  1. Thanks Kunarion. I have internet explorer version 11.418.18362.0
  2. I have windows 7 professional and internet explorer. Don't know how to find the version number.
  3. After reading the replies, I thought I was just being an impatient old fart, so I tried it again on a local cache and after staring at a white screen for 5 minutes I decided it wasn't going to get any better. Any clues what is wrong? No problem at all getting the map with all the caches on my android phone but not on my laptop.
  4. Am I the only one that cannot open a Geocaching.com Map from a cache page? All I get is a white page.
  5. I had a cache named MAYDAY,MAYDAY,MAYDAY. It had 10 stages with each stage a wrecked airplane part with the coordinates for the next stage stamped into it. I had my cell phone number on some of the stages also just in case anyone needed help along the way. One day I got a call with laughter on the other end. The caller asked if I was Skyraider and told me he was doing some excavating in the area and when he pushed over a hollow tree a part of an airplane fell out of it with my phone number on it!!! He was cracking up. Thankfully he had heard of geocaching and realized what it was all about before he called the police about an airplane cash!!
  6. I just received the following information from the FAA. They are going to be interfering with the GPS system from April 07 to 15 in the Huntsville area: FLIGHT ADVISORY GPS INTERFERENCE TESTING AIR FORCE SPECTRUM MANAGEMENT OFFICE (AFSMO) 18-22 07 – 15 April 2018 Huntsville, AL GPS testing is scheduled as follows and may result in unreliable or unavailable GPS signal. A. Location: Centered at 344014N0864137W or the VUZ VORTAC 013 degree radial at 61NM. B. Dates and times: 07 – 15 APR 18 0600Z – 1000Z C. Duration: Each event may last the entire requested period
  7. Just have to let off a little steam. Looking for opinions. Over 10 years ago, the W. V. Wildlife Management Area folks up in the Northern part of my state decided that Geocaches were "Abandoned Property" and confiscated them in our Area. Check out PAFARMBOY's terrific caches-(MENSA OR MEATHEAD..WHICH ONE ARE YOU, GCYCVP) or (LESS THINKING....MORE HIKING, GC11WP7) which he had to archive. I have not been been permitted to hide tupperware on these large parcels of land since. Recently the same state organization has approved the building of a huge turbine powered powerplant on this same land: The new site is in a portion of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Cross Creek Wildlife Management Area. According to the company’s website, the plant would generate enough natural gas electricity to power about 700,000 homes. The information states it will eventually leading to $440.5 million worth of economic activity per year. Information from the Public Service Commission of West Virginia shows the plant will consist of two combustion turbines that will drive two generators, along with an additional steam turbine. Just proves that "MONEY TALKS AND GEOCACHING WALKS!!!!"
  8. I have a couple caches out there that have greeting card messages in them. Check out GC4TBKR, GC1WTPW, and the archived GC342YX. That last one was near a haunted cemetery and it played the Graveyard Smash when it opened. Actually quite easy to do. When you take the card apart it is obvious which two wires need to be wired to a switch. I used a micro switch from Radio Shack. Had to weld a little bracket inside the can to hold the switch. The rest of the parts were JB Welded to the inside of the can. The battery last's a long time, but when it does expire, I just attach two AA batteries instead. They will be 3 V in series and are a lot cheaper than the button battery. Have had a lot of good comments about the instant message!!!
  9. Way back in November of 2004 I placed a "Caballa Bear" TB in a cache in PA. It was stolen and never moved from that location. Within the last month it has been discovered in the Chek Republic by 3 cachers who post something about being discovered at WWW. I know now that I made the mistake of being able to see the tracking number in the picture on the TB page. Does that have something to do with it? I got no reply from one of the "Discoverers" when I tried to email.
  10. I used my Skylane for many caching trips. Being based near PIT, I was able to find caches in several different states on day trips with the old 182. The most memoriable was "Starve Island" in Lake Erie. Had to fly into Put In Bay airport and carry my Stearns inflatable kayak down to the beach and paddle over to it. Could not have done it without the plane. Another great cache was "BWT,s Phobia Series - Acrophobia" I did it for my #1,000. I had flown up to check it out, but the day I needed to do it. The plane was down with a prop leak, so I drove 400 miles to get it. I would have rather flown!!!
  11. I have spent many days flying to a new airport and doing a cache or two. I even modified a bicycle that slides apart so I have transportation to a cache when I land. I guess that combines 3 things. Flying, bicycling, and caching all the same day!!!!
