  1. Thanks to all for the replies and advice--Something to think about, but I/we will probably stay with the paper . camp637
  2. Hello, We are thinking about trying to get into using a PDA for cache pages. Any advice on how to go about doing this ? ( I bet this will generate al ot of replies) I am thinking about a Palm Pilot type of pda, but know nothing about them or how to set it up with a Geo page. Answers to camp637@yahoo.com will be fine instead of tying up bandwidth here. Thanks. Jim Campbell
  3. Just posted our info-seems like a good idea ! Jim and Pat camp637
  4. I just downloaded the software update into my Legend--I had old software, so this software is a large improvement for me. I was having problems with the download, but the Garmin customer service is outstanding! They also helped with the Mapsource upgrade as well.
  5. I am in total agreement with Markwell--Great Maramach Valley (SIC?). camp637
  6. We have another one for you that we actually have used--TSLN--Took Something Left Nothing -that is, when we had retired a cache recently, we noticed that even though we had put a LOT of items in it originally, it was virtually empty when we returned to do maintenance on it. So we figured that TSLN was a good way to put it. camp637
  7. If we did not already know you two people, we would say that you are absolutely nuts! Oh wait, your'e Geocachers--all Geocachers are nuts, aren't we? Enjoyed the post, sure does fit a lot of us. I think many more of us will need to get into a 12 step program. The other half of the team actually suggested we take the two week vacation coming up and go caching somewhere in Minnesota or some other God Forsaken state! And I agreed! Who knows where we will end up. In fact, a couple of weeks ago, we were in Las Vegas, and since we had a car for only one day, we hit 13 caches-7 with the car, and 6 more the next day by foot. Help us--were addicted.! camp637 Jim & Pat
  8. My wife and I have tried about 5 or 6 at night--usually new ones that have just come up on the wite as I read thru e-mail and other stuff after getting home from work at 9:00 p.m.. We have found them most of the time, however, one I went looking for recently could not be found. As i searched around the area, my batteries finally quit on me. I had thought ahead and had brought along spares, but I did not realize until I sat down on a log to change them that they had fallen out of my jacket pocket somewhere. Needless to say, no luck. I posted my note on the site, and the next morning, a cacher not only found the cache, but my missing batteries in their imitaion leather bag. He offerred to return them, I told him to keep them. Long story here, sorry, it got out of hand.
  9. We have a sporting goods store here in the Chicago area called Gaylan's, where I picked up one of the aluminum sticks as showninan earlier port for $20.00. I use it constantly!
  10. Th anks for your replies. We realized that we simply missed the box on the page due to the latenest of the hour--we were very tired after a long day. Thanks again.
  11. We have just activated our second travel bug. After we entered a full description, we went back to upload photo. That seemed to go okay, but the actual photo does not appear with the description. Instead, the name of the image is listed at the bottom of the page, and you must click to view it. We did everything the same as for our first bug, and the pix for that one appears with the description. This second bug has a rather long description -- could that be the reason?
  12. Great post-Great story... Really enjoyed that one. Keep it up, take your wife with you also so that you can both enjoy it--perhaps with friends ,family, and/or neighbors.
  13. I just bought an inexpensive and small tape recorder that I took along today for the first time to record whatever info I deemed necessary . Sometimes in the Cold Mid-Western Winters, it's hard to write on the log sheet that we bring along with us, so I thought I'd give this a try to see how it works. Quite well,I must say. On the other hand , my wife said it was like a running commentary-ala Quincy(The Medical Examiner show from a long time ago). She said it sounded like I was doing an autopsy! Now, how about setting up some of these recordings some day in a way that Geocachers could hear them? Perhaps I can set up something on my web page? Questions--answers- suggestions? camp637
  14. For us, we feel that Fall and Winter are the best times to Geocache. Yes, no bugs, but also no sweating, less thirst problems, fewer leaves on trees for a better signal, and SNOW on the ground just to add a little more of a degree of difficulty sometimes. camp637
  15. We were looking for a cache today in Olympia Fields,Illinois called America Cache (GC69B3). We did not find the cache(probably gone), but we did find a brand new Suitcase in a plastic bag with the price sticker still on it from the T.J.Maxx store. We called the police on the cell phone and had them pick it up. Hopefully it will get back to the store it belongs to. camp637
  16. I think that I will start to add a Frustration Level to my logs, something on the basis of a 1 to 10 scale. 1 being the least frustrating cache hunt, and a 10 being the absolute limit of frustration. This may be an option to add to the site-what do you think(he said -with his tongue in cheek-or not)? camp637 Jim kb9rgu

  18. I have used the traditional ammo boxes, but now I am going to try a plastic pretzel barrel, painted in a camo type of color. Let's see how that works, and we'll let you all know shortly.

  20. Thanks all for your'e replies. I constantly am amazed at the helpfulness of people that are total strangers to each other.
  21. I find Ammo Boxes at Army-Navy Surplus Stores. I have also found them at the Hamvention this past may in Dayton,Ohio, being sold by a large closeout type of dealer.
  22. I am not extremely familiar with how to put picturess and text, etc. onto the WWW.geocaching.com site when setting up a new cache. Does that make any sense? I would like to post text and pictures and or graphics on my next hide, but am not at all familiar with the process. Do you do it all in a Word document and then paste it in? A little help would really be appreciated. Thanks,Geocachers! Jim camp637
  23. Thanks to everybody for their input. I really didn't expect that much. After all, it was just one of those "what if" that often goes off in my brain. I did learn something from all the replies, however. That is what the forum is all about. Thanks again , all.
