  1. Why not worry? Weeeee! Circular arguments are fun!
  2. I haven't done one yet, but the places I'd read about it at sugest finding a missing cap and replacing it with your own custom made cap. Of course, they were selling the caps with the film canister already glued in... I think the tops cost less then 5$ at a hardware supply store.
  3. Most people here recomend the Garmin Legend/Vista series. I'm happy with My Magelion Triton 400, but alot of people here don't like them. I haven't tried the garmin offerings, but they seem to be the most recommended. Your price-range is quite important... The highest-end units cost around 300-400$, A cheep unit might be 100-150$. You might be able to get an older mid-ranged unit for 50$-100$ on e-bay. That would definatly be something to consiter. Some phones already have GPS capability. Blackberries and iPhones already have special programs for them. If you have the right phone you might already own everything you need!
  4. Your can "play the game anyway you want" - but I do see an intellectual problem with that kind of attitude. The caches take effort, and frequently, money to place and maintain. Taking some time out to consider the desires and feelings of the cache owner and your fellow cachers seems quite reasonable.
  5. I really appreciate this thread. I think I've developed a philosophy I'll use in future caching... -If I arrive at a site and spend effort looking, I'll log a DNF. -If I arrive and must abort the search due to muggle activity or some other reason I will not log a DNF since there I haven't actually begun to search yet. -If the reason why I couldn't search is interesting or relevant to the next searcher, I'll log a note. I think that sounds reasonable and within the intentions of the system.
  6. I like it! It would be good for an area near a creek where it's green year round.
  7. It's already happening... I have some friends who say "Lawl" (for lol) and "Roaffel" (for ROFLMAO). I die a little on the inside every time I hear them say it.
  8. No "woops" needed - if the person seems genuinely interested then you didn't do anything wrong. You might have "saved" a muggle from muggleness.
  9. It could be done with a greasemonkey script, but I'm not able to find one on google that anyone has previously created for this task. I don't realy know enough about them to implement my own either. Oh well, and "LOL!". As for the thief... bummer. Maybe a CIA-style homing beacon could do the trick? We could get Jack Bauer to track them down for us.
  10. I have it and I'm quite happy with it. I haven't tried to download the free topo maps... (really?! I gotta look into that!) or contact the customer service departments but so far I'm happy with the actual device. Once you learn how to use it it's quite good at what it does. The paperless cacheing tools are nice. For the price, it's hard to beat it.
  11. You know, I was just thinking how cool "geomail" would be. I was also thinking that you could use geo-coins like a stamp, so it's progress could be tracked. Very very cool indeed.
  12. It's called a desiccant. They come in pill bottles, etc. It might not stop a leak, but it would defiantly stop mildew caused by humidity. http://www.silicagelpackets.com/ It would require some extra maintenance and cost but it would reduce or eliminate humidity issues.
  13. Ha. I wonder if they'll let you sign the log if you show up at the sheriff's office? Or maybe that jerk just thought he'd be funny?
  14. You could do a custom geocoin. It's the same concept. Check this page for a list of manufacturers: http://www.geocaching.com/track/geocoin.aspx Yeah, many do custom designs.
  15. It's not up to anyone but the TB owner to decide if their Travel Bug needs "retiring". Looks like the owner of these is also a cacher and the logs are all pretty much normal everyday travel bug logs. Fair enough.
  16. I think I would "retire" any bug I find like this. Sorry, but if you want me to do your advertising for you I'll need to be compensated.
  17. You need to validate your e-mail. The instructions should be in your e-mail you gave when registering. If you did not receive it, go to http://www.geocaching.com/v/ If you have validated, you might need to log out and back in. I had to do that before everything worked right.
  18. I just got mine on Tuesday. So far I'm happy with it. It does take some experimentation to figure out all the paperless caching. I agree the buttons are annoying. However, it's perfectly functional and the SD card feature is very nice.
  19. Defiantly not this. I passed up on a cache today because there was someone waiting in their car nearby. If you don't want to do an option C, then take a drive around the block.
  20. Well, it too me a while, but I figured out why I couldn't post on the forums. Apparently if your password contains special characters it works fine on the geocaching.com page but not here. Anyway, not a big deal but it's mildly annoying that I must now use a less secure version of my password. I coulnd't find a forum marked "tech support" or "bug reports" - so please move this if this is not an appropriate place for this. Have a nice day and happy caching!
