Good idea, umc, and glad you can make it! This is going to be one of the most memorable birthdays ever! You know I've not only never been to a caching event or meeting, but I've never ever met another cacher before! Are you sure you are going to be able to handle all of the excitement?! (don't want any stitches coming loose!)

As long as you use that word in there you will get hundreds of different responses...the term people refers to many many types.. Some will like the puzzle caches that require intense research to figure out the code...while others will frown at that... Some will love hunting for micros because "they could be anywhere!"...others will frown at that... Some will love multis because "You never know where you will end up!"...others will frown at that... Some want P&G's (Park & Grabs) because "you can park so close to it!"...others will frown at that... Some want to hike for 10 miles because "the view was so great!"...others will frown at that... Get the point? You will NEVER make a cache that EVERYONE likes...do it according to what you like...the point is for you to get something out of it...just don't make a micro multi P&G that you have to hike 10 miles to get to...because people will not like that! Have fun!

All I know is that it is the only thing about Geocaching that irritates me...it makes it seem like an "us" vs "them" kind of thing...I don't like it...

Do you really think the mods read every single thread? Thorin Pretty much have to. But, posting "dump" won't make us close a topic. That is an absolute last resort and only the contect of the topic would make us close it. Very very few topics would get deleted. We just don't do that. I was actually being sarcastic...sorry :\

Oh yeah...Pip...I had a question for ya...how far from Ft. Wayne are you?...because there really isn't a good way for me to get to Ft. Wayne (ie no direct route)...was just wondering how 24 is?does it move ok...cause from what it looks like, I would take 275S to 24W to 69 into Ft. Wayne...but the route that Mapquest gives me has me going basically in an L...94W to 69S Any thoughts?? Ps...for anyone who may be able to direct me...I am coming from Novi, MI (48375) ...in case you know of a good way to get there...

We might be able to make that if we had a date & time... With the group that will be in attendance....an informal "post-caching" get together is inevitable!

When a thread is posted to, (and I even think just read a lot) it moves to the top of the list in a catagory of topics. A catagory being "Geocaching Topics". As threads quite being posted too or being read they fall down the list as other topics are more popular and active. If you post to an old thread it will suddenly pop to the top of the list. Some times people will say 'Bump' in their post making it clear that they wanted the topic to rise to the top again. Conversely...I think that some threads ...instead of being "bumped" should be "dumped"... For instance...if you want a Mod to see an old thread that is of no use....reply with "Dump" in very big bold colored letters...this should draw the mods attention to the fact that this thread should be "dumped (closed or deleted as per the mods discretion) Thank you...this has been a Public service announcement for your own forum reading safety... -Six

Well..I am not sure about the technical apects of your question...I can say that I am sure a lot of people are going to jump on you for considering a cache that will be temporary... I admire you for trying to get a cache placed in an area that means something to you...and that you want to share that with other cachers...but as far as I know, I don't think it will get approved due to the temporary nature of it... When the coments start coming in from the self proclaimed experts....and they start bashing you for considering this...just ignore them. (and yes they will come) Keep caching and have fun

I'll jump on that as well... This is a game...don't let the opinions and attitudes of other people take away from the fact that this is a game...and you are supossed to have fun with it...yes I know some people don't seem to realize that...but that is on them...keep getting out there and finding and/or placing caches...keep contributing in whatever way that you can...don't allow the comments of a few people that are clearly the minority take anything away from you and your fun/life.

I've also seen it where a link to an offsite table is put on the page...that way you could use the 5,000 limit for details on the bug etc...and then link to a table offsite for the other info.

Great idea thisismeisthatu. Took me a while to cut through all of the posts here that have absolutely nothing to do with the question posed by the author...I think it's a good idea....let us know how it is received in your area.

I think it is worth it as long as you are enjoying the sport and the services that they make available to you...just the general use of the forums, the cache pages etc... I live near Detroit as well (Novi) let me know if you ever make it over this way

That sounds like a perfect plan Torry It'd be nice if you could make it also Trippy be kinda ironic if we ended up meeting at a non-Michigan event
