  1. This is a great idea! The maps are the feature I use most on the website. It would be great to not have to remember the name's of caches or if I DNF'd it before or not. Also I don't have a GPS that holds this info either so this would be an awesome feature to add.
  2. StarBrand - Thanks, great info. Exactly what I was looking for.
  3. Hello all. I am planning on placing a Multi-cache and wanted to get some insight from anyone who has done one. I have the spot picked out. I'm going to use water-proof matchstick holders for the wp's and an ammo can as the final. Some questions I have: 1.) When listing the cache I put the 1st stage as the coords on the cache page, this is where the icon will show on google maps on the website, correct? So where do I enter the other wp's and final? 2.) I know that the final has to be within the 528ft rule. Does each wp have to be at least 528ft apart from each other? Does each wp have to be at least 528 from any other caches? (the reason I ask is part of where I'm going to place this is a 7 mile loop trail that Y's off and I want to place WP's near the Y's to keep people from going the wrong way) 3.) Any cool ideas or suggestions? I have done a handfull of Multi's and I really enjoyed them. I want to make this one interesting and fun, so any tips would be very helpful. Thanks!
  4. I haven't really ever felt guilty, however I was out of town the other day caching by myself on a paved "walking trail". It was about 6pm and I felt kind of awkward as I was coming out of the trees in an area that other than caching I had no reason being in. Two women were walking on the trail and they both changed their walking speed, kept looking over their shoulders and one of them pulled her mace out of her shorts. I felt like a creep and was kinda offended but then I thought what they must have thought. If only they knew I was looking for a hidden tupperware, so I could sign a log book
  5. I'm still a new to geocaching but very addicted. I have been using my own philosphy on DNF's. I usually never look at hints, logs, cache names or cache pages before searching. I use a geomate jr, turn it on, reach GZ and the search is on. So if I come to a micro and GZ is a bush at a busy intersection, I'll look for maybe a minute get bored and move on; no DNF. But if I search and search until I just give up I'd post a DNF. After reading these posts, I'm going to adopt the "If I'm in the area and DNF it, I'll log it." In fact I'm going back the past week and logging all the DNF's I can remember.
  6. I'm new to geocaching as well (since June) and have thought about winter-time lately and how I am going to feed my addiction to cache. I've been trying to get all the caches that are near water or big long mountain hikes during the summer time and have been saving the neighborhood parks and caches around my house for wintertime. We got over 90 inches of snow last winter and have regularly 90-100 degree July's and August's, so I am discovering how much caching changes with seasons as I'm loving the 70's crisp autumn days lately.
  7. Is there a way to find out or does anyone know the Oldest Active cache out there in the U.S. I recently found a cache placed 2-22-01, GC33A. It got me wondering what the oldest cache is and how awesome it is to have a cache remain active after so many years. Thanks & Happy Caching!!
  8. Thanks for letting me know about this - the list of missing geocaches helps a lot and it appears that they should be a part of the list. We have a theory and are checking into it as we speak. Standby!! Cheers Warren Hello, I purchased a geomate jr back in June and absolutely love it! When I first heard of the Update Kit I was very excited. Finally the day it came out I ran out to REI and purchased it. I understand that there will be some bugs to work out. Yesterday I went to try it out and more than half of the caches were not loaded. Hopefully this helps. I am using USA Western. These caches were not loaded: GC1CWOB GC1JMZK GC1BPDA GC1JG47 GC1NEVT GC1MFFH All of these are Traditional Caches under a 4 terrain/difficulty. They are all Micros that don't show up. Again I hope this helps out. Thank you very much in your involvement in releasing this product.
  9. I have had my Geomate Jr. since June and have never had that problem, however since I started using the Update kit, almost everytime I hook it up it dies and the only way I can get it to power back up is by taking out the batteries and putting them back in.
