  1. That section is located under accessibility. You should not have to contact the cache owner or someone else to get access to a cache.
  2. True, but be aware that is well before the current guidelines, and before there was a reviewing team. It was only Geoaware reviewing all of them (plus a few from his office) at that time. I don't believe it would meet the current guidelines.
  3. Earthcaches are about education. Because of that the Geological Society of America finally changed their rules to not allow photographs, and not grandfather older ones. People were focusing on the photographic evidence and not relying on if somebody actually answered the questions on the cache page. Plus the logging requirements are set by the Geological Society of America and not by Groundspeak. There is discussion with Groundspeak, however the GSA makes the rules based on what is best for their educational program that they are trying to promote. Though they look similar it is really an apples-to-oranges kind of comparison.

  5. I am not seeing a rush at all. We have two in our state that are new. One took an old favorite that the cache owner archived because he was not caching anymore and recreated it. The other was a volunteer that had a bit of a heads up. I know five other locals that have announced their luck, they are all giving it some thought and some are asking for input. The nice thing is the many different options that people are considering. I am sure we will see a others that may be a reincarnation of an older virtual cache. However, many seemed to be giving it serious thought to come up with something creative, or at an interesting location
  6. Reviewers were not consulted in any way. We are happy about that because it removes us out of the equation.
  7. Very interesting. Thank you for putting this together, I think many people think that virtuals are dying of faster death than this graph is showing. Keep up the good work.
  8. Nicely done. Very interesting. I had my state's data but was not aware of the data worldwide.
  9. There were also many that are older, before the language guidelines were in place. Years ago every application had to be in English, as the couple reviewers were in USA. The requirement that it be in the local language was slipped in later.
  10. Periodically there is a cache page is made, but there is no cache. The cache owner thinks they are being clever and funny making people hunt for nothing. Personally as a reviewer a cache is meant to be found means that there should be one there, and the cache is findable. You can't just say something is there, but not have anything, or have a puzzle with no solution.
  11. Also note that if you require them to use the Wherigo cartridge, it is a Wherigo not an EarthCache.
  12. This discussion is on the topic of the recent update. Posts that stray from that topic or attack the employees will be removed and possibly lead to forum time outs. Please be mindful of your posts and try and make them constructive.
  13. If almost as many people did a "tribute" to a cache not there for the "experience", guess I'm a little (but just a little) curious how that's a concern now. If that "experience" has now somehow degraded to simply getting an icon for stats, well, I'd think those same people now know what they have to do to get that too. There is no requirement to go get the cache. No one is forcing anyone. If you are one of the 2943 that found the tribute there is no damage done to your find count with the original coming back, just like there is no damage to the 3080 that the cache is returned. In the end, make a trip if it interests you.
  14. One of our locals hits a 10 year streak in the next few weeks. He travels to Europe every year and goes into a lot of planning to get plane tickets and layovers so that it stays alive.
  15. Note that the email, though generated by computer, did not say that your cache is going to be archived tomorrow. It is a quick statement saything that you may have an issue. You could post an owner maintenance that the cache is fine, or simply ignore them. I would say that a person (reviewer) reading the logs is most likely going to move to the next cache on the list. In the end it is a tool to make people look at their cache pages. If it is not a problem, make note and move on. Too many seem to walk away and eventually forcing the reviewer to archive them (if it is warranted). I have many active cachers that receive this email, followed by me posting a note and weeks archiving it. That is a lot of work on my part for many caches. In the end, if the cache is ok, say so in a log, and move on. Many other caches will have strings of problems that reviewers will have to deal with.
  16. I made one for the BSA years ago, for our local council. They required BSA license for the seller. That limited me to Oakcoins, and Coins and Pins at the time.
  17. Lab caches sucked, bad. We went to check in and three were on a paper with the answers to three, however we had to hunt all over for the links. Finally we found someone who would email us a link. The others were all pub tours of downtown Denver, miles away. Sorry, do something creative or interesting nearby, don't send me across town. That also meant my friend and i who do not drink, and the families just ignored them. Sad. An opportunity wasted. At a certain time they sold everything they had sitting around. People that had registered and were gone lost out. Hopefully they got their money back if they showed up. Food was a mess. Big mess. Yes it was the food trucks fault for bailing, but someone should have followed up. I loved the caches, nice walks, in the area. Not far away. the location was cool. Near the city, but rural. Seemed sparse on coins, and coins for the event. They were gone when we got there, no one made anything interesting for the event. meh.
  18. Ahhh that would be nice. You had placers place caches on nice days, clear skies, good reception, and good equipment, then you followed. I know of caches in the hills, in the trees, where I would be very happy for 50 feet accuracy. I hunted for one, and one moment my gps says dead center, then a few minutes later it showed 300 feet off, I was stopping to eat a sandwich on the steep canyon sides. My phone would not even pick up the satellites in that deep canyon. In other words, accuracy is variable. It happens. There is no guarantee.
  19. If someone tells me a project will take a year, I don't expect 365 days. I expect about a year. If they announced the moratorium being over at the end of this month, when people ask how long the moratorium lasted, cachers won't say thirteen months or 57 weeks, they will say a year. Start complaining when it is 16 months or more. Sheesh people getting all uptight, especially when some progress is being made, and Groundspeak is sharing some ideas and concepts. They could have just kept quiet and said something when they were done.
  20. >>Tweeeeet<< Whistle Blown Everyone please play nice, warning given. Discussion seemed to be degrading. Treat each other with respect, end the back biting and name calling or red cards come out. Now back to discussion.
