I founfd this post after I just bought my Venture CX. I went out yesterday to try my first couple caches and I was upset at how far away I was. I thought maybe it was me being new to this. I was 100 + ft away? I just loaded the new 2.60 firmware, I hope this helps or I'm going to be disapointed.

I just ordered a Venture cx for $148 (new) online so I'm going to give it a shot. It's my first GPS and I decided to spend the extra $30-$40 towards the color screen and expandable memory in case I really enjoy geocaching!

Received mine in the mail today. Looks like the real thing. It in a sealed plastic package...

I just purchased a 1GB SD micro card from them. It's in the mail, I'll let you know what I receive. I'm assuming it's going to come in the original package unopened.

Hi, I'm, interested in getting into the geocaching hobby. I'm looking at Garmin units. It seems most say the eTrex Legend is a good entry level model for this with it's 8MB of memory. I can get a new one for $119. I also see the eTrex venture CX and I can get a new one or $148 (after rebate). My question - Why are there rebates on the new Venture? Is it a bad design of some sort? I also see that it comes with exandable memory; does this mean I have to buy a SD card to download anything? With the miminal price differnece is it worth it or should I stick to the Legend and it's built in 8MB? Opinons welcome. Thanks!
