  1. Well, reviewers are only human, you know. Except for the ones who are dogs. Many reviewers are dogs. Which would be a reason #5 for using form letters, I suppose. Do some of them wear glasses?
  2. But it does. If the same mistake is made over and over by a bunch of people who don't read the guidelines, than that is going to influence the way the reviewers respond. I feel that although the reviewers are not perfect (and none have claimed to be) I would be willing to bet that in most instances, descrepencies and conflict are probably the fault of the cache submitter, and the response by the reviewer plays minimal or no part in it.
  3. No, I would not. Simple as that. Where can we read the nominated logs?
  4. I hadn't thought about #4. I like it, makes total sense.
  5. It was brought to light in said recent thread that there are no GS canned notes. Each reviewer may use their own, but no form letters from GS. I see no problem with this. The resposibility falls on the cacher/hider to know the guidelines. Read first, hide later. I did. No reason why others can't as well. I've found the "canned" responses I've gotten from my local reviewers very helpful and easy to understand. They're straightforward. If I have specific questions or issues, I've gotten very personal emails back that were also very helpful and amiable. Again, read the guidelines, follow them, and there should be minimal if any issues.
  6. I don't think anything we say will make a difference. I just looked and the latest cache appears to be a rock in a rock pile and the hint is a non hint. Oh well, I don't worry too much. I won't be caching in that area any time soon. Unbelievable... I think I'm spoiled. While we don't have many cachers in these parts, we don't have ANY that pull this garbage. All hides are perfect? Nope, but few if any I would call junk.
  7. I licked a frog I saw near a cache one time. I'm still not quite right...
  8. Bolding is mine. Are you really making this big of a stink over a cache that seems to be such a high quality cache that there's no description? Please don't just throw out some little container because you can. Put a little thought into the container and the cache page. If you aren't going to put in the energy, why should those who are going to find your hide?
  9. I think you got it. If it was a 4 then no way it should be in plain sight. Generally you put it back exactly as you found it, but if it's obvious that the cache owner didn't hide it that way, try to hide it in accordance with its difficulty rating. I have to respectfully disagree. In an instance like this, I would place the cache out of plain sight and then message the CO with the exact location it was placed. Replacing caches based on their diff level if you think it's not right is a hazardous practice.
  10. I wish they would do that with their movies. Their last two movies were not fit for small children. -Nightmare before Christmas -Alice in Wonderland. Before we left NBC because it was too scary I heard a kid crying and telling his mom that this is too scary. I felt sorry for him. Disney would never allow it unless they make money on it. I'm surprised that they didn't charge for the hand driers in the rest room. They will milk you for every dime you have. Been there, done that. I'm sure Walt would be ashamed. I'm really hoping you're not saying these were the last two movies. Nightmare before christmas is oldschool, and Alice in Wonderland was done by Tim Burton. Any parent who thinks a Burton movie is alright for their young kids either has tough as nails kids or should be shaken. Yes, I realize that NBC was Burton as well. Edit to add the above statement and to remove some unintentional astrisks.
  11. And just so you know, The Way was just down at the Valero on the corner buying a slim jim. No more seeking necessary.
  12. Currently, 5 topics below your post, is a topic titled "Peanutbutter Jars". Look back a couple pages and you'll see tons of threads on interesting and poor cache containers. Just a friendly point in the right direction. Welcome to the boards
  13. Gotcha. That makes sense. Fortunately, the last one that i left a bit of red lid exposed won't have muggles around. Was a pretty deserted area. i will definitely take your advice though and be sure to conceal with the concerns you mentioned. Thanks. You'd be surprised at what kinds of deserted areas muggles will end up at. Some are just natural explorers. Low traffic probably. No muggle traffic? There's no such thing.
  14. Are you talking about using a smartphone to geocache? If it's a handheld GPS and you put the coords in manually, it won't come up as a geocache, it should be under the waypoint menu. Try that.
  15. Yes. If you are giving away information that the CO would like for the cache hunters to discover on their own, then it IS bad form. The pine cone in the maple tree? Nope. Let the cache finders find that out on their own. There's a reason they're called 'spoilers'. Save the photos for your own files, but don't spoil other cacher's fun (and the cache owner's fun.) The same goes for cutesy comments in logs. If the cache description says something like "you're looking for an ammo can" and you add a picture of an ammo can, I don't see a problem with it. If it's an ammo can that's disguised as a log, and you take a picture that exposes the disguise, then yes it should be removed. Just make sure the pictures you leave in place don't have the actual location of the cache in them. Step away 5 feet and then take the picture. Leave out any obvious landmarks that give away a difficult hide. Any other pictures are pretty cool. I need to start taking more pictures so I can add them to logs. Enhances the experience for both you and the CO. Uh oh. i'm a newb. i added photos of the cache to all my finds. i figured that that was ok because you have to actually click on the link to open the pictures. Since it says something about 'spoilers' before entering the logs, doesn't that mean that there's a possibility that the log descriptions will give away the locations? Should i delete my photos? Any insight is appreciated.
  16. Helping with cammo in the exact same spot as before is okay (also just my opinion) but be careful not to cross the line. If you are surrounded by tree stumps, leave it in the one you found it, even if the rest are better spots. Don't move the cache from it's actual location because you think the other spot is better or looks like it should be there instead. When in doubt, put it back exactly as you found it and post a note.
  17. Thanks for calling me on my flare for the dramatic I figured you meant nanos or micros. I can just see digging through the jasmine at Disneyland for a small lock n lock and trying to keep it stealth...
  18. Well, first off there's the commercial/permission issue. I'm not sure that Disney would be thrilled with people hiding things in their parks. Not to mention the fact that in searching, not all of us are respectful of plant life, structures, and anything else that we're not supposed to climb over or on. They also clean the parks every day, and I'm sure they wouldn't like to be cleaning around an ammo can or tupperware every time. Then think about the terrorist potential for an area like that.... No, it'll never happen. Ever.
  19. I'm still not sure what the heck difference it makes what your buddy thinks.
  20. Please don't get into the habit of replacing caches. It's not your job, the CO may have different ideas in mind for a restoration, or they may just let it die. Not your cache, not your responsibility. It's actually pretty bad form, there's a reason nobody's done it before you. If you must replace it, there is no way to change the cache status, as you are not the owner of the listing. You could log a needs archive log to get the reviewer to contact the owner and shut down the cache if it's not taken care of. That would then open up the area for you to place and maintain your own cache instead. Welcome, and enjoy.
  21. Where's that emoticon that bangs himself agains a wall?
  22. This one would probably take at least that long in one shot. If all goes well, one of the stages will be on top of a big rock. It'll take a while to climb up and back down. That's one I've got to find out about permission for, I'm not sure if it's privately owned. I'm also not sure if how I feel about putting out pill bottles for stages of a multi in pretty cool spots that could sport their own ammo can. Ah, then what you want to make is a Mystery/Puzzle cache with a few traditionals to support it. Your final would be the Mystery/Puzzle and the traditionals would contain portions of the coords (or similar method) to resolve the location of the Mystery/Puzzle. Put a link to the Mystery/Puzzle on every supporting traditionals descriptions and expect more found its. Dude, that hadn't even crossed my mind. I think I just got my answer. Thank you O blue faced avatar that makes my dreams a little bothersome
  23. Good, Better, Best !! Meh, I'm thinking your opinion doesn't even count, given that you couldn't even follow the request in the OP
  24. Pill bottles -ick!! Almost all of those leak badly and make very poor cache containers. I rarely see one with dry contents after they have been out a few months. Bison Tubes? Water proof match containers? Small Lock n Lock?
