  1. Thanks. After several attempts, I got a cartridge to download to the app. Now it freezes, but I suspect that that is an app problem and not Groundspeak's.
  2. Wherigo doesn't seem to be Android friendly, but it may just be that I'm not tech savvy. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ (which updated last night) and can't find Wherigo in the Google Play store. Instead, I found and downloaded WhereYouGo, which appears to be the only similar thing available (but it's not a Groundspeak product). There appears to be no option to log in on WhereYouGo, though. I went to download a cartridge from my phone and my phone gave me the option to open it with WhereYouGo, but I got an error message when I used that option. When I tried to use Chrome browser to download, I had to choose a device, and mine is not listed. I have a Garmin eTrex, but that's not compatible either. Can I use Wherigo with my phone? Or am I out of luck?
  3. I've been getting the 500 error periodically for a few days. I logged several caches on Saturday (2/29) and one log submission resulted in an error message. I clicked the back button and the log was posted properly. I'll also click on a cache from one of my lists and sometimes get an error. If I click the back button and then the cache link again, I'm taken to the cache page.
  4. I came here to post about the same or a similar issue and found this thread. Yesterday, I logged 7 finds from the app. All showed up as smileys on the app. I noticed later in the day, on the website, that the final cache was not showing with a smiley. I went to the app, and the map showed a smiley, but the cache page did not show a smiley nor did it show my log. While it's possible the CO deleted my log, I believe it to be unlikely in this case. I logged the cache again from the website, and it is still showing as found. It might be worth mentioning that when I logged the final cache the first time, I had a weak signal. However, it did originally show as posted, so I don't know if that really explains it.
  5. I thought it was just me. I started getting this glitch sometime in February, after the February 2 souvenir. I was surprised to see that this thread started in January of 2019. I have the app installed on 3 Android devices. I get the notification on all of them. As others here have said, I can clear it temporarily by clicking on my souvenir page, but it comes back within the hour. Closing and force stopping the app do no good. It looks as if the glitch is here to stay, at least for now. It's not hurting anything, at least.
  6. My car is a trackable. It's a micro, as cars go, but still....
  7. I have returned to caches to drop off TB's. I just write a note saying "TB drop." I've seen that others have done the same thing. I would imagine it's okay to pick one up instead. You could write in your note "TB retrieval" (if picking one up) or "TB exchange" (if dropping one off and picking up another).
  8. I paint rocks on occasion. It is a huge thing in some areas to leave painted rocks to be found, but I don't know if it's bigger than geocaching. There is some overlap, though. I use small, flattish rocks that fit in my hand and usually just put words on them, such as "peace" and "you rock." Some people use larger rocks and get quite creative with scenes. Some people are much more talented than I am. I've left a few of my painted rocks in caches, though I've found so many micros that I forget about the rocks when I finally find a regular cache. Also, rocks get rather heavy to carry around, if I carry too many. I get my rocks either from near a river or I'll purchase them. Some public areas will have signs saying not to pick up rocks, so I leave those rocks alone.
  9. There are several cache series around here that are like you describe. There are traditional caches that can stand alone or the player can grab a clue to help solve a mystery cache. The ones I've seen have either a special card that's the game piece or with some information in the lid of the traditional caches.
  10. I started over and was able to successfully run a PQ for caches in a 50 mile radius of home. The email came instantly. Thanks for your help!
  11. There's nothing there. Clearly, I did something wrong. From that link you posted, I found step by step instructions and tips on constructing PQs here: https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=7&pgid=118
  12. I think it did. I can't find the page using my browser's history, so I can't be 100% sure.
  13. Hmmmm...good question. I gave it a name (I neglected this on my first attempt, and it bounced back to me). I didn't check a day, but I did check "run this query once and then delete it" (I don't see the point of running it every day forever). My email and format were already set to what I wanted. Then I clicked "submit information," which I assumed ran the PQ. Then I got a page saying I could download the file with a link, so I used that link (that link was a .loc file, though).
