  1. well that is just exactly as it looked on my system with the bloated reader! not a background image at all - it is a frontground image cc\
  2. got messed up with the time out issues - this should have been posted here - tools => Grab Coordinates I click on Current Waypoint and it comes back with all zeros - I make a list with only a couple caches and click Current Filter and get all zero's so what am I doing wrong - read the help a dozen times and it still says the same thing - there seems to be two functions - a - to get coords into gsak b - to get them out of gsak can someone make sense of this for me? and ya - I'm trying to learn all the cool new features here <grin!> cc\
  3. duplicate - caused by time out errors - sorry - cc\

  8. I assume you have a PDF reader installed e.g Adobe Acrobat Reader? oh ya! 7.0 cc\
  9. I can't read mine - there is a big gray frog on the pages cc\
  10. I think you forgot to wear your pants under them - cc\

  13. I agree that a non-walking multi is a pain, and I don't like them and don't do them either. I might add that maybe the reason so many of you say your stats are low on multi's is that there are so few of them to do. It takes a great deal of time to layout and setup a good multi. Took me several weeks to do my last one. Anyone can walk out in the hundred acres of forest and hang a film can in a tree. How long does that take. Let's see, I think I can do that in less than 10 minutes. And how much thought do you have to put into and how much time does it take to do an 'ivy drive by'? Some of us like to do multi's and like Tahosa said, if you don't want to do them then don't. There are several very good reasons to do a multi. a - bring you along a whole trail - not just part way - to experience the feel b - start you at a specific starting point c - maybe I want you to see this trail and not go in the shortest way d - I did one that was set for safest parking one time e - puzzles have their own appeal and reasoning f - and sometimes for the sheer pleasure of making it more difficult cc\
  14. but otherwise it is easy - just don't read it! cc\
  15. you have to set the time properly in the setup first - that threw me off - thought it would set itself. after that it worked fine - cc\
  16. so did you get enough ideas to last a while? I got a few - cc\\ \
  17. I have the same GPS - it was a good choice. Please - not trying to be smart here. First, read the manual - you likely have - but sit there with the GPS and DO what it says. You don't have to do everything now - just the basic stuff. Then learn while you are using it. cc\
  18. Now THAT's! a cache! There is one at Lake Tahoe, CA - it is a visitor center for that area - go in and enjoy the cache - didn't even have to trade - great conversation. cc\
  19. I just placed one that is what I called a photo cache - coords take you to a trail marker (photo supplie) - go down this trail until you match your view with the supplied photo - look for the cache there. This is the link to the cache - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...4a-fcd0cd302d6a but it is not yet approved - give it a couple days to check it out. cc\
  20. EVIL !! I love it - check this page for the magnets - http://www.leevalley.com/hardware/page.asp...2363,42348&ap=1 now - as to the threaded rod - not too many of us have the ability to drill out a big bolt - and if we could how would it be sealed. So check this out - take a small sealable tube of any material - very carefully with epoxy or whatever glue you like - wind very small wire around the container. If you match the diameter of the wire with the diameter of the container it will look so much like threads no one will notice. Paint it flat black - or rust! and you have an instant bolt container. Glue the cap to the magnet and yer done. a word of warning on these magnets - they are very brittle and I don't think they will take much machining at all. Some machine tools run carefully might work. I was thinking in terms of threading the inside of the magnet. edit - I just measured a Buffalo tube - it is .554 inches - this is the knurled area of the cap - it could easily be shaved down to fit in the large 1" magnet with the .5" hole. cc\
  21. That's a great cache, I saw evansville on there but realized it was in Wyoming, not Indiana (I would have a shot at Indiana. ) Another idea I have for fritoman, is a variation of the multi cache. You place a number of stand alone caches, each having a bit of info for a final stage. I'm not sure what they are calling it, but I hear it's caught on in some areas. I own a cache that is a stage for a huge multi in both KY and TN. yes that is fun - check out this series I did - this is the end cache - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...1b-2c2977db08a0 there are 5 other small caches along the trail and they have to find the five 2" washers along the trail also to match up. took me a while to make this one - they seem to like it - save one person who is a friend - and had a mental block that day. this is the first of the series - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...72-fa2cf7240461 the only one that is a multi - you could map it to see the rest. this one had a strip of plastic magnet painted gray with the coords on the inside. Those label machines make a great clue maker. I put is on a chain link fence - it was really invisible after I rubbed some dirt on it. cc\
  22. I gotta tell you I don't usualy get involved in this type of discussion but when I read a statement like that It's all I can do to keep my head from exploding! I mean no disrespect toward you or your views but in this time of hightened national security the very last thing I would do is refuse a search of my person or property. I am not a terrorist nor a criminal...I have nothing to hide! Let them search and ask the questions. When they are done and satisfied and send me on my way before I leave I'll shake their hands and thank them for being out there watching out for us. If the PO seems to have an attitude at the beginning of the situation...so what! By the time it's over they may turn out to be a nice person just doing his/her job. I would rather have the police search and question me (and others) than turn my TV on to watch another 9/11 or worse yet look out my window and see it. My Opinion... T*B* I do not pick your posting especially except it was about the 4th (have not read further) and I gotta keepm MY head from exploding. While in some respects I do agree with you regarding the OP being so close the the Canadian border, all along I have been thinking of a quote. this came up on TOP of my Google search! " b franklin quote on freedom" - gawd Google is good! The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either. Benjamin Franklin Our rights are being chizled at daily. You know that muscle in the back or your leg that hurts when you haven't cached for a while -- you know what they say - use it or lose it? Well if we don't exercise our right we will certainly lose them. cc\
  23. The Meridian and Explorist SD cards are not very accessible, and I've never had a problem with that. In fact, I think I've only taken the SD card out of my Explorist two or three times since I bought the thing seven or eight months ago. Why would you need to take it out? Jamie because it is faster to load maps and waypoints by plugging it into a memory card reader/writer than use the gps as the reader/writer. Now that we have USB this is less of an issue but it is still a lot faster. cc\
  24. you might have the gps set for closest instead of alpha. cc\
