  1. The Race is entering its last month! Yeah guys, only 31 days left for the TB's to reach the Final Cache!!! Three TB's are reported MIA, one TB was picked up and not logged out, nor reacting on a mail I sent... That means that currently only 3 active participant remains. The current leader, TB Dan Dophin is galavanting the USA, and finished The Race ages ago! Interesting four weeks lying ahead...
  2. My handle is explained on My Webpage...
  3. I got mine from the US, no problems with shipping, customs, working etc. I had to buy the software - still cheaper by around R1500! Then I left it on the car roof, it fell off, cracked the screen. Bumped heads with the local importers that do want to fix it, sent it back to the US... Now I'm waiting for it to return - take a look at my stats - no caching for more than six months now...
  4. Here follows the latest: TB Voice Of Africa moved up 1 position to 4th on the rankings, kicking out TB The Globe Trotter (MIA). I 've given up on the cacher that took TB Stealth Racer, and handed it to a geomuggle to "place" in Time for Tea (a cache it never arrived at) and added TB stealth Racer to the MIA list. A tadpole picked up TB Paper Kings, and never logged it out (email sent, no response yet). It would be a sad day for if this TB also went MIA, as at one stage it was only 1.6km from the end cache! If TB Paper Kings does not show up quick, there is only 3 TB left in The Race - TB TUFULA, Voice Of Africa and Star Light. TB's have travelled a total of 14 338km, visited 94 caches (62 unique), with 36 cachers participating in The race. GlobalRat aided TB's to travel 5103km, and also lead with the longest lift (1264km, Voice Of Africa). Whostops, the owner of TB TUFULA, assisted TB's with 9 lifts! Most visited caches were Hilldrop View, KZN TB Hotel and Noon Gun with 4 racing participants each! The average TB spend 19 days in a cache, and takes 7 days to reach the next. 326 Days has past since The Race started and thus only 39 days remain for TB's to complete The Race Keep up the good work!
  5. DE KAT? I thought that was very much the Dutch for RSG??
  6. Hi guys...I'm back at the salt mines....Soutcoast weather was great for caching, but alas have not yet received my new GPSr (remember it fell of the roof in a freak accident....)....will update as soon as I worked through my 2350 emails (not joking, luckily only about 400 work related)...At least "they" miss me when I'm gone...
  7. To all The Race participants and spectators: I am currntly on leave and unable to update The Race until Mo 21 Nov. I am keeping an eye open to see if any of the competitors finished, but will be spending most of my time paragliding, kitesurfing, fishing and if the weather permits on the beach...having G&T for breakfast , beers and braais , sipping Pina Coladas ...you get the picture. Pleae keep up the good work...
  8. Some serious changes in the rankings: TB TUFULA moved up to 3rd. Two TB's are within 5km radius of the final cache. The tB's have travelled 14 257km in total since the start of The Race!, covering on average 1 782km each. TB Stealth Racer has been reported MIA. This TB was picked up by a foreign cacher, promising to place before leaving our shores. A friend supposedly placed this TB in Time for Tea, , but two cachers have reported it MIA. It would be such a shame as this TB was less than 3km from the final cache. If any cacher spots this TB, please inform me so that we can update. I have contacted the last cacher, and are hoping that he would respond with a contact number for the geomuggle currently holding the TB, or at least let us know in which cache the TB really landed . It would really be a sad day if 3 TB's would be lost in a race of eight. Remember that The Race is not finished until the TB makes a visit to the final cache, before or on December 31, 2005. Until such time TB Dan Dolphin, who is currently in the USA(!!!), will remain the leader!
  9. Very interesting indeed. Most of the ZA cachers have figured out that Africard and TB Hunter are related. He is however only 21 months old and cannot type yet. When I go out caching and he accompanies me, I log his find for him. He also owns a couple of TB's whick I administer for him. But when I go out caching without him, he does not log it. This way, by the time he is old enough to decide whether he likes caching, he already has a track record... This is not an ethical thing, or "The way it should be done", but a very personal decision on how I want to handle the situation...
  10. bear&fox, I dont know, but would like to know the current whereabouts of this TB...sorry I knw were off topic....back to this: Maybe we can use this to do a future race: Around the world first one back wins?
