Cache Under Snow, Don’t Stub Your Toe!
One of the Texas Vikings replied to Iowa Tom's topic in General geocaching topics
Wow !!!! What is that white stuff on the ground ????? In Houston we have humidity, but then, you don't have to shovel humidity ! -
I bought a set of these and keep them in the car, while geocaching. If I am going to be doing any early morning dew laden caching, or bush wacking thru the brambles, I slide them on. $14.99.. too... Cabela's Frosty Morning Chaps.

The Best Way To Camo
One of the Texas Vikings replied to altosaxplayer's topic in General geocaching topics
This is a tube, but I do the same to my ammo boxes. Dark green rustoelum (or in this case, the Krylon paint for plastics) then glue camo burlap on top and "rag" it a little, to break up the out line... -

I find that when I am in a crowd, if I wear my aluminum foil hat and mutter under my breath, "there's one, there's another !" no one asks me Actually, I keep it out and if someone asks, I tell them, if not, let them stare... I'm having fun !

I have a set of shelves in my living room and everything I have ever gotten out of a cache (except TB's of course) is sitting on it... When people come to visit they ask about it... Makes for good memories....

I would think that appropriate way to handle this is to take the young man aside; explain the benefits of geocaching and the great outdoors; explain about the property of others and why it is important; Then hit him in the head with an ammo can !

Time Between Joining And Finding First Cache
One of the Texas Vikings replied to GPSOkie's topic in General geocaching topics
Sorry to hear that, just started flying ultralights myself - very addicting (and cold!) Any chance of flying again at all? No, I don't think so... At age 59, I was diagnosed with a form of MS. It not only affects my feet, but my balance as well. Dr. said, get rid of the PPG and get a boat... But, it sure is fun to look down between your knees from 2,800 feet ! -
I think I disagree. I can see where a church parking lot, would be a 1/1, but because of a deeper trench down the middle to let water run off, would not be wheelchair accessible, or maybe parking bumpers. You would not want someone in a wheelchair going to this location to fetch a cache, because it is a 1/1 and then finding out it was not available to them because of a series of parking bumpers, which an ambulatory person could walk over and not think about it. So a 1/1 may be wheelchair accessible, but it also may not. Why rate an open parking lot as described 1.5/1 for walking cachers. ? "An elephant may have fleas, but a flea cannot have elephants" A 1/1 may be wheelchair accessibile, but it does not have to be, therefore a wheelchair accessibile is a 1/1, but a 1/1 is not "automatically" wheelchair accessibile. Besides, if you are not wheelchair bound, how would you know ? Just my .02 cents

Time Between Joining And Finding First Cache
One of the Texas Vikings replied to GPSOkie's topic in General geocaching topics
Joined May 29, 2004...found my first cache June 10, 2004. Funny, I bought a GPSr (Vista) for flying a PPG and on reading on the web about it, someone mentioned "geocaching" I wondered what it was and further researched it. I haven't been the same since. Unfortunately, I had to sell the PPG because of medical reasons, after wanting to fly an ultralight for about 50 years. Now, I'm earthbound, but I did get to fly some, about 50 hours..... I have since introduced geocaching to my whole family, 3-4 people at work, a couple of people I have met in parks, etc.... -
Pictures - Cool Cache Containers (CCC's)
One of the Texas Vikings replied to AmishHacker's topic in General geocaching topics
Bought a cheap tool set ($5.00) at Walmart. Threw the tools in the junk drawer, hot glued the bottom on, then added a angle with a hole for the aircraft cable. Sprayed it with Krylon plastic paint, then hot glued camo burlap in it... Air tight and water proof ! ready to be dropped. Tube is 2" x 10" Rick -

Cache Containers – Anyone Make Your Own?
One of the Texas Vikings replied to Iowa Tom's topic in General geocaching topics
Here is how I did my latest one. With a "junk" tool kit from Walmart. But the real thing I was after was the tube. Of course, I can always use extra screw drivers around the house. 1.throw the tools in my junk drawer. 2.glue on a hole support to hold the aircraft cable and then spray with plastic krylon paint, dark green 3.glue on camo burlap from walmart 4.find the right area, wrap the thin cable around a tree and you have a cache. I am looking into buying more of these tubes. 2" x 10" about $1.30 and air tight and water proof... -
Geocaching Vest
One of the Texas Vikings replied to BubbleHeadJeeper's topic in General geocaching topics
I went cheaper and got a fishing vest. All kinds of pockets .Plus it has a large pocket in the back, to put my camel bak in, with ice in it to keep me cool. My partners laugh and hum the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" theme, everytime we go out. But, I do like the vest, keep all my gear in it. Grab my staff, my hat and vest and I'm ready go (but no whip...) -
Except the woman, who had her three year old on the median of the highway, with her and a sign wanting good people to help.. She was making $250. a day, tax free !!!! God helps those who help themselves, like El Diablo did. You did the right thing with the cache

One of the Texas Vikings replied to Milbank's topic in General geocaching topics

Geocaching, Hunters And Safety Vests
One of the Texas Vikings replied to earthshaker's topic in General geocaching topics
Yes, but a "Slob Geocacher" is not likely to kill anyone with his GPSr I worry about the "Bozo" on his first hunting trip, with a doe permit and a .44magnum, ready to shoot anything that moved ! Last year I took my ex-wife, gave her a fur coat and Rudolph hat and everything. Anyway, I confine my walks in the woods this time of year to woods in the city. -
Anyone know how I can get in touch with "AmishHacker" he has had my TB since May, that's 5 months. I would like him to mail it to me... Thanks.... rickgudnason@earthlink.net

One of the Texas Vikings replied to Old Bill's topic in General geocaching topics
Here is what I did on my first one: OIL ! All of the answers are on the internet, but does require some searching. Also, if I found a different numberic number (ie; 1901 or 1902) I dropped it and chose something else.... Rick -
