  1. There is no process by which logs posted on Geocaching are "fed back" to the NGS. Rather, that user posted their log on both sites. Their photos are in fact available on the NGS listing: That link leads to https://geodesy.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/get_image.prl?PROCESSING=list&PID=KY2911, where you can see their photos. You can indicate that you found the benchmark while geocaching, as this user did, by selecting these options on the recovery form:
  2. Looking in the database, I see a total of 31,995 finds for you, 40 of them from 10/19, and no recently deleted finds.
  3. That is not correct. The NGS site allows photo upload, including a helpful categorization method:
  4. They are survey markers of any type, often brass metal disks secured to the ground or other surface. This FAQ from the US National Geodetic Survey gives more specifics: https://geodesy.noaa.gov/datasheets/SurveyMarks_FAQ.shtml Here is a photo of one I provided to the NGS recently:
  5. For those of us who enjoy benchmarks, you can still register recoveries directly with the NGS here: https://geodesy.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/mark_recovery_form.prl
  6. My personal stats: 26 caches 5,656 Favorite Points 37,161 total finds Cache types: Traditional - 20 Virtual - 4 Multi - 1 APE - 1
  7. Some other fun numbers: 9,719 active caches that are 20+ years old from the moment I ran the query a few minutes ago 5,203 distinct COs An average of 49 Favorite Points each An average of 509 finds each Cache type breakdown: Traditional - 6,859 Virtual - 1,948 Multi - 704 Mystery - 156 LBH - 35 Webcam - 14 APE - 2 EarthCache - 1
  8. Here are the current numbers after the fallout from the expiration issue mentioned in August: 358 "real" Charter Members (not Lackey accounts, test accounts, HQ account, or other accounts granted Charter Membership after the closure of the initial CM period) 363 total Charter Members in the database 5,399 original CMs (best guess) 328 current CMs ever owning a cache 11,995 active caches by current CMs
  9. I'm not 100% sure (I'm not on the mobile team), but I think it's anything that triggers an update to the "last changed" timestamp on a cache, which would also include new logs.
  10. Yes, seriously. It's called an A/B test and is a pretty standard method of testing out these sorts of tweaks.
  11. When I have seen this in my iPhone app, it's because I have a list saved for offline use containing caches that have new activity since saving - i.e. it's telling me that I might want to refresh the offline data.
  12. I'm sure that Google is aware that Aruba is in South America, but that portion of Google's map in their module seems to lump all of the islands in the southern portion of the Caribbean into one entity. If you hover over Aruba on the map on the statistics page, you'll see that all of those islands highlight at once. I suspect that it is looking for some designation for the group that it does not see when told to color in "Aruba." But yes, it's possible that we are doing something incorrect on our side of things. As for the response you received from one of our support personnel, you have to understand that they are relatively inexperienced and they are not going to be aware of all of the ins-and-outs of the technical side of things. The statement that we are "constantly working to add countries" is absolutely correct, though. Most recently we have added the countries that formerly comprised the Netherlands Antilles, South Sudan, Montenegro, et al. We also just changed the name of Turkey to its new name, Türkiye. That doesn't mean what we have is always going to align with Google. For example, Google shows Kosovo on the map, but we still list caches there as Serbia as that is how the UN currently recognizes that territory. As a result, cachers who find a cache in what is known as Kosovo will see Serbia colored in on their map while the polygon for Kosovo remains unshaded. Knock yourself out: https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/geochart
  13. The maps in the stats are actually a Google module. They rely on what Google calls a country (which is why the countries there don't match up precisely with what are available on Geocaching.com), it's why Asia shows such a wide view, and it's why Aruba doesn't trigger a find for South America.
  14. I'm not seeing too much to be concerned about in your area. The chart below shows non-event caches within 25 miles of your home area by month. It is decreasing from the high that was hit in May, but overall the trend is upward.
  15. It means a draft was created for that cache; a personal note shows with an envelope icon.
  16. Drafts are now available from the Profile tab (near the bottom just above Trackable Inventory).
  17. It appears that you created two versions of your Pueblo City Park Adventure. You archived the first on the day it was created, then created the second one (which you published) a week later.
  18. Locationless caches are excluded from stats, souvenirs, and the like on Geocaching.com for that reason.
  19. Have you created Pocket Queries from your lists? If so, both "forms" (the original list and the PQ created from it) will show up under your lists in the app.
  20. I suppose anything is possible, but that seems unlikely to me with the event just winding down - the CO is probably attending to other things right now. It's also unlikely that all of the reported multiple loggers would have deleted their duplicates all at once. Although I can't repro this on my Windows 11 machine (running Chrome), I'm guessing that there is some sort of temporary display artifact affecting the loading of the logs on the page when you looked before.
  21. It appears that this is a display issue in the Android app. I am not able to repro this behavior on the web site or in the iPhone app, and as I mentioned above the data on the backend is not showing duplicate logs.