  12. You gotta check out "GCXAPJ RACCOON LOOP.....HIKING 20 MILES FOR ONE SMILEY?" It has 23 favorite points and everyone that does it, loves it. Read the posts. What a challenge. The best engineered cache I have done so far. I am very proud to be the FTF on it.
  13. Every state has their own policies about placing caches. Here in WV there are even conflicing policies between different departments. The State Parks encourage caching, but the Wildlife Management areas prohibit them.
  14. One of the most fun caches I have done so far is "BWT's Phobia Series - Acrophobia" GCYK7H, in New York stste. AWSUM!!!!!
  15. Not to be picky but Pax River would not be this old sailor's definition of the northern part of the Bay. Central maybe... Glad it's too cold o be out there. It is in the central area. Seems to be centered around the Lexington Park/Hermanville area.
  16. I just recieved the following notice from the FAA about unreliable GPS signal due to some testing they are going to do later this month. Looks like it will effect the Northern part of Chesapeak Bay. This may be the best excuse for a DNF that I have ever seen!!!!: FAA Safety Team | Safer Skies Through Education GPS Testing January 16, 2012 – January 24, 2012 Patuxent River, MD. Notice Number: NOTC3454 GPS Testing PAXR GPS 12-01 January 16, 2012 – January 24, 2012 Patuxent River, MD. See attached document for more details. https://www.faasafety.gov/files/notices/2012/Jan/PAX12-01_GPS_Flight_Advisory.pdf
  17. I drove 812 miles in one day from WV to NY and back to do "BWT's Phobia Series-Acrophobia",(GCYK7H.) for my #1,000 on May 5, 2007. It was worth every mile of it. What an AWSUM cache and still my #1 favorite.
  18. Thanks for all the reply's. Just to clear things up, I am a proud 62 year old that loves a terrain challenge. I try to keep in shape by eating just the right amount of chicken sandwiches and chocolate milkshakes!!! And thanks to wildchild97 for the latest cache. It was fun climb to a great rock overlook.
  19. Anyone having problems with caches being over rated for terrain? I like to do the more difficult T caches, and lately I have been somewhat dissapointed by what I think are way too high ratings for terrain. There is a local cache that is rated a 4 1/2T that is only 26 feet from the parking area. It is down over about a 10 foot bank, but it could be done in bedroom slippers!!! I have done 2 caches recently that were fun hikes, but they were rated 5T and I needed no equipment or training other than a pair of boots. Am I being too critical, or should I just be happy that they were not as tough as I expected them to be. It is getting hard to write a decent log without coming across as the cache cop!!
  20. It's not my cache, but my favorite long hiking cache is GCXAPJ "RACCOON LOOP.....HIKING 20 MILES FOR ONE SMILEY?" by PAFARMBOY and #2 is GCH643 "Upper Yough Trek" by tmp.
  21. I love to do tough terrain caches. Nothing irks me more than to drive an hour or so to get to a new 4 1/2 or 5 star terrain cache and find that it should be rated no more than a 2 1/2 or 3. No special equipment needed, and could be done with bedroom slippers on. There is a 4 1/2 star terrain cache near me that is only 23 feet away while still seated in my car. I can throw a rock and hit it!!! I did a recent 40 mile drive for a 5X5 that I completed in a 20 minute walk with no equipment needed. SOOO, anybody else feel this way? What's your Pet Peeve?
  22. I am having the same problem. It has been weeks since I have recieved an email for someone finding one of my caches, or one on my watchlist. I use hotmail. I thought it ws just me.
  23. Thanks for eveyone that expressed their opinion on this. I just don't care to do "park&grabs" or any caches that state I have to "watch out for muggles". That is just the way I like to cache. I like to the harder terrain ones. That is what is so great about our sport/hobby. Everyone can do what they like and there is no right or wrong. I don't have anything against what others choose to do, but was just wondering how other cachers handled their Ignore List. Thanks for the input.
  24. WHY? That's the point. I was just trying to get a discussion started about why cachers put caches on their ignore list. Maybe because they may be too hard to try, or maybe just because they don't like a certain cacher, or maybe 'cause they don't want to be bothered by "Park & Grabs" What is your opinion?
  25. Just wondering who has the most local caches on their "Ignore List" I have about 700.
