  1. Wow, that's tiny! Will it be legible? haha! Same question I also asked. If not, we'll just cut the text and have the red-hand on one side and the Tracking number on the other. I've never seem a Micro coin other than the California one, but I really trust the company quoting me on this (Coins and Pins). In fact -- I have used both Coins and Pins (Geobone, Red-Handed) and Oakcoins (secret) and both have really been very customer friendly and done great work. We are lucky at the level to which they have embrased and understand our hobby. With the last Red-Handed coin, I had to "assemble" all the parts. Buy the tracking from Groundspeak, coins from Coins and Pins, and Oakcoins offered to handle and activation codes (how's THAT for cool!). Now, we can one-stop shopping. I like these companies so much I have to have twice as many coin projects so that I can spread the work between them!
  2. If you don't mind popping one in the mail towards Toronto, I can help you cover Canada even faster. dave Okay -- it's a big country I'll send some from the NEW CENTER OF CANADA to you poor old folks in Toronto PM me your address. (can you try to get one into a cache in Missisauga that I have visited? I think "If a Tree Falls" or the one next to the Delta Hotel along the park would be cool) -- thanks.
  3. Okay folks! Here's the quote! Specs: 19mm (2mm thick), polished finish, 2 soft enamel colors $435.00 for 500 coins $330.00 for laser etch colored 6 characters $76.00 for 2-D round die both sides $750.00 for tracking numbers $150.00 for custom icon $95.00 for shipping _______________ $1836.00 for 500 coins ($3.67 per coin) Price for 1000 coins: $3280.00 ($3.28 per coin) That's a pretty cool price for a trackable item if I say so myself! In fact, it is irronically less expensive than buying a Travel Bug tag! I should have had these made and jusst glued them to the "Feeps" I released! That stated, I have asked for the following: 1) Cost to make half "right" handed and half "Left" handed 2) Cost to attach activation code stickers to the coins 3) Cost to handle orders from US cachers (which would save postage considerably to US destinations where I expect the bulk of orders to originate) Even so -- it looks like this will be a very well priced coin for those seeking an inexpensive trackable iconed coin!
  4. Okay -- let's get some Feeps out there folks. 1) I have Europe pretty much covered. A Canadian cacher is heading over for vacation and going to do a "Sweep 'o" Feeps" across the continent as they travel and cache. 2) I PM'ed a fine gentleman in Perth, Austrailia and am awaiting a response. 3) Alaska just took care of itself! Must be that frontier spirit -- thanks LBK's 4) I have a Scotish connection in the works for the northern Eurpeans 5) Canada is covered as they are slowly drifting out from Calgary So... I need: A Scandinavian. Not for a "Feep" -- I just think that Scandinavian ladies are exceptionally beautiful -- okay, just kidding (about the no-feep part ) -- I do need someone that will help me here. I would love someone in Africa to help Hawaii? I need some one to punch some into caches. (okay....that's the lamest pun ever) Also! The Red Beetle has been released as a Travel Bug! Take a picture of a FEEP with one of my Red Beetle Travel Bugs and see what happens..... I dare you .... just see what happens!
  5. While I can't promise 100%, Perth, Western Australia where I am is a common travelling point to Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bali, Nepal, and Thailand etc, so I maybe able to help with your goal, by releasing coins here to get picked up by cachers heading into Asia. Regards Andrew PM sent for my "Feeps"
  6. Ouch! That's a tough one. When we take any non-cachers out, we always have to worry about them getting excited and "showing friends" then the friends show friends that show friends....... All of a sudden, the cache is known amongst non-cachers and is in danger. However, how can you avoid this? Recently, I taught a Geocaching course for the City of Calgary Parks and Recreation Dept. The class was comprised of about 30 people -- mostly families. What I did was have them build a cache, place a cache, then exchange coordinates and find each others caches. All of this gives the experience, but doesn't have them hunt "real" caches. It's a very controlled "lab". To be honest, it also means that I can place several caches close to the downtown area where I teach the course and not have to bus them to an area that has something other than micros. Then, I take the caches they created, hide them legitimately, and once they buy a GPSr they can hunt them and all the other 300,000 caches in the world. This way -- they have contributed to the hobby, understand the hobby, and I have not compromised the location of any real caches for those just casually interested. There isn't much you can do about your situation now, but contacting the owners and having them moved is probably a really good idea.
  7. This is a great idea. I am wondering if it could/should be tied into the StarGate caches? From what I understand, these caches allow you to place a Travel Bug into them and "poof" they appear across the planet. Of course, I'm always happy to release in Calgary -- the bugs here have 4 directions of travel. So they tend to fall towards Montana, up to Edmonton, or across to Sask. or BC. I'd be very interested in a way to get Travel Bugs into Asia and Africa -- these are areas where I can't seem to get my travel bugs to.....well, travel. (although I did have one get into China! whoo hooo!)
  8. I have a Calgary Cachers 2006 Token and a Gold Geobone attached to my Backpack that I carry my stuff in when I cycle to work and back. I also tend to have a small Geo-cache swag bag that has a few coins with me as I carry my GPSr with me everywhere in case I see a little Treasure Chest icon. Really, I enjoy caching, but am definately a "cacher of convenience" and cache as part of my regular journies. This is why my numbers are relatively low, but my distances between found caches is great.
