of discovery! My caption: Dude, I'm Bill Murry...I'll give you my autograph for that GPSr. I am pretty sure I named him in my post...the first one...
  20. Sometimes the Travel Bug is just the tag...there isn't always an item attached to the tag...best thing to do is check out the Travel Bug page...see what the description of it is...if it's supposed to have an item attached to it, notify the owner(s)...if not, follow the goal...
  21. Hey Ethan...Fonzi called...he wants his jacket back!
