  1. Just yesterday I went shopping for new bed sheets and some pillows... Somehow, some cache containers jumped in my shopping bag as well
  2. Where did you mention this? I must have overlooked it. --> Sorry, I mentioned it in another topic. I prefer walking (not hiking ) and thanks a lot for your tipps! I might try those out this summer! Muerzzuschlag is our next destination - maybe even this weekend. Because of my severe illness and my work, most of the time I do not have time to go caching more than once a week. That's why I am always looking for cache series or at least rural areas with loads of caches to keep up with my finds.
  3. Of course there are many many caches in Vienna, Salzburg, etc. - but if you hide all Mystery and Muli Caches there are not so many Traditionals left. Apart from that - as I said - I do not like to go caching in big cities. I love those caches hidden in the woods. The eyeroll was ment funny and nice I am not interested in setting up an own Power Trail because I still miss the fun of hiding and being the owner of so many caches. Apart from that - as cezanne said - there are so many nice spots all around us, so we do not need 1000 caches along a highway. But nevertheless I would like to go on one myself. We are already hiding caches in our area. We have hidden a series (which is rather attractive according to my opinion and to other cachers) and we are already planning the next. That's for cachers who want to go mountain hiking and finding more than one cache
  4. Ok, now I have to ask, what an Audit log is...? Sorry, but I haven't talked about this before.
  5. May I ask which locations? Or let's say: why do you want to keep the traffic low?
  6. Hi again, I was always wondering what the point of premium only members is? Best regards, Fjordi
  7. Thanks I think I have never seen a McDonald's toy in one of the caches I have found so far (only one little package of ketchup...). So I suppose, there is still hope?
  8. Sorry if I am being stupid - but where is the connection between McDonald's toys and the end of Geocaching...? I don't get it
  9. I am really addicted to the stories of Harry Potter, so when I started caching I was delighted to hear, that non-caching people are called Muggels. Because I think it is a great feeling to call someone a Muggle. Then you get the impression that you do something really secret or even magical. I didn't know, that the word existed before Harry Potter. And now don't dare to call me childish
  10. I am so jealous of you "Americans" We have to drive a long long time to find a decent number of caches a day. And we have to hike ONE mountain (takes usually one day in our area) to find ONE cache. But I like finding loads of caches in a short time and I would LOVE to go on a power trail...
  11. I try to find the nearest caches around my home town. No matter in which order. Of course I try to have FTFs, but I do not always jump up if a new cache gets published. I am relly ill at the moment and I can't go on grand caching tours. But if we plan a daytrip every two weeks, we usually chose the destination according to the amount of caches hidden We do not live near big cities, so we do not have so many caches around us. The next city with loads of caches is Vienna, but I do not really like city-caching. We prefer caching in the woods and on the mountains.
  12. Hi to everyone, I am sure this topic has been discussed before, but I couldn't really find anything in my search and I am really interested in it I am from Austria and we do not have any power trails here (as far as I know). Only cache series. So what exactly is the point of a power trail? Of course: finding as many caches as possible and moving up the rank list and breaking ones records. But isn't Geocaching about hiding a container at a spot which is worth visiting because of the scenery, a sight or a special place you wouldn't know whithout a cache? A power trail sounds like a lot of fun and I would do anything to go on one (I will consider that for my next holiday plans ) - but it sounds like an exhausting stop and go caching tour with a lot of stress as well. Where are power trail caches usually hidden? Anywhere? Or are there any regulations? And whose idea was it? Best regards from Austria, Fjordi
  13. Hi, I just wanted to ask, if there is a button where I can see all the topics I have answered to? There are so many new topic each day and I simply can not find and remember all those where I have posted an answer Best regards
  14. Ok, thanks for your advice! I will ask my locals reviewer what he thinks about it. It is kind of "emotional" for me, because after I started caching in Croatia in 2009 this was the place where I wanted to hide our first cache - and there had already been one So it became our first found in our area. And it is such a nice place. That's why I want the cache to be in a good shape May I just ask you: what is a "wayward owner"? My English is not that good...
  15. In may area there is a cache, which is not maintained, because the owners are not active anymore. I am currently trying to contact them, because I want to adopt it. But if they don't answer, I will take over maintenance (add a new logbook + new cache container) and put it simply on my watchlist. In the end it doesn't really matter, if my name's on the listing or not. It is more important to keep the cache in good shape.
  16. Ok, then I forget about the "maybe"
  17. We started caching in Croatia last year, because a friend of mine was already addicted and took us with her to show us the whole thing and not just explain it. When we got home to Austria again, I checked the website to see if there were any caches in our area. It were only a few and we found it. But now it exploded as well. About 100 caches appeared within 11 months in the capital city of Lower Austria. In Vienna it might be about 1000 caches. We live in a rather rural area and we only have caches at really amazing spots in the woods and on the mountain tops. Mostly you have to climb one mountain to find one cache. That's why those caches aren't found very often, because the "modern" cacher wants to find at least 15 caches a day to get numbers up. That's sad... Of course I try to find as many caches as possible when I visit another city, but for me it is greater fun to hike through the nature and find a well hidden and big plastic box at an amazing place. All those nanos and micros in the cities or on motorways are a bit boring... Most of my friends and colleagues know what I am doing in my free time and they are interested and ask me about it, but they won't start searching themselves. I think that the "real" cacher will stay with this hobby and will have fun over the years. And if there are any "dump" caches, you can report it to a reviewer. I have already found some caches I didn't like at all, because they were directly next to the motorway in the bushes were some people drop their waste. I reported those caches and also told the owner, that this space is awful, dirty and disgusting. But I don't think that it can get too popular.
  18. Well I suppose, that language is the main problem. I am rather good at English and I do not have any problems with filling in the online form when creating a new cache. For example I spent a lot of time with the HTML codes because I didn't know anything about it. But I suppose there are many cachers around the world (from the non English speaking countries) who get stuck in the process because of the language problem.
  19. I think it is great that you try to improve the whole process! But I hid my first caches after about 3 months of caching and I never had any problems to get them published. And I am no genious concerning computers, HTML and so on. Apart from that you can contact your local reviewer at any time and they will always help you. At least that's how it works in Austria.
  20. I just logged my own event-cache some weeks ago, because when you log an event, you attended it and that's what I did. But I would never ever log my own caches as a find. That seems strange to me.
  21. Sometimes we do not take our GPS with us, if we know the area where the cache is hidden and if the hint is rather obvious. But in our area there is a guy who doesn't own a GPS either and he has more than 300 finds
  22. We use the Garmin etrex h - it is the cheapest GPS device in Austria. But I think I will buy a GPS with a map in the near future
  23. Medulin (Croatia) And some of the cache locations of the "Lord of the Rings" tour we placed in the mountains around our home
