  1. Forgive me if this topic has been posed elsewhere before but I was unable to locate a similar thread. I’m curious why the Knowledge Book (https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=51&pgid=295) is so narrowly focused on the science of geology when there are other Earth Sciences available. I live in Rhode Island (“The Ocean State”) and there are many topics that would be great for Earth Caches (i.e. bogs, marshes, etc.) but the current guidelines do not allow them because they are not specifically geology related. Since our Earth is made up and exists of far more than just geologic sciences, I believe the opportunity to learn more of the Earth through Earth Caches is being missed. It appears there are many other earth sciences that can be included but it is currently narrowed to just geology which leaves a lot of other “earth” elements unable to be published, even though they can be as equally educational. There are only so many topics on geology that can be done for our smallest state in the U.S. and I see them repeated over and over again across the state. So, why just Geology and will the Knowledge Book eventually evolve to include other earth sciences?
  2. Thank you on4bam.. I actually just realized by downloading garmin express, I am able to successfully transfer a list to my gps.. prior to downloading garmin express I tried this method but the web page would not open due to macOS not knowing how to open it.. makes sense now.. glad i have somewhat of a solution! So, does this mean (which i think is mentioned above) that the 'send to gps' feature on geocaching.com will not work, Unless you use an outdated unsecure browser as you mention about? Thanks and happy caching!
  3. i may be having the same issues as people above but i am not sure?? I am using safari v. 11.0.2 and just updated my garmin etrex 20 to version 4.60 to ensure it was up to date. I go to "send to gps" and the communicator plug in pops up, but it says Garmin Communicator NOT detected and does not see my Etrex. I see my garmin in 'finder'. In the communicator plug in I click on "download and install now" and it brings me to the garmin web page where it says you have garmin communicator plug in v 4.2.0.0 and it lists devices detected as my etrex... Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this??
  4. Just last month I was right near where the bombs went off.. I found two caches within 500 ft of where the bombs went off.. GC2W302 which is right off of Boylston and I actually grabbed (GC1GQZ1) which is literally right outside Old South Church on Boylston under a railing leading into the entrance which can definitely be seen as suspicious when someone replaces the hide a key there.. makes you think twice about hiding/finding caches in the city.. definitely something to be aware about.. Now that being said, there are other options for urban caching.. there are 2 Wherigo caches in boston common and there was an earthcache right at Old South Church. Now, I don't think urban caching will be eliminated entirely, but there definitely is a new wave of caution going through at least me while I am urban caching.
  5. There is a geocache in my hometown that is placed in the cemetery of a local legend.. Mercy Brown. Legend has it she was said to be a vampire, her body was dug up a few months after she died and her organs supposedly still had blood in them.. I believe her organs were then burned but the cemetery is supposedly haunted. Odd things are said to occur here, such as orbs showing up in pictures, uneasy feelings while in the cemetery, and several people have reported their cars not starting. If you are interested in hearing more about the story, just google her name, Mercy Brown. The GC code for the geocache placed there is GC3QERY
  6. Made this topic to hear stories from geocachers.. have you ever felt uneasy at a cache site? Ever been to a geocache site and had any odd occurrences? Ever been to a known haunted geocache site and have anything weird happen?? Ever taken a picture of a cache site and ended up with pictures containing "orbs"?? Interested in hearing some stories.. if any Post away!
  7. I am going on a family trip to Maui and the Big island of Hawai'i and was looking for recommendations for good caches. I am looking for neat spots, beautiful scenery, tunnels to explore, etc. I have found earthcaches of black/red sand beaches on Maui, and we do plan to see the sunrise on top of Haleakala and do the 5 waterfall cache also on Maui. For Hawai'i we plan to go to the Volcano National Park, but does anyone have any other ideas or places to go/cache on these two islands? Many thanks!!!
  8. Does anyone know of any underwater geocaches on the Island of Hawai'i or on Maui? I am specifically looking for geocaches accessible by snorkeling, not diving or using scuba gear. I have found archived underwater geocaches but no active ones... Hope someone can help.
  9. I'm looking for more of a smaller sand bar, where waves from opposite sides come together. Here is a video I found showing the interaction I am thinking of :
  10. Hi All, I am trying to create an Earthcache for a beach area. I have been searching the internet for a certain scientific name for when it is low tide, a sand bar is formed, and waves coming from the opposite sides of the sand bar combine and hit each other. I am trying to create a question based around this action that occurs, but so far the only information I have found is about breaking waves (spilling, plunging, and surging). Does anyone know what this phenomenon is called? Or an idea of a question I could ask around it? Any ideas would be appreciated and helpful, Thank you!
  11. Looking for RHODE ISLAND GEOCOINS: Looking for: 2008 Rhode Island Quahog geocoin. And if there is a 2007 Rhode Island geocoin I am looking for that one also.
  12. I have also seen lots of rusted cars in heavily wooded areas and have always wondered how the heck they got out there.. I have also seen fridges, a rusted wagon, mailbox scarecrows, a bike hanging from a tree (pretty good condition), a wheel chair, a guy eating pizza and smoking weed, another creepy guy just sitting on a rock when we were leaving that same wooded area.. didnt say anything as we walked by.. All of the things I listed were in wooded areas. Some of the stories above are pretty creepy/interesting ,Thanks for sharing
  13. I think there is a way to do it. Check out this geocache GC1QFGR located in Central Park, NYC, it tweets everytime someone logs the cache, so SOMEHOW, you can probably tweet whenever you find a cache. Hope this helps.
