  1. "Almost month end" April Update As April draws to a close some bugs seem to be bulleting through the country while others have been dealt a horrible blow that may end friendships, coffee and beer, hopefully not lives (of the owners that is). Please once again will all race bug owners click update milage on their bug's page so that I can have accurate results to work off at the end of the month. Please do this as close to the end of the month since I work off the geocaching bug page and do not question the numbers (unless they are totally messed). Pos Points TB 01 4358 - Baiesukkel 02 4137 - Mickey Racer 03 3926 - Frustrated 4x4 04 3039 - P-38 05 2957 - Die Rooi Gevaar 06 2870 - Lazer Razer 07 2484 - James' leaping lizard 08 2445 - Half Bait 09 2206 - TF Are we there yet? 10 2163 - TB Cache Surfin' 11 2101 - Rupert Rex 12 1365 - Message in a bottle 13 1062 - Terri Tiger 14 1022 - Bolivian Bob 15 0876 - Little Penguin 16 0859 - Strandloper 17 0850 - Stormer's Racing Bike 18 0723 - Noddy on a mission [Chopped] 0631 - Mpumalanga Cache Adventures [MIA] 0603 - Behind the Mask Noddy on a mission, Strandlooper and Little Penguin Farmer need to get a move on and it is more than likely that one of these bugs is going to loose their head.
  2. Streak it is not so much a requirements as a suggestion. All of us have fallen to to the same trap that you are in “wanting to contribute to the sport and get out there to start placing". But with hindsight we have all noticed that our first caches all well.... kinda... sucked... Our first cache has been moved/ replaced 3 times since its placement and has finally found a stable site. Give the page a read and you will see its dodgy past With regards to your question: We found this quite simple: If you would like to go to the spot then others should. If it is going to be a mission for you to go back there/ it isnt safe/ clean/ enjoyable then others wont enjoy it. Hope this helps and that it does happen. P.S. There are many cachers out there that are willing to go caching as a group should this help your to get out into the wild and find some caches
  3. Hey Triptrick, Seems that you are quite (um how to put to politely? well...) sick and LeonW is quickly following in your shadow To help you remove all sleep from your system I had to quickly check out the SA geocacher rankings and to my surprise I noticed that LeonW is not even listed. (sorry LW, this has been fixed, check your mail). I took a screen shot of some interesting data and can provide you with more if you feel like staying up and pondering over times spent caching and not caching late into the night! Hope you don’t mind that I share some details on the public forum It looks like you are doing quite well, but all I can say is don’t worry about you GAD there are plenty of silent members of the community that have had this affliction for quite some time and have managed to work it into their lives. The second couple to have a Geocache Honeymoon seem to be quite addicted to well… quite the wrong things, but in the land of many caches (MP) one has to cache! Hope that TrackinFind are having a great time and that your embrace your addiction. I remember organising last years Easter holiday to Lois Trichard just so we could place our Travel bug in one of the most remote pitstop caches.
  4. As far as I heard GlobalRat has been down this path and requested it many times! but this is no reason for the rest of us not to try/ revolt
  5. [Removing duplicate entry.]
  6. March Update - end of month! There can be only one! On contestant has gone missing, and one has lost his head. After a hard fight and lots of travelling in Mpumalanga, Mpumalanga Cache Adventures has lost its head. It travelled 331 kilometres, visited 4 caches and crossed 2 provinces. Behind the Mask unfortunately fell foul of muggles who held him down and took head. Our sympathies go out to its owner. The race standings as of 31 March are as follows with the frustrated 4*4 ripping up the road! 01 - 2598 - Frustrated 4x4 02 - 2485 - Baiesukkel 03 - 2363 - Half Bait 04 - 2261 - Mickey Racer 05 - 2142 - Lazer Razer 06 - 1251 - P-38 07 - 981 - James' leaping lizard 08 - 897 - Bolivian Bob 09 - 880 - Message in a bottle 10 - 868 - Die Rooi Gevaar 11 - 860 - Strandloper 12 - 823 - TF Are we there yet? 13 - 815 - Little Penguin Farmer 14 - 740 - TB Cache Surfin' 15 - 725 - Terri Tiger 16 - 718 - Rupert Rex 17 - 673 - Noddy on a mission 18 - 369 - Stormer's Racing Bike Good luck to all. It seems that the Cape bugs have finally been “rescued” and I am sure that we can see a lot more movement in this month of public holidays. ( I appologise for the lateness of this post, but work has been hectic this week and the other organiser is lazy : P )
  7. I would be more worried about the after-effects of the hour. Think of it: as soon as it is over everyone would turn back on their appliances causing a massive load on the power lines. The work "Boom" comes to mind It is not like they turn off the power plants because there is less demand over an hour period: Koeburg may still be churning along unhappily. Middleburg will still be surrounded by smoke. * Please excuse the pessimist in me. *

