  1. Never thought I'd see SWIM on a geocaching forum!
  2. Thank you for the heads-up. I suppose I assumed that no company would put noxious weeds into their mixes. Guess I'm wrong! I'll make sure to read my packets more carefully before I go all Johnny Appleseed again.
  3. I've always wanted to combine my public arts with geocaching but a good deal of it falls under vandalism, so a big no go on most of what I do. But I did find one that seems to fit in with caching and I'm playing with this summer. I do Yarn Bombing. Which according to my local bi-law guy, is ok because it is easily removable and does not fall under what most municipalities consider 'graffiti' So I've started attaching a 'Discover Me' tag with a Trackable number on it. I haven't put many out yet but the solitary discoverer of my random arts, really seemed to like it. I do love the gardening idea. I've been known to carry packs of wild-flower seed to spread about. I've also been eager to try 'Green' graffiti with using moss on walls.
  4. Really, the whole "hate in your heart" and 'whoa my drama meter' wasn't negative? And the calling each other snobs? Ok..I guess that's adult nice behavior.
  5. I think this thread is a great example of how it's not the kids that 'cause the fusses on this forum. Bring on the kids. One of their main functions is to teach adults patience and gentleness.
  6. Sith-lock Holmes. Sith, as in Star Wars Lock, as in dreadlocks Holmes to round off the Sherlock persona It's important to read it carefully. It can be fiddled around with to come up with another name that isn't family friendly, yet describes my caching style perfectly.
  7. Conga-rats! That sounded like a very fun trip. I'd love to do something like this.
  8. I agree. This thread is a very interesting social study.
  9. +1 There are very few areas that I will not go and very few injuries that I am not willing to risk, but caching on someone's front yard always feels a little too invasive for me. I've never felt more anxious caching as I did with someone's yard cache. We left because the uncomfortable was too much to handle.
  10. This thread has made me envious. I cannot wait till we can move back to Calgary.
  11. I'd say, if you can't at least make it to the cache for 'post winter inspection', then don't do it. Maybe give a shout out to some of the Red Deer caching crew and see if someone closer by would help you with the check-ups.
  12. I have some KSO's. I enjoy barefooting but some urban places are a little too dubious to do so; the KSO's to the rescue! Though I like to hike bare or KSOed, if I'm caching I usually use my boots, so I'm prepared for anything.
  13. He did the illegal advertisement he meant to and left. That's exactly what it sounded like to me too. Spam with a troll edge to distract you from it's true nature. No clicky from me, clever spammer!
  14. +1 It's creepy. I think someone did that to me with my last post. Though was hard to tell because the assumption they jumped to was so wrong that it made little sense.
  15. Does anyone else chuckle when they read 'snowplow' and 'Nevada' in the same sentence?
  16. I started off caching by myself. After a few months, I finally suckered my husband in to join me. Now I rarely go out without my Watson.
  17. I had intended to go after this record last year, but my work schedule made me miss last year's fling.
  18. I agree. No costumes for me. No telling tall tales about what I'm doing. All it takes is one suspicious person in the area to call the police and suddenly I'm in a world of hurt. No geocache is worth that to me. Rather just be straight up and honest about what I'm doing and not be sneaking around. I'm with these folk. A confident manner and an honest explanation do way better than stealth for me. I have made choices in my life regarding physical decoration that make me easily profiled as 'suspicious'. Acting stealthy: a stranger would only see a stereotype. Acting open, bold and friendly: strangers will see less to worry about.
  19. Just as a suggestion, if you'd like to write more about the cache but not spoil it for others, you can incrypt your log. As for the topic...I just hate the semantics games when it really seems like all that's needed is common sense. But I suppose common sense is YMMV and that's the problem.
  20. Not turn turn this into the typical semantic argument of guideline vs rule... But if there is enough leeway to allow for an exception to be possible, I think this cache would certainly qualify. I will also echo the 'why' of others. Just don't get it. It seems like it would take more than 'rules is rules' to do this to such a neat and very out of the way virt.
  21. When I was in Calgary the NE was pretty sparse. Often thought of as one of the 'crime areas'...but Calgary wouldn't know a real 'bad part of town' if it bit them on their conservative posteriors. Before leaving C-town, NE placements did start to pick up as folk recognized that a)NE isn't that bad b)the muggle rate wasn't different than any other part of the city c)the rest of the city is pretty full I love looking at the Detroit map. I got some friends in the D and have a twisted desire to do a 5/5 in the core. Kevlar and Heat as special tools.
  22. A for sure. B sounds reasonable. Anything else and I would probably make a point of not favouriting that cache.
