  1. I believe you can create a temporary User Room on Yahoo and name it Geocaching, but who wants to wait around to see if anyone shows up? I have started to prefer the newsgroup style of chat because people tend to think about what they're going to say rather than blurt chatter. But chatter is fun once in awhile. If there were a chatroom, I'd drop in occasionally. Let me know if anyone finds one.
  2. How Far Would You Travel To Attend An Event Cache?
  3. 1. I'd like to know if there are any Geocachers in the area that would be interested in attending an event in Wichita Falls? If I get many responses for an event, maybe we could organize a monthly get-together. 2. ANYONE have tips on hosting an event? I have never seen an event near this area so, I have never had the opportunity to attend one. I need ideas, suggestions, learning experiences... any input would be greatly appreciated!
  4. Agreed - Part of what makes Geocaching so much fun is the lack of rules, restrictions and All Are Welcome. That is the very reason why I support Logging Your Visit Online! It is called being part of the community. There are so few rules, that it seems we, as a community of geocachers, should be able to at least get the coordinates online, find the cache, and return online to log our visit. Question to those who visit caches and pickup travel-bugs without logging them online: What is the difference between you and a thief or vandal? Caches aren't meant for just anyone. If they were, they'd be left out in plain site. But they are not. They are for those who follow the 3 simple steps (rules if you may). Has anyone in this community hidden a cache and requested that no one log it online? I don't know of anyone. An example: A cache I resently saw online was behind someone's house. When cachers visited the site, the dogs bark, the owner runs out and takes a picture and posts it online. His enjoyment is seeing and knowning others are having fun finding the cache he placed.
  5. My location is simply a Lat/Long. I was trying to be cleaver.... Oops... and then that darn signature and user handle gave me away!

  7. Anyone want to share pictures and stories about their 4-legged caching partners? Tasha goes nuts if I say GEOCACHING or show her the GPS! She runs for the door, jumps and runs in a circle so she isn't left behind. She has been with me for all cache hunts except those that I had to fly to. I now have to Spell g-e-o-c-a-c-h-i-n-g in front of her. We adopted her from the pound last summer and she has been the best dog ever! She is truly my best friend. I have attached a picture of Tasha eagerly waiting our next trip! [This message was edited by texas-jacksons on April 09, 2002 at 08:13 PM.]
  8. Just last month I was in California visiting my parents. I borrowed their car to go hunt for the Indepenence Trail cache near Nevada City. When I came back the window was busted out, my passport, purse, traveling cash and my mom's golf clubs were all gone. This parking spot was right on a busy mountain highway. Lots of cars around and still, they broke into 2 parked cars there. I at least carried my pack, wallet and half of my cash with me. It's hard to decided... do I carry it all with me incase the car is broken into or do I leave it locked in the car incase I'm mugged on the trail? I started a thread under "The Hunt" if you'd like to also see it: Bummer of a Break In

  10. Example: I posted my first virtual cache as a "Guess Who This Person Is". I didn't require proof of actually visiting the location and had several people figure out the answer and log the cache without leaving their computer. I personally wouldn't have done that, but I left it alone. Then I received several email complaints from others who thought I should delete logs if the people didn't actually visit the location. I didn't delete any logs, but from that point on, I request that cachers answer 3 "Proof Of Visit" questions before posting the find. I don't like having to do that. It's not a competitive sport. It's for fun. But so many people were offended that I allowed people a free find. To each his own. Maybe reward only Charter Members. They have proven, by joining, that they are dedicated and for the most part, honest and responsible. I like the Hike America Medallions. I like the hat pins. I also like the idea of choosing a prize from 3 or so small choices. (Post.Soapbox. The number of logged finds is not an accurate measure of the level of ones experience, only of the amount of ones spare time. Judging and name calling is rude and ignorant. No Names Mentioned.) 12. Irresponsible Geocachers... Yes, that is what I called everyone in my family who went with me last month and never logged their finds online. However, they all signed the logbook in the cache. I suppose since I logged it online they no longer felt responsible to do so also (hoping Mom and Dad don't read this nasty comment about them). That is my personal experience. I don't know if it is common among others who have taken friends along to introduce them to the sport. N34° 04.740' W98° 34.032'
  13. Just in the nick of time..... My old shirt is getting holes in it! GREAT IDEA for long sleeves! ticks and chiggers are unwelcomed hitch-hikers N34° 04.740' W98° 34.032'

  17. Have added tags.... lets see if this works Looks like it hasn't updated. Wondering if it takes a little while to update because I also changed "Permian Geocacher" to just "Geocacher" and that didn't change either.
  18. Recently I signed up as a charter member and would like to add a signature logo (jpg) to my profile so that when I post in the forum it automatically adds my signature logo. Does anyone know how to do this? What is UBB?

I can't watch shows or ads that are constantly switching the images, adjusting the volume and moving the viewers references. Maybe that's why I mostly watch baseball these days and ignore the networks. Even baseball isn't immune--Fox's presentation of the 2001 World Series was painful to watch. The swirling graphics, the little sound clips and the constant reminders that there's a new episode of Ally McBeal next Monday. Ugh. TresOkies, This sounds alot like Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD or ADHD). My husband is the same way. If he sees something flashing or moving around, his eyes lock on and he hyper focuses. He calls it A.D.D.... I call it Husband Ignoring Wife!

I'd have to agree. I don't care one way or the other. There are far worse things... such as the cacher who logged the answers to my virtual cache. Talk about annoying!

  23. In the NW Texas region there are far too many lame caches. I can download a dozen from EasyGPS that are within a 2 mile radius of each other. Most are virtual caches. It has a lot to do with the terrain. It's flat and there are no trees. So I understand the lack of creativity. Though it irritates me, I prefer the freedom of preferrance in this hobby. It's far better to police ourselves by communicating our opinions to others through forums and newsgroups than it is to be controlled through dictating rules and laws. With that said, Texoma Cachers, Don't put anymore Virtual Caches in the Wildlife Refuge. Try being a little more creative.
  24. It's always fun getting to know everyone in the Geocaching community. That's why I decided to create a new webring so that we can link together our personal caching homepages! Hope to meet you all! 25. My friend's son is an Eagle Scout and last summer he hiked a mountain peak in New Mexico and wasn't able to find a medallion for his hiking stick in any of the local stores. So, I searched the internet for him and found the companys website. http://www.hike-america.com. You hammer these tin medallions into the shaft of your walking stick as a badge of accomplishment. I thought it was a really neat idea and since we're on the subject of hiking sticks.... I wanted to share it! (800) 880-hike Good luck!
