  1. "Play dough is simply made of wheat, mineral oil, salt, a drying agent such as borax, agents, perfume and colourants. " Sounds like foodstuff to me, assuming the random website I found on Google is correct.
  2. I think you have stumbled upon why no serious geocacher will relay on the Geomate.jr... at-least not as their sole geocaching gadget. You can go old-fashioned... you can print out the cache pages before you goto a particular area. As I understand it the Geomate.Jr will find any caches near your location, not just near your home. Do you have a Blackberry, iPhone or similar cellphone? There are a number of third party applications for many smart phones that let you bring the caching data with you out in the field.
  3. Yes, a few times when out caching with others. err.. no. I don't think I've ever not logged a find. There might be one or two, out there I forgot to log, but I'd give it a low probability. Geocache-Nav is quite useful in this regard, assuming I have cell signal.
  4. I was gonna say that. Only sure way your message only gets to those who find the cache.
  5. In many areas there are "rails to trails" projects. As far as I know caches are permitted along those.
  6. I have one of these stickers in my car window. I was thinking how cool it would be for people to "discover" me out in the world. In practice, it seems like it's never noticed and even if a cacher sees it most don't care to discover a bug. Meh... Oh well. Yeah, mine came with the actual tags. Not sure why, but I'm betting Groundspeak won't sell the numbers to the retailers separate and including the tags part of the licensing. Maybe.
  7. In short, yes, it's likely vandalism. However, on the other hand, it's low-key and likely to be low-risk. Local ordinances and enforcement will differ, of course. I know your not interested in alternatives, but I had an idea... if you got a magnet. Maybe one with a skateboarding logo of some kind... I see stickers like that stuck to signs all the time. Paint your coords on the magnet and stick it to the sign. Not helpful if it's aluminum, but it might be worth investigating. Alternitivly you could hide it in a bison tube on a strip of laminated paper.
  8. REI is the closest thing to a geocaching store that I've personally seen out there. They have GPSrs, plenty of containers, waterproof logs, and official travelbugs.
  9. 1824, 'eh? My smoke signal skills are a little rusty. The trick is in one of the Premium Member benifits... "Pocket Queries"... check out Markwell's site for a quick tutorial on how to use them: http://www.markwell.us/pq.htm
  10. This is true... but people for some reason get all weird about urban dangers and misty eyed over rural dangers. drive-byes = bad falling off cliff = Awesome cache man! Here's an idea for an awsome cache... "Red or Blue?" (3.5/1) "This cache is right near the HQ of a major gang in the middle of LA, and has been placed with permission. However, there is a catch... if you wear the wrong color to the cache you will get shot. As this is a mystery cache, I'm not telling you what color that is." Muahahahah...

    Blank pages ... ?

So you can make snide, indignation posts on the forum?
  12. Arrow42

    IPB error

That statement is... likley to be incorrect.
  13. If those attributes were on ANY cache I think it would go on everyone's Ignore List. You underestimate many geocachers. As long as the difficulty was marked appropriately....
  14. I don't see where copying good caches could ever be considered a bad thing? Do you prefer the status quo where n00bs copy their first find, which was an LPC? This only works if everyone agrees that the kinds of hides you like are good caches. You already make the assumption that people will be rating LPCs low.
  15. If your like me and can get migraines from staring at these sorts of things for too long, you can hit the ESC key on your keyboard to stop it. Works in FF, but I'm not sure about IE. As for the dog...
  16. Maglites are quite durable... this one is quite nice. A single super-bright LED with a great beam. The two AA batteries should last quite a long time. Cost a little less then 20$. The flashing-modes are gimmicky, but oh well. Maybe someday I might have a use for a SOS flash.
  17. That is what I would suspect as well. If you have a recent "my finds" PQ you can use it to compare.
  18. It's worst then that... what if that particular style is a kind of cache you don't like? A simple 5-star rating system enforces a "right" way of caching and a "wrong" way and right-wrong would be defined by the lowest common denominator.
  19. Geocachng.com has no special requirements, but you will need a semi-modern browser in order to render modern websites. Windows 95 is 14 years old - It's simply not adequate for anything but the most basic tasks.
  20. This is just a forum full of other cachers... we can't appeal the decision for you. You would be better off if you worked directly with your reviewer. Your best bet would be to make the cache confirm with how the reviewer sees the policy. And frankly, if someone is required to walk up to a business it's easy to see the reviewer's point. Is there some reason it has to be that sign? Can it be something else... "three times the number of characters on the road sign, minus 13" or something similar? I can appreciate the desire to argue something purely on principle...
  21. I would recomend using a silk bandanna. Maps used to be printed on silk due to it's durability. Cost might be prohibitive, but it could be worth looking into.
  22. I've had the same problem with "somewhere in that blasted tree!" caches.. I've come up with two theries that might help, but I'm not too sure yet. Try A flashlight - cammo tape reflects differently then leaves. The reflection can catch your eye. Shake the tree - if it's hanging it will swing differentially then a leaf. If your lucky it will just fall out. Good Luck!
  23. ... but you don't mind pimping a trade-marked brand of containers?
