  1. That's it! The new caches are 2000 miles away, give or take a block. I tested GEx on local caches and it works perfectly. Thank you, kunarion!
  2. It's been a long time since I loaded a bunch of caches onto my GPSMap 64 from the computer, because, well, phone. But now I'm trying again, using Garmin Express. I've created a list, selected "send to Garmin," Garmin Express pops up and says, "Download complete!" So why can't I find the new caches on my Garmin? Is there a better way to do this now, before I give up and use the phone app?
  3. Hmm, maybe a $50 Amazon gift certificate would offset this error in discretion
  4. What a great list! We would add: For couples, don't underestimate the importance of a mutual tick check at the end of a long geocaching day. Be thorough.
  5. Our favorite log from one of our own caches: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=5dc98790-0137-47f9-b52f-15745fdfd3c0 Our log for our 200th find: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=c9235641-3fca-4e37-b7f9-f6bc106aa796
  6. "Congratulations on finding our cache _________! We hope you had as much finding it as we did hiding it. Because we hand-built the container and it's pretty unique, the photo you posted might take some fun out of the hunt for the next cacher, so we've deleted it. Hope to see you out there, and happy caching!" Is that nice enough?
  7. Just to clarify, we don't "cold-delete," for the very reason Team Sagefox touches on; if there's a valid email address available, we send a nice little note explaining why we deleted the log and asking the cacher to re-log. And as knowschad observes, the "in your face" hides are especially vulnerable to spoiler hints. We've hidden a few of those.
  8. We're sure this topic has been covered exhaustively somewhere in these forums, but we've started to see a trend of cachers - often novices - adding to their found logs, "Hint: check under the big rock to the left of the picnic table," or something similar, a complete spoiler. At first we were politely contacting the cacher and asking if they'd edit the log to preserve the experience for other seekers. Lately we've just been deleting them. Where is the idea that it's okay to drop a big ol' hint coming from? Don't even get us started on photos - but we don't feel as bad deleting those.
  9. We have quite a few multis among our hides, and we pay special attention to those, checking them several times a year. There's nothing more frustrating than completing a few stages of a multi only to find a key stage is missing. If cachers are willing to invest time in one of our multis, we want to make sure they have a rewarding experience and a smiley.
  10. Thank you for all this great advice. We contacted our reviewer, got the green light and made the change without any issues. Happy holidays!
  11. A cache of ours was recently displaced after the city rebuilt the kiosk where it was hidden. The old hiding spot was eliminated, so to replace it, we've had to change the container and style of hide completely. We came up with something kind of fun, and we're considering archiving the old cache and immediately submitting a new report. Is there a risk, though, that we could lose our site? How soon after archiving a cache can a new one appear at the same location? We could just keep the old listing, but we'd like to give local cachers a new cache for Christmas.
  12. We have a cache located outside a particular business, and the container is closely related to the nature of the business. The building sold and the business is moving up the street about a half mile. We'd like to move the cache along with it. Our understanding is that moves of more than a mile require a brand new listing, but under a mile, we could request an update of the coords by a reviewer and keep the original listing. Are we mistaken? Where can we find clarification? (if not here). Thanks!
