  1. My newbie friend got a Magellan Triton 500 and when we get less than .1 miles from a cache, it displays the distance of 0. How can that be corrected? Right now when he gets close to a cache, he switches over to the map screen or he navigates by coordinates (yuk!) Thanks for any help!
  2. It's a good start, but this app obviously needs a lot of work. I hope the addition of filtering is a top priority. Filtering will make this app much more useful. I too would love to know when the first update will be available. It's frustrating to have this app, seeing all of its potential, and having to wait to really be able to use it for much. Glad you released it though, since it'll be fun to watch it develop.
  3. I would say the Garmin 60Cx or the Garmin 76Cx. They're almost identical as far as function goes. I have a 60Csx and Carol has the 76Cx. I don't like the electronic compass and always have it turned off. It's personal preferance, but I'd save a little $$ and get a Cx. The reception on these is FAR superior to any other unit that I'm familiar with, and that makes these the only possible choices for us. The reception on Carol's 76Cx actually seems to be a little better than my 60Csx.
  4. It is set up as a geocache. It looks like there's simply a difference between the 60cs and 60csx. The 60cs goes to the compass page no matter what you have "Guidance Method" set to. The 60csx goes to the compass page ONLY if "Guidance Method" is set to "Off Road". I wish Garmin would add an option so we could change that.
  5. Yes, absolutely sure. I'm choosing a geocache with a closed chest, I tried to insert screenshots of the page sequence, but the message hasn't posted yet. Did I do something wrong, or does that take a while? Found/Note/Stop do appear on the navigation screen when I go to it.
  6. That's not correct, at least not in GeoRon's case and my own. I know he has the compass on all the time, and I just tried what you suggested. It still goes to the map page.
  7. I have it set to "Prompted", and I have the electronic compass turned off on both units. I recently started using custom icons, but I use them on both units, and that doesn't have an effect on my problem. I just tried changing a symbol to a closed treasure chest, and it still goes to the map page. Thanks to the other poster for the suggestion about adding the pointer field to the map page, but that's not going to work out for me. This isn't a huge deal, but I'd sure like to have it go to the compass page if that's possible.
  8. Yep, any old Palm will do. We bought a Tungsten last year with the idea that we'd use for other things, but we never have. Remember, pda's arent designed for rugged handling, so you may well break it out there. That's another reason to keep it cheap.
  9. That's exactly what I've been thinking, but I'd really like to get it changed if it's possible. Thanks for looking.
  10. I agree that the 60csx has much better reception than the other units. I wouldn't consider any other unit if I could afford the 60csx. ...Acutally I would consider another. I'd just as soon have the 60cx, since I almost always have the electronic compass turned off and never use the altimeter. It's a little cheaper, and performs just as well. The electronic compass has never worked well for me on the 60cs or the 60csx.
  11. My 60cs goes to the compass page after I select a waypoint to navigate to. My 60csx goes to the map page, whether I choose off road or not. How can I change it to go to the compass page? Thanks!
  12. We'll be going up to Milwaukee where I hope to find 50 caches on 50th birthday, which is September 18th. I'd like to get a head start if possible by doing at least a few caches right after midnight. Anybody know of any I should look at? Thanks! John
  13. I'm probably going to get a 60cx now because of the rebate. I have a 60 cs and a 72 now. I like both units, and my only real (though fairly minor) complaint with the 72 is the button placement. If it wasn't for that, I might consider the 76cx. One other thing though... I've seen my friend's 60cx in action, and the reception on this thing is absolutely outstanding. He can get a lock on several sats inside his house. Can the 76cx compete with that? I always felt that my 72 had slightly less than average reception. BTW, is the compas in the 60csx the same as the one in the 60 cs?
  14. I'm a new CacheMate user and I'm wondering why I'm only seeing 1 log per cache in cachemate. I have GSAK set to "No Limit" for the number of logs to export. Can I change a setting to get the 4 most recent logs? I've registered both programs. (They're both great deals!!) Thanks!
  15. Would it be possible to make it so we could delete selected PQs in a batch? It's not a big deal, but it would be a nice feature. Thanks!
  16. We'll be spending 2 1/2 days in the St. Louis area doing little more than caching. What are some local geocaching highlights? We like to be taken to unusual and/or scenic areas. Historic stuff is great too! Thanks!!
  17. Oops! It's been broken so long I didn't bother to try it. Sorry, and thanks for looking.
  18. Too bad the search function is still broken, or I wouldn't have to ask this... I saw a message a while back about cheap ammo boxes at a surplus store in, I think, Havana, IL. We'll be down that way this weekend, and I wanted to be sure I was remembering correctly. Anybody have the name of this place? Thanks! John
  19. I would be willing to do that, but only in the summer months.
  20. What about a cache on my keyring. You'd have to ask me to log it when you are with me. Would that get approved?
  21. Hi, I got the new receiver for Christmas, and I KNEW I shouldn't take it out before I had the screen protector, but I did it anyway. Well, now I have a nice little nick in the screen cover. It doesn't affect the performance of the unit, but it does bother me a little. Does anybody have experience with Garmin repairs? How long is the turnaround, and how much do you think it would cost to have the screen cover replaced? Thanks, Stupid Stupid Stupid
  22. Hi, All of a sudden, I can't get the map links to work on geocaching pages. Actually, I think the problem is with links that are supposed to open a new browser. Nothing happens. Everything's fine on my laptop. I have Windows' popup blocker turned off. Even when it's on though, I do have it set to allow popups from gc.com. I haven't intentionally changed any settings for quite a while. Even when I right click on a link and choose "copy shortcut" then paste it in the address field, the browser wont go to it. How can I fix this? Thanks! John ARRRRGH! The title should say "NOT working for me!"
  23. I'll bet it's the final stage of a multi or a puzzle cache. EDIT -- OOPS! I posted this before I read all of the other posts.
