  1. Not sure if it has happened yet but there was some talk about making grabbing someone else access point without there permission a cirminal offense as it is actually stealing. Just what I heard. cheers
  2. One you can not put a cache on a cruise ship as it would then be a commericail cache, you would have to buy a ticket to do the cache. Two it is a moving cache so it would not be approved. So it is a mute point. cheers
  3. I guess another reason to NOT use Lithium based batteries. I have never had a problem with my dive lights out gasing but they are sealed lead acid or NiMH or NICADs. I don't like lithium based batteries as Lithium is highly toxic in the environment etc.... Okay I am a closet tree hugger but then again. The best thing I have heard of is a well know cacher, you know who you are, set his pants on fire by shorting the NiMH batteries he had in this pccket with the coins he had in his pocket. I was on the phone with him when it happened it was well some what funny. So I guess another guess I have another reason to not buy a Surefire flashlight. cheers
  4. I hate to say this but after having a few caches destroyed by frustrated cachers that just wanted the smile and did not enjoy the creativity that went in to making a creative to open cache container. I am now some what hesitant to make a cache that is very complex. I like it and enjoy the creativity of a good cache more then the hide but some folks well...... Sorry if this is some what cynical but it is true. If you try this then GOOD LUCK. cheers
  5. I think the horse is DEAD. But some folks just want to keep wacking it. LOL By the way some folks like the hunt and thus a micro gives them a real pleasure as you don't see where the cache is from 50feet away. So like anything geocaching is many things to many people. So if you don't like micros don't do micros. Cheers
  6. Okay everyone that has EVER broken a branch of a tree raise there hand. Okay now get off it. When I worked surverying we would cut notches in trees or just cut a tree down for a line of sight. Your not causing deforestation. cheers
  7. Is there a PDA that will let you transfer data, waypoints, from GPX from the PDA to the GPS as an alternative to using a laptop or PC. This would be good when you want to travel light and not have to worry about carring a laptop. I am in the market for a new PDA so what would your suggests be or is this even possible? cheers
  8. Unless it is sitting next to a house would be an easy find.
  9. I guess you have your OPINION but it is just that. A cache is a contianer with a logbook in it. A micro fits this bill. I admit I am not a big micro fan but then again I don't always have the wherewith all for a 5 mile hike in the woods so a few quick micros in town, where they fit in, is a good alternative. I hope GC.com does not do away with micros and I know there are many folks that like the challenge of finding them. There is a very SMALL resprensation of the caching community on the forum to what is in RL.
  10. Terrain is minimal a 4 and probable a 4.5 but since on special equipment is need not a 5. Let people know they maybe in for an adventure on this one. Fast moving water even a couple feet deep can be deadly so let folks know. cheers
  11. The idea of geocaching with out a GPSr is not new and there are cachers with 100s of finds with only using a map and compass. But if you don't need a GPSr then it is not a geocache as the use of a GPSr is the basic premise of geocaching and Ulmer's orgional concept. cheers
  12. The basic answer is NO. Humans thrive on contrivercy not cooperation. If everyone agrees then there is nothing to say. So no we can't get along. cheers
  13. If I had know this was from Snoogans I guess I should have left a 5 page discourse on the evils of ELF and its fanatical view and another 5 pages on the geocachers view of the environment. cheers
  14. Well I would consider all the people to smoke that throw there cigarette butts on the ground to be a bigger target as they cause more of an environmental impact. But then again all the geotrails people leave. Maybe better start checking for punji pits and mantraps on geotrails. cheers
  15. AtoZ

    Cryptograms

The type of code is easy as it is given on the cache page. It was a fun cache to solve and I know it is a killer cache to find. Well GL and all. cheers
  16. WHY DOES IT MATTER. Shee people complain about the number people. If GC.COM counts it as a cache it is a cache. I am sure in the early days of micros that people didn't think they were cache. Then just do this a real cache is ONLY a 5 gallon buck in DU tradition. Ammo cans are not caches because they are smaller then a 5 gallon bucket. So now how does you count add up. DOES IT MATTER??????? cheers
  17. As the saying goes "play the game the way you want to." If you don't like micros don't do them. In all honesty why not complain about the real nemis of caching the cache in a PILE OF ROCKS. Now that is the worst of all. cheers
  18. rappel, scuba, caving all in a days caching. cheers
  19. (6) Reaching the hide area and finding the cache apparently missing, and claiming a Find (cheating) This one is up to the cache owner. I don't mind doing this as if the person is a know good cacher and verifies the cache is gone then I'll let them claim the cache. I hate to waste gas and have to return to a cache that gets replaced. But some folks don't find it so o'well. It us up to the owner. cheers
  20. I would suggest that you use this time to get famiular with your GPSr. You should get a book, I recommend GPS MADE EASY, and read it. A GPSr can be used for more then finding tupperware and ammo boxes. cheers
  21. For the batteries no problem just let folks know. For the ability of cachers not to break it there is a high probabokity. I know not everyone is as careful as they should be etc.... I know this from watching and seeing what folks have done to caches. But one thing you could do to decrease the fragilness is to encase it in epoxy like they do for electronics for bands this would help. The other thing you can do is put it in your front yard. BadAndy has made some good electronic caches so maybe talk to him. cheers
  22. The Nevada geocaching association does something like this I am told by and ex member. BUt is is basically a 4x4 course. I think you might contact local cachers and find some help as it would only by a local event. cheers
  23. So your asking us to practice medicine without a license, isn't that a federal offence????? cheers
  24. I just average 30, a stastically signifinate number, pts using my GPSr and call it good. It really doesn't as the satellite constilation is constantly changing and your always have a differant value on differant days. Remember your GPSr is really only good to about 10m, I know all the WAAS and that may drop it to 3m but blaw. So there isn't much signifinace in doing more then intinal readings. Maybe tweek them at a later day if you feel bad but then again..... cheers
  25. Get a hold of BOB & BOB caving supply. Cavers use various harness configurations for coming and going in caves. I use a Metolious Wall Harness which is nice to hang in. I have other harness from just simple almost swamie belt to alpine depending on the need but for verticle work the Wall Harness is nice to hang in. cheers