  14. I just found a better way! In my browser, I went to My Lists and selected the 3 dots after the list I wanted to send to my Garmin. There's an option "Send to Garmin" (which I swear wasn't there before, but maybe I'm confused and was looking at the app before). Anyway, after clicking that option, it opened Garmin Express on my laptop, and when I connected my Garmin to my laptop, it all transferred to my Garmin with a few more clicks (next time, I'll try to remember to write down what I did, so I can help others). It showed up on my device in the Geocaching folder with all the cache names intact. Woo hoo!!!! This bypasses PQs. (Are we really limited to 1000 PQs in our lifetime?)
  15. How long does it take for the email to come through? It has been over an hour and still no email. I know it's the correct email address.
  16. I think I've figured out how, but I'm having other problems unrelated to this topic.
  17. I'm having a problem with pocket queries. I have a Garmin, and I believe it takes .gpx files. I leave the .gpx selected when I submit my query. When I download the resulting file, it is consistently a .loc file, and, assuming I have transferred the file correctly to my device, my device can't read the file. The first time it happened, I thought it was my error. I am now positive that it is not. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a way to get around it?
  18. I have a Garmin eTrex 30x. This is my first GPS device (other than my phone), and I'm attempting to transfer .gpx files from my laptop to my Garmin. I have the Garmin hooked up to my laptop. I have a pocket query saved on my laptop. However, my laptop wanted me to download some other program to read the .gpx files. I have the Garmin program open, but I don't see any folders to transfer anything to. Also, the pocket query file has vanished to someplace inaccessible on my laptop. I have the laptop's downloads folder open, and that file isn't even listed as the most recent file downloaded. This site has a page that tells me what programs I can use on a PC, but absolutely nothing about step by step instructions on how to get coordinates to a GPS device. A Google search gives me instructions from 2017, but those seem obsolete, because, apparently, at one time, one could transfer files directly from this site to a GPS device. Does anyone have a current tutorial? I'm assuming (rightly or wrongly) that the process should be the same for my device as it is for the original poster's device.
  19. I was under the impression the CO was supposed to reply to let us know we successfully completed the challenge. However, for the VC I found, I have never received a reply (it has been about 6 months, so I don't think I'll hear anything now). I went searching here in the discussion forums to find out whether it's appropriate to log the find anyway, and found that I can log before receiving a reply. I did receive responses saying that I had satisfied the requirements for the EC's that I have found. I do think a quick reply even to say "yes" or "sorry, try again" would be sufficient.
  20. Ah, there it is! I was surprised to see the USA souvenir. It doesn't show up on my app. It appears my souvenirs show up in alphabetical order on the website and in chronological order on my app, when they show up at all on my app.
  21. I AM on an Android! I've logged out and back in several times and looked on my app and browser. Since I'm working an overnight (ugh!), I'll check it out on my laptop when I finally get home.
  22. There is supposed to be a souvenir for finding a cache or attending an event on the 31st and another one for the 1st. I found a cache on the 31st and the souvenir hasn't shown up yet. I don't know how to go about getting this fixed. (It's still the 31st here, so I don't know if I'll get one if I find a cache tomorrow.)
  23. I found 2 logs I could not sign because the logs were so wet that the paper was pulp. I posted this and then submitted photos to show what I found. I always have at least one pen in my purse (usually I have in excess of 5), because I can never find one at work when I need one (and I need one at work several times a day). They come in handy when I geocache on a whim. So I do sign most logs to prove I was actually there. But as others have said, there are other ways to prove that you were there, if signing is not possible for some reason.
  24. Perfect! I figure P&G's would be appropriate, at least.
  25. @kunarionI, for one, find your explanation here and in another thread most helpful. I placed a trackable on my car and moved it to my collection. But after reading your posts here wonder if I could just make it non-collectable. It's not like someone's going to grab the actual car (or if anyone does, he's probably not a geocacher). It would be tedious to log it into a visit at every cache (and would it even be believable in caches in the middle of the woods?), but I might like to log now and then. If I find I have a stalker, I can always deactivate the TB (and call the police). I find, in general, geocachers are a friendly bunch.