  9. Well, I'll sell them at cost -- but postage is postage. So it may be more economical to order a few, but if someone really wants just one they can.
  10. Sort of. Check out my "Lemon Fresh Dog's Coin Cache and Post Office" cache. It was good for about 9 months.
  11. ANNOUNCEMENT: NEW, AMAZING GEOCOIN! This coin will be LE, rust-coloured metal encased in squishy plastic with 8 tenticles coming from the center! $250 each, pre-orders only.
  12. Another great idea! That's the best thing about forums -- they really help with details. In fact, the little ring on the top of my Geobone to attach Travel Bugs never would have happened without the forums. Thanks! Looks like the interest is here -- so when I get the quote I will post.
  13. Mrs. Shop99er refers to geocoins as this sport's charm bracelet. HAHA! That's the best description of a geocoin that I've heard yet! The entire commercialization of the coins to the point of no longer being a signature item has made the statement all too true. This is probably why LE's, special this, special that exist. Today, (in about 30 minutes) I will be getting the most boring coin you have ever heard of. One metal, no colour, 100 minted, non-trackable, no-icon. To get one, you will need to meet me face-to-face or you will need to visit a cache that I found and liked. Crazy....crazy....
  14. Hello all, I am sure this topic must have come up previously, but a search yielded no results I could see. Here's what I want to do: When I upload waypoints, I want them to be the exact icons that Groundspeak uses. Little question marks, geocaches, etc. I also want to load a custom icon for micros. I know that GSAK will allow me to create a relationship of built-in icon to cache-type, but I want the exact ones -- possible? (and, will this "break" the geocaching function associated with exisiting geocache icons. (found/not found) Thanks for any pointers or links.
  15. That's a nice reward -- I hope it doesn't get expensive! I'm just impressed with the number of miles this bug has travelled. I would have to assume you are involved with aviation in some way -- or maybe you're a super-spy!
  16. Haha! I am not the biggest fan of micros either! I figure "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em"
  17. That's a really good idea. I can't re-use the dies as the size has changed, so I can make changes like this -- I want them to look like their "big brother" and this would meet that criteria. Left-handed would likely incur another die fee -- so I don't know. My goal is nice, nice, nice and cheap, cheap, cheap.
  18. hmmmmm......*maybe* - have you checked your icons lately? Of course... http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=230270 This one needs to get moving tho! I was just joking around -- I'm trying to create a "mystery" about the mysterious left-handed red-handed coin I imagined you searching through all your coins trying to find the elusive left-handed one! In fact, I bet you don't have to go to the gym anymore! -- just carry your coins from event to event for a full-body workout!
  19. hmmmmm......*maybe* - have you checked your icons lately?
  20. Okay. I will then. -- this winter? I was going to do 100-200 of the "left-handed, red-handed coins" and just "sneak" them into the coin-o-sphere to see if anyone would notice. In fact, maybe I have? Have you checked your Red-Handed coins lately? I could also be joking..... ahhh.... the suspense, the mystery.
  21. These will be at cost. So whether someone needs 1 or 100, I will have to charge the same per coin cost (shipping would vary though ) Once I know the cost, I'll get a timeline for how long they would take. Then, I'll open up ordering and let everyone get as many as they want, round-up to the nearest 100 and order them in. (I'll pay the difference and keep whatever the "rounding number" end's up at. Last time I ordered 600 coins and 472 were sold -- so I have 128 of my own! I ended-up selling 30-40 in little chunks and, as most local cachers know, you couldn't visit a local cache without finding these for awhile!) haha! edit -- when I say I had 128 of my own -- be aware that I paid the same for each coin as everyone else. This is NOT a profit or "free coin" project. Cost to make is cost to buy.
  22. Okay.....we have to rescue that bear. So, anyone know how to train birds? If we all get OUR bird to trick THAT bird, then we can sneak in and get it. Of course, this is said from several 1000's of miles away -- so when I say WE, I actually mean YOU
  23. Okay - I have asked for a quote: 1) small -- penny or nickel sized 2) trackable 3) custom icon (little red-hand, of course) 4) simple, simple, simple.... same antiqued gold colour As soon as I get the quote back I will post the cost here and then let everyone know the final price. I am not sure how much difference the size makes (KEEP IT CLEAN ), but I would expect this to the the least expensive trackable, icon-ed coin in Geocaching history! Here is the front and back of the original coin
  24. Well.....I have no idea why I am doing this, but I think I am going to see if there is some interest in ..... The Little Red-Handed Coin. It will be exactly like the first Red-Handed Coin we did back last fall, but will be teeny, tiny to fit into Micros (which are not my favourite caches, but hey....there are a lot of them). I am thinking about the size of a penny. It would be AT COST. Which means that I would take the number made, divide into the cost to make them, and that would be the price. In fact, it may be the cheapest trackable geocoin ever! (I have no idea what the minting cost would be at this point, but it would be $1.50 for the tracking number and then the coin cost + postage). Let's assume that they would be a MAX of $4 to $5 each. Any interest? (I'll also make sure the numbers are nice and easy to read like on the Red-Handed coin - so the design may change slightly to accomondate)