    Mugger Alert

The problem here is that Geocachers will be/should be reported as well. Imagine having the police rock up will you are climbing around a beached boat looking for a micro.
  9. This is quite sad, since some of the designs on the forum were far better! So much for a community effort.
  10. So is this thing happening? I see that the people of the mountain have got their act together. As much as I don't enjoy cleaning up other people’s filth it would be good to get everyone together, have breakfast and sort out a JHB park. Can anyone think of a small park which is vagrant house free? Does anyone have contacts with park committees?
  11. Now now guys, play nice. I promise I will attend to you emails. Should someone offer me a faster internet at home I will be able to serve your needs and update the site more regularly. Also should a nice Capetonian be willing to help out with adding new cachers/ password stuff I would be greatly appreciative.
  12. Hey TripTrick, Sorry about the delay, but I think I have only ignored one email from you Truthfully, sorry for the delay, our "support staff" has been cut in two and I have no access to my geocaching mail at work. But, you plea for help has been heard and you have been added to the ranking site. Your profile page is here.

Ditto! Go C&C you guys rock!
  14. Confidence Reef 2005/05/28 by QFC Quite a story to tell for this find! It started off with the Reserve being closed for some reason, from 1 May till Sometime in August. Possibly they close during winter. (*just read the logs more thourouly and see that it is closing for winter... woops*). But since we had come all this way to Roodepoort, we decided to make a plan and find this cache. The gates were all locked, so we parked outside a residence that was relatively close (or so we thought) to the cache. After making it over the fence, we went on a small hike to the cache... which took a little while since we didn't follow any path, since there were no paths from where we came. It took us about 20 min to find, for some reason our gps directed us about 10 metres south east from where we finally discovered the treasure. We took the bottle with sand. And left a toy car and a goon (big marble) on the way back we headed straight for a bigger path and climbed over a 2 metre wall... with our friends the "BLACK-JACKS" waiting on the other side. The walk back to where our car was parked was then fairly relaxing, but finding out that the car was no longer there was something totally different. I'm not going to say too much more, but just a warning to all of you: "jumping off a 2 metre wall is dangerous" - oh and also be sure to take all valuables with you. Ok that's all... quite an adventure, a little too much for one day me thinks. This is my third time editing this log entry - just wanted to say to GlobalRat, thanks for the cache! Excellant location!!!
  15. To all race bug owners. Please click the recalculate button on your travelbug's page on next week Friday so that we can have accurate distance for the quickening (head chopping) at the end of the month.
  16. It seems like it is too late for poor Girry, a full conversion is not far off... I have added a tribute to Girry on the GeocachingRanking blog. Please post support here or there!
  17. GO! Little Red Hat person. GO! There is nothing a noose or a hot BBQ can't fix. One can never have enough of them shiny shinies. Don't know about the rest of you but I never had anything against santa. Did you not get a christmas present this year Bats?
  18. To cachers that "own" multiple geocaching profiles: Moving bugs using one profile and then the next, although not stipulated in the rules, will be looked at as foul-play. You have been warned.
  19. Thanks to all that came for the breakfast! It was great to see you all and also to meet some new folks. Will see you again next year!
  20. Im also keen to help out, especially since I will probably need help later in the year in my trip to France goes through.... Let me know if you need any other help.
  21. As far as I can see "CACHE 4 - HES BEEN IN THE NEWS AND WALKS THE LONELY ROAD...." is still available (I think). You guys can pick it up on Saturday after your caching trip to Hout Bay Oh geocacher_coza, they say on their site that the "cache" may be the JHB area as well.
  22. It seems quite easy to find the co-ords on their site as well! They only problem is climbing those mountains...