  11. Nice angle there Warthog. I agree that that would defeat the purpose though...where is this elusive Swiss TB?
  12. The Race is currently in it's last stages and most Racing TB's should be making a dash to the Final cache. The Race rankings and Update page will be updated more frequently to aid weekend cachers in logging their weekend movements... We are sure to see some really great racing action and all participants are glad to see the Capetonian cachers dashing around to get the numbers right. TB Stealth Racer has not yet been located, although being placed in a cache.... Two reported MIA and one TB finished thus far - Dan Dolphin. Have a look at the updated stats, as well as the rankings - At this stage The Race is still open to be won by any of the TB's!
  13. Yeah, I was in and then left my GPSR on the lid of my boot ....it fell and broke the screen. Now I'm only doing caching in front of my PC until the new unit arrives, with which our customs officials stuffed up the paper work etc., etc., etc., by the time the unit gets to me I'll have to go for retraining.
  14. Good Point AE Rodney. Have a look at the stats for the 2005 TB Race to Cape Town (posted as a thread, which also conatains a link to my update page). 2 TB's are confirmed MIA, one is in an unknown cache out of eight! The average days for a TB from one cache to another is 18days, from one pick up to the next drop off is 7 days, and this is in ZA!! 80 Days is a nice target, I'll be surprised if they can do it in a year.
  15. Know what you mean....unfortunately my two daugters (5y old Dobermann twins) are absolutely unruly and will try to eat anything looking remotely edible or threatening. Let's just say I can't take them anywhere! They once tried a cow... I do think that they would love geocaching...
  16. TB Paper Kings has moved up one position to 7th, and is gaining ground following his slow travel earlier in the year! One cacher is holding 4 racing TB's, with the outcome of The Race firmly in his hands! The stats are really interesting: have a look at it on the update page! (find a link at the top of this thread). 2 TB's are still MIA, and TB Stealth Racer cannot seem to make it to the next cache....will have to report MIA if this TB does not show up soon). This would really be a pity as he was soooooo close to the finish! Any TB that finishes now will kick TB Dan Dolphin, who is currently on holiday after finishing The Race in a record time, from the 1st position! All partiipants are eagerly waiting to see who is finishing / getting the numbers up next!
  17. No action here....for the second week now.... TB Stealth Racer was logged into a cache, but when Discombob went to pick it up it was not there...seems like it never was. Would really be a pity if this TB also went missing and that 6km from the end! (Contacted the last cacher to find out what is going on here...).
  18. Hahaha, seems I'm not the only one to find out that this "free" sport of ours can run up the costs severely: Day out at PMB to meet other cachers circa R450, leaving your GPS on the car roof and speeding off in a hurry to find another, R4800 (this was in PTA), getting stuck and using your 4x4 to get out, in the process turning the side shaft off (do not understand why or how yet..) R5000... Other goodies required to play, containers, entrance fees, etc.: R??? TB's lost / stolen / etc.: R250 Pleasure of explaining the extra cost on the budget and logging a FTF or 50th / 100th: PRICELESS!!!! As in the rest of my life: The cost of enjoyment and outdoor activities is not calculated for the fear of it being removed from the budget.
  19. Thank you guys for enlightning me - I'll be sure to open an account asap! I might even consider the EU coins to add the my absolutely gorgeous SA coin (which will not be allowed to travel without me!!)
  20. The plot thickens! Remember, there are prizes for TB's and participants and the owner of the winning TB will receive 5 unactivated TB's! I've just updated the Race Rankings page...
  21. You should say "Paypal is not South africa friendly"...
  22. With the exception of the 2 MIA TB's, all competitors have made it to The Fairest Cape. The last TB to reach the tip of Africa is Paper Kings, who was promptly picked up by another cacher! The Race is any TB's now and basicallydependant on local cachers to move around CPT and get the numbers right....Heard some rumours of hijacking... Will update the rankings page later today - keep a look out for the change in rankings!
  23. 4 Racing competitors made it to the fairest Cape, and the Race Rankings changed considerably. Only 1 TB is still battling to make its way down to the Cape, besides the 2 that is MIA... Full update on the update page.... The Capetonian based cachers are now in control of the outcome of The Race and a really interesting time is lying ahead in the history of The 1st Race....
  24. GlobalRat is now in possession of three racing TB's...we hope to see them set foot in CPT very soon! TB Stealth Racer is in the possesion of an unknown SA cacher.... That means there is 4 TB's in transit, two MIA, one TB stranded in Stainbank cache (come on KZN cachers - Rescue this TB and help him along, the owner is one of us!) and one finished in style more than a month ago!
  25. It has been confirmed that TB Stealth Racer did not leave the South African borders, but got grabbed by another cacher....
